Happy birthday to my wonderful mother! She turns 49 again this year! 😉
For Mother’s Day this past year, I wrote a post about 10 Things My Mom Taught Me. I thought about writing a similar post for her birthday, but then my sister used one of my mom’s famous “mom-isms” the other day, so it inspired this post. It’s funny how often my sister and I both use “mom-isms” in our everyday conversations. Gah! Are we turning into our mother?!
Here are 10 of my favorite “mom-isms” from my mom:
- If it was a dog, it would have bit ya.
- I’m not running a restaurant.
- If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.
- The dishes aren’t going to wash themselves.
- I don’t have a pot to piss in.
- It’s just money.
- Because I’m your mother, that’s why.
- Life isn’t fair.
- You’re killing me, Smalls.
- It’s just a little cat hair.
What are your favorite “mom-isms” (or “dad-isms”)?
The other day, I received a question from a reader asking how I come up with ideas for my morning oatmeal. I rarely eat the same bowl twice, but, often times, the fresh produce in my house determines the flavor of my oatmeal. For instance, a very ripe banana in my fruit bowl was the first ingredient into my oatmeal this morning. No food goes to waste in our house!
I also get ideas from other bloggers (canned pumpkin), and I’ll just randomly throw in ingredients from my refrigerator and cabinets (nuts, dried fruit, shredded coconut, etc.). I also add chia seeds and ground flaxseed meal to my oatmeal for their omega-3s, and nut butter for its staying power”” it sticks to my ribs and keeps me full for hours.
This morning’s breakfast was a big bowl of banana oatmeal with chopped dates, ground flaxseed meal, and a scoop of Teddie peanut butter. I also enjoyed a very delicious glass of iced coffee.
Over the weekend, Mal brewed a pot of Godiva Chocolate Truffle Coffee that I received from the Foodbuzz Featured Publisher Program. Remember the Godiva Caramel Pecan Bark Coffee? I mean, how could you forget?! Well, the Chocolate Truffle flavor is just as dessert-y. It has a nice strong chocolaty flavor with a smooth, creamy finish, especially when you add a splash of soy milk to it.
Mal is also a huge fan of this coffee. When we were at Dunkin Donuts yesterday, he didn’t order an iced coffee and instead made a Chocolate Truffle iced coffee at home. Mal really loves Dunkin Donuts iced coffee, so this definitely says something!
Off to a fun event and then to my mom’s birthday party!
