Good morning, friends!
How was your weekend? Mine was a mix of rest and relaxation and a little bit of activity, which I suppose is the best of both worlds, especially when it comes to the weekend, right?
On Saturday morning, I woke up feeling kind of blah. I was sore from CrossFit workouts on Thursday and Friday, and my morning sickness had returned in recent days. I felt great during week 15 and early in week 16, but by the time I was mid-way through week 16, I felt horrible again. Long story short, I spent most of Saturday bumming around the house and trying not to boot.
After I ate breakfast on Saturday morning, I did some chores around the house and wrapped Christmas presents while taking frequent breaks on the couch to rest.
As the morning progressed, I eventually fell asleep on the couch and slept until the early afternoon when I heard Mal talking on the phone to our friend Mike, who had just adopted a new puppy and wanted to set up a play date with Murphy to begin socializing her.
At this point, I figured I should get up and get moving since I was still in my PJs and it was almost 2:00 in the afternoon. When Mike arrived with Addie, we all headed out for an āadventure walkāĀ in the woods near our house.
Within minutes of starting out walk, we ran into our neighbor and his dog, so all seven of us explored the woods together.
I’m glad that I decided to join in on the doggie play date because fresh air definitely made me feel better.
I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening sitting on couch and relaxing. I ended up renting The Internship, which was actually pretty entertaining, and then going to bed around 9:00 PM. I was exhausted and felt terrible. Boo.
On Sunday morning, Mal and I joined a couple of CrossFit friends for the Jingle Bell 5K in Somerville, which is (almost) a yearly tradition for Mal and me. (We missed last year’s race.)
Dools, Nate, Mal, and me!
We ended up cutting it pretty close to start time and had just two minutes to line up before the gun went off.
Of course, I was a mess for the first few minutes of the race (setting up my Garmin, messing around with my iPhone, etc.), but I didn’t care since I wasn’t running for time yesterday.
I’ve barely run since the Hat Trick and when I do, it’s so hard for me. I have no lungs. I actually wasn’t even sure if I’d be able to run 3.1 miles without stopping, so I just trucked along and enjoyed the costumes, spectators, and holidays music.
I actually didn’t stop running once during the race and finished in 29:19 (9:26). Slow and steady, baby!
After the race, we all planned to meet at Sally O’Brien’s for a post-race celebration. Mal and I have gone here in the past after races because it’s a little ways from Davis Square, where the race is held, so it doesn’t get very crowded and you can drink free beer for hours. Plus, there’s always really good live music.
Well, I guess I forgot how far away Sally O’Brien’s was from the race finish because I ended up running another 2 miles to get there! I guess it wasn’t a little ways away after all. The effort was worth it thoughāāwe pretty much had the place to ourselves!
Post-race mocktails: Extra spicy Bloody Mary and a Cotton Candy, which was made with seltzer and splash of pineapple juice and Grenadine.
We also ordered food at Sally O’Brien’s. I went with eggs, bacon, home fries, and toast.
We ended up staying at the bar for hours, talking and laughing about who knows what. It was a nice, little Sunday!

Questions of the Day
Have you wrapped your Christmas presents yet? Do you do it all at once or break it up into smaller sessions?
Did you run a holiday road race this year? What’s the best costume you saw?
P.S. A blog about pugs and recipes? Two of my favorite pugs offer their āhelpāĀ in the kitchen: http://www.grubbinpugs.com/

This race basically runs past my apartment! So funny to see my neighborhood on your blog. Wish I’d run too–maybe next year. š
I love holiday themed races and was bummed they didn’t have one near me this year. Glad you were feeling well enough to race on Sunday and enjoy yourself! Merry Christmas and Gleưileg Jól!
I ran an Ugly Sweater Run which was a ton of fun! Someone dressed up as Buddy the Elf. I couldn’t believe how fast they were able to run in that costume!
I’ll be 18 weeks pregnant tomorrow and I also had some sickness/food aversions/no appetite return in my 16th week! I also had a cold so maybe that messed with my system. Either way, I really hope you feel better. <3
Feel free to not answer if this is too personal, but are you and Mal planning to find out the sex of the baby? We find out early next month! š
Oh, bummer that your morning sickness has made a 2nd appearance! I’m glad you were able to get out and enjoy some of the weekend though. Fresh air always makes me feel better too š
I did all of my wrapping on Saturday night – waiting for the big snow storm.
I watched The Internship on Friday night…I found it very funny because I work with MBA students – all who are trying to land an internship.
ugh sorry you didnt feel well again!! puppy playdates are the best! How does Murphy deal with being active for a long period of time? Clementine needs breaks every 5-10 minutes because of her short nose and breathing. I feel so bad having to separate her but its really bad! Have a great day!!
Murphy is like the Energizer Bunny. He just goes and goes and goes… and eventually passes out!
Is Mal rocking just a mustache these days?!
I still have wrapping to finish and I break it up into sections. I love wrapping, so I don’t want it to all be over at once!
Perfect weather for a race there! I can’t stand running when it’s sunny out for some reason… All my wrapping is done – now it’s time to become a slave to the kitchen!
Sorry to hear you’ve been feeling so rough Tina, glad the puppies cheered you up though!
Well done for the 5k, what a fab medal too š
I love themed races, I did one this year but the weather was so bad I could not really dress up! I am all done with wrapping and shopping!
No holiday races, and still haven’t wrapped presents! Right now we’re trying to get the upstairs looking less like a construction project and more like a house before the inlaws arrive. š
Boo, hope your morning sickness goes away soon.
I normally make a day out of wrapping with eggnog and holiday movies, but I split it up into a few sessions this year. Have a happy holiday!
I actually JUST wrapped my presents yesterday, lol. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. Hope you feel better soon!
Great job at the 5K! Slow and steady I’m sure is just what you needed! Hopefully you feel better soon!!
I like to wrap all of mine at once. Although to be honest, I don’t put crazy amount of effort into it since it all ends up in shreds at my house by the tree. If I’m bringing a present somewhere I make it nicer.
Great jobs at the Jingle Bells 5K. Love that race! It was my first race ever.
Sending good vibes so your morning sickness goes away for good soon. I had morning sickness (really all day sickness) with my third baby all pregnancy long (kid you not I threw up the morning she was born – a couple hours before). I threw up all the pregnancy, which made for interesting time and only 18lbs gain (she was 8lbs 4oz so she was never starved). My older two were very patient with me (8 and 5 at the time). I’m so sending good vibes so your morning sickness goes away. I have to say, I always felt better working out (i ran till 32 wks and did a half at 26 wks – granted I was rather slow completing it in just under 3hrs) exercise will make you feel better. And do try the prego pops (the salt in them helps)
I love slow and steady! Congrats on running and finishing a 5k after a day of morning sickness blahs!
We’re not doing Christmas until Saturday so I’ll be wrapping on Christmas day. Nice way to spend and extend Christmas, right? Still want to bake too; I’ve got gingerbread and sugar cookie dough in the fridge and a gingerbread house to put together. I need the extra time!
Ughh I am sorry you’re feeling the morning sickness still. Boo! I had it baddddd until week 16 too, so you’re hopefully done with it! (Sadly it came back around week 32 for me for 5 weeks again). But the end result is SO SO worth it!!
Way to go in doing the 5K. That looks like a fun themed one š
I wish I would have found a fun Holiday run to participate in. I did a turkey trot and it was awesome. Looks like you guys had fun at your run. I am so sorry you are still having morning sickness. If it wasn’t for morning sickness women would probably get pregnant so often the world would be overpopulated. š
I wrapped all my gifts in two sessions. It was nice to listen to some holiday music and wrap all those goodies!
Our little dog Lily is just like Murphy in that she can go for hours! However when she does crash, she does not want to be messed with….kind of like Murphy being lazy in bed š
Yay for all the running and a healthy pregnancy. I want one of those cotton candy drinks! Sounds DELISH! No races here, we missed most of ours. Although I hear there is a polar bear plunge in January in Charleston. Brrrrr!
that is adorable! I love when you’re with a wonderful friend, and the time just slips away!
I wrap my presents as I get them. Monday was the big post office, Fed Ex, UPS day, so they are all wrapped.
I love that Somerville race. In the past the medal has been a bottle opener, which I think is a great idea.
I ran the 12k’s of Christmas in Kirkland and it was very hilly. Most people were in red and green. Their were a few guys in full Santa suits.
Merry Christmas!
I wish I’d done a holiday race! They all look like so much fun!
oh man, sorry the morning sickness is back.. I was horribly sick when pregnant too and one of the few things that helped me was candied ginger… so may wanna give it a try.. greetings from California š
They’re sitting unwrapped on my bedroom floor…always a last minute job! Hope you’re feeling better today and well done on the run!!!
Ick- sorry morning sickness returned! Mine kept slowly getting better and was finally all gone by 18 weeks. Then I looked back and noticed how badly I felt for a long time!
Now at 20 weeks, though, my energy is back and I feel awesome. Hoping you feel the same shortly! š
Feel better Tina. I’m loving all those gifts under the tree. So fun.
Very cute medal! I love Christmas races! So much fun and holiday cheer!
My mom, sister and I were going to walk a Jingle Bell Run tomorrow but it sold out š So I’ll probably go on a short run in the neighborhood instead!
I ran a half marathon at 11 weeks and a 5k at 13 weeks. Now at 23 weeks anytime I attempt running I immediately have to pee! It sucks so bad and is really disheartening. Even in my normal hour long spinning class it’s a miracle if I only have to leave twice for the bathroom
My Christmas presents are all wrapped and ready to go! I usually wrap my presents in smaller groups. Wrapping too many at one time seems too daunting.
I still have quite a few presents to wrap. I tried to wrap them as they came in this year, but eventually I fell behind!
Sorry to hear about the morning sickness! Congrats on the 5K though!
My local Jingle Bell 5k is one of my favorite races. I’m glad you were able to run the whole race!!!
Looks like you all had a great time at the race! I am sorry you are feeling a bit under the weather!
No races here but I did get a run in this morning. It felt great!
I definitely break my wrapping up into smaller sessions because I love it so much. I like to drag it out as long as possible.
@Megan @ Meg Go Run:
lol that’s crazy. Buying gifts is great. Giving them is better. Wrapping is the worst! =P
So, I had commented on your IG when I saw your post saying I had been at the Jingle Bell Run too and didn’t know you had as well (even though you don’t know me from Adam, so that would’ve been awkward! š but now here comes the weird part:
I literally finished the race the exact same time as you – 29:19, 9:26. So crazy!! That means I probs definitely saw you but since I’m so new to your blog I didn’t make the connection. Whoopsies! So glad you enjoyed your weekend š Merry Christmas!
Jen
In case you noticed, which I’m sure you didn’t, but I was the really short girl with the lopsided reindeer ears…which I guess doesn’t separate me from anyone there. Worth a shot! š
I like to wrap all at once because I HATE getting wrapping stuff out more than once! Wait until you have the baby to try and eat all your ribbon and paper. Quinn’s first Christmas is upon is and she loved playing with all the sparkle and crinkle! Sorry to hear about the morning sickness, I didn’t have that but I know what it’s like to want a symptom to fade. I had this weird skin crawling feeling every night during my 2nd and part of my 3rd trimester. It was so hard to fall asleep because it felt like I had fire ants on me in random spots! I guess it’s because Quinn was hitting a nerve. Sucked!!!
i’m moving to somerville in a week! woooo
Sounds like a lot of outdoor/holiday fun š I’ll have to check out The Internship sometime too – I’ve been looking for a good movie to watch!
Hope you’re feeling better for Christmas Day!!!
sorry about the morning sickness, I always envision that being the toughest part of being pregnant! I also think being a running mom is just about the most awesome thing ever.
Hope your Christmas was wonderful
So sorry to hear that you’ve been ill. I have been ill myself too, probably the worse time to be ill haha. Hope you feel better soon!
Happy belated Christmas! Enjoy the new year too!
I think 29:19 is actually pretty good! Well, it would be for me anyway. I have yet to go below 30:00 for a 5k but next year I will! Hope you felt better for Christmas!
I was sick the whole 9 months also my UC symptoms came back. The baby in the end is totally worth it though (: Happy Holidays.
I ran that race with my sister (her first 5K)! Wish we would’ve seen you as we both follow your blog!
