After work this evening, I met my absolute favorite cookbook author ever: Mollie Katzen!
With over 6 million books in print, [Mollie Katzen] is listed by the New York Times as one of the best-selling cookbook authors of all time. A 2007 inductee into the prestigious James Beard Cookbook Hall of Fame, and largely credited with moving healthful vegetarian food from the “fringe” to the center of the American dinner plate, Ms. Katzen has been named by Health Magazine as one of “The Five Women Who Changed the Way We Eat.”
I was fortunate to have the opportunity to meet Mollie and chat with her for about 15 minutes. Mollie was in town for a number of Harvard-related events and activities, including tonight’s “Beans, Grains & Veggies” cooking demo at one of the dining halls on campus. Mollie was incredibly friendly, down-to-earth, and even asked me a number of questions about my blog! I gave her my Carrots ‘N’ Cake business card and she said that she would check it out! 😉 So cool!
The menu tonight included various recipes from Mollie’s cookbook,The Vegetable Dishes I Can’t Live Without. I’m sure you guys remember seeing this cookbook a few (hundred) times on my blog! 😉
- Gingered Asparagus (not pictured)
- Black Beans in Mango Sauce
- Mediterranean French Lentil Salad
- Couscous with Orange and Dill (on my plate below)
- Feta & Walnut Stuffed Cukes
The undergrads really enjoyed the “Beans, Grains & Veggies” cooking demo and dug right into the food.
I wasn’t all that hungry, but, of course, I needed to taste some of Mollie’s recipes! I especially liked the Feta & Walnut Stuffed Cukes! They were so delish, and I can’t wait to make them myself! 😀
Check out the dining hall where this event was held! Impressive, right? It reminds me of the “Great Hall” in the Harry Potter movie where the “sorting ceremony” took place!
And if meeting Mollie wasn’t enough, she autographed a copy of her The Vegetable Dishes I Can’t Live Without cookbook for me!
Check out her nice message! 😀
I love that she wrote: “Eat many more leaves! Stems, too!” It reminds me a lot of Michael Pollan’s advice: “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.” I think they’re onto something! 😉
Time for dinner and dessert! Josh and Danielle brought us homemade baked goods from Vermont! Good night, blog friends!
