It’s time for another edition of Monday In Meals where I share what I ate throughout the day. I also include in this post some of the supplements that I use on a regular basis. I’ve received a number of questions lately from readers, so I figured sharing them would be helpful to others too. With that, here’s what I ate yesterday + a recap of the supplements that I incorporated into my day!

Carrots 'N' Cake Favorite Supplements

I already mentioned some of these products above, but here are a number of supplements that I used throughout the day/on a regular basis:

Dandy Blend: I love this delicious (caffeine-free) alternative to coffee– both hot and cold. I love drinking it mixed with iced coffee, collagen, and some coconut creamer, which tastes like a slightly sweet dark roast coffee. I also like it mixed with protein powder, especially SFH Churro, and poured over ice as an afternoon pick-me-up (without the caffeine). FYI: Here’s why I’m cutting back on the iced coffee.

Collagen Hydrolysate: Love this stuff because it’s super versatile and has so many health benefits, including to help regulate the body’s metabolism, building connective tissue in hair, skin, and nails. (I’ve heard it can help the appearance of cellulite.) It’s friendly on the gut and digestive system, and it has 12g of protein per serving, so it an easy way to hit your macronutrient goals for the day! 🙂 It’s nearly flavorless and mixes right into hot and cold liquids and foods (like oatmeal, sauces, soup), so you can add it to just about anything! It’s a great alternative to protein powder, too!

Natural Calm: I actually didn’t use this yesterday, but I do drink it on a regular basis. I have the raspberry-lemon flavor and mix it into my water as a way to get some extra magnesium into my diet. Here’s why. I was asked if it makes me sleepy, and it doesn’t usually. It’s pretty diluted in my water bottle, so I guess my sips/small doses throughout the day don’t affect me all that much. I do notice, though, on the days that I consume at least a couple of teaspoons, I’m pretty relaxed before bed and fall asleep without any issues.

Beauty Bursts: Yummy collagen chews! They’re perfect for when you want just a small bite of something sweet. I keep them on my desk for when I need a little boost while I’m working.

SFH Whey Protein: I love this protein powder so much! It’s grass-fed whey, but it’s made from quality ingredients (GMO-free, minimally processed), so it doesn’t mess with my stomach. I also love that the flavors don’t taste fake and blend well, especially when it comes to recipes. Right now, I’m obsessed with the Churro Pure flavor (120 calories, 22 g protein). It’s so darn tasty as a protein shake as well as in recipes. I also love the Vanilla Recovery (80 calories, 16 g protein) for the same reasons, and it’s my go-to for post-workout recovery. Coconut Fuel (130 calories, 20 g protein) is really tasty too, especially in protein ball form!

Natren Healthy Trinity: Even though I’m on Entyvio, I still wanted a good probiotic in my life. I dillydallied for months and never purchased one until I heard Melissa Ramos on a recent Balanced Bites podcast. She was talking about hormones, and, long story short, mine are STILL messed up after having Qman nearly 3 years ago. I figured adding a probiotic back into my routine couldn’t hurt, so I took her recommendation for Natren Healthy Trinity. I’ve only used it for a couple of weeks now, so I’ll have to give you guys an update down the road if I notice any changes.

What supplements do you use on a regular basis?

  1. I haven’t had a larabar in forever- that is my favorite flavor though! So many people are jumping on the collagen train and I want to give it a go too! I only take calcium daily and iron every so often, but I just ordered fish oil!

  2. Natural Calm is the only supplement that I use — I suffer from anxiety attacks and this is the only thing that helps me.. i LOVE it. I usually put it in warm water before bed and it immediately relaxes me.

  3. Love seeing what bloggers eat in a day. My kids with IBD take probiotics, l glutamine, natural calm, fish oil and collagen along with a multi and d3.
    I take a bunch of stuff. Meriva (curcumin), l glutamine, d3, body biotic or klaire lab probiotics are the ones I recommend. The list goes on though but I won’t bore you! Ha! I am loving collagen right now too. I can’t do caffeine and am enjoying dandieon root tea right now. You can’t go wrong with larabars. My kids love them.

  5. I take Vit D (my levels are always low), fish oil, and I use Vega Clean vanilla protein every day. I also like the Natural Calm, but I don’t use it on a regular basis. I may have to try those Beauty Bursts!

  6. I take a probiotic, calcium, and add in collagen and drink Calm. Protein powdered is another supplement, but it’s a few times a week if I want a smoothie or protein pancake.

  7. Right now I only take a prenatal vitamin and Omega 3 fish oil – I’ll probably go back to taking more once I’m don’e breastfeeding, it’s just so hard to find info out there on what’s okay to take.

    Also, I don’t know why I waited to try it so long as I go to Trader Joe’s almost every week, but I just tried their cashew butter and I am completely obsessed! It tastes like frosting to me, I love it!

  8. I haven’t thought about Larabars in forever, they used to be my go to!

    Lately I’ve been making Vega Sport protein shakes. And I always take a multivitamin!

  9. I have to look into collagen – I’ve heard so many good things about it! I take Athletic Greens, which is a green powder filled with all kinds of vitamins/probiotics, plus fish oil each day. Nice and simple but the green powder is kind of an all-in-one.

  10. I might need to add some collagen into my life. I’ve been hearing all over about the benefits.

    Currently, I take Ritual Essential for Women multivitamins and Philosophie Superfoods Protein. Ritual is literally the first vitamin I’ve found that has everything I would want in a multivitamin but doesn’t make my stomach hurt or give me fish burps.

  12. Hi! Thank you for the post, I love hearing about the supplements! I too use Natural Calm. I have had a lot of sleep issues. Recently I started using Royal Jelly everyday. My acupuncturist suggested it to help with sleep and restless legs at night. I tried the link for the Churro Pure but nothing comes up. Is the brand SFH? I love the coconut flavor!

  13. I know it is uber trendy in the blog-o-sphere to ingest collagen, but honestly the actual SCIENCE is pretty weak. It is quite implausible that digesting any specific proteins actually influence production of those proteins in the body. Two known diseases for collagen deficiency – scurvy & Lobstein’s – cannot be treated with collagen supplementation. Basically dietary collagen supplements should act similar to any other protein dietary supplement. I’m highly skeptical.

  14. I’ve been super into my Rainbow Light Women’s multivitamin energy gummies, they’re so delicious! Also probiotics – been super into those lately!

    That dandy blend and those beauty bursts you mentioned sound pretty awesome, I think I need to check those out!! I’ve also been dying to try collagen peptides, I keep seeing those everywhere!

  15. I second Natural Calm. I also found that Doctor’s Best Magnesium Glycinate is at destressing me and making me relax and have great sleep at night after some workout sessions.

    Thanks for introducing non-GMO whey protein will give it a shot.

  16. My chiropractor just recommended I start taking collagen daily as it is good for joint health. I’ve been seeing it all over your blog for months but I’ll be jumping on board soon as well!

  17. Collagen hydrolysate is the best. I drink it every single morning mixed into my iced coffee and I have definitely noticed less cellulite on my thighs and, dare I say, clearer skin and better digestion. I swear by it now!

  18. Dandy blend is pretty good! I’m a fan of chicory root (currently using Ayurvedic). It supposedly has a lot of benefits, but I take it as a coffee substitute because coffee gives me crazy jitters and then crash pretty hard!

  19. This is a great shout on the GMO-free whey protein – I’ve been searching for an alternative recovery powder for a few months now so will definitely give it a try! My wife also got us into your No-Bake Protein Balls (awesome) recently, so will pair them up and see how it goes. Thanks!
