If you’re not quite ready to sign up, but you’re thinking about joining the September group, make sure you’re on my nutrition email list to stay in the loop. (FYI: The September group will start on Monday, September 9th.) You’ll also get FREE recipes and meal plans when you sign up! 🙂

Per request, here are the transcripts just in case you can’t (or don’t want to) listen to the video but still want the rundown.

Today I want to talk about Master Your Macros. I asked you guys a bunch of questions last week and then never hopped on Instagram Live so I apologize for that. But I did save and screenshotted them so I will work right through them. So if you are interested in doing the Master Your Macros Challenge in August, we are starting next Monday. You still have time to sign up but of course the sooner the better. We want to get you in touch with your coach, get you your macros, all your materials, recipes, and all that good stuff to get you started. If you’re not quite ready to sign up, you’re still enjoying the summer or on vacation, it’s totally fine. We are starting the September group the Monday after Labor Day so just mark your calendars. If you want to stay in the loop, I do send emails out about it with frequently asked questions, before and after pictures, clients success stores, info about coaching and all that stuff about what plan is best for you.

Question number 1, how does it work with a coach? This is a super common question! So we do everything remotely, so when you purchase a plan online, you’ll get an auto-email from us that includes a link to a questionnaire and that’s how we get to know you. That’s also how we will figure out your macro numbers. It’s a good place to start as far as the relationship goes. Well get to know you better and better and get to know where you are as far as your workouts, you’re eating habits, things like that but that’s how we start the initial relationship. Then a lot of that relationship develops over WhatsApp and it’s a free voice messaging service. I feel like it’s just a better way to communicate with people on your own time. It’s not like you have a planned phone call or anything like that. You can leave a message for your coach and your coach can leave a message for you. Then you can listen when you have an available moment. I just feel like so much more comes across on WhatsApp vs email. Email is great, I know we are on email all the time but I feel like you can chat things out, you can ask questions, you can brainstorm. There’s just so much more to WhatsApp then just an email to a client or coach. That happens throughout the course of your relationship with your coach, whether you sign up for a 4, 8 or 12-week plan. You’ll have that 1-1 relationship with them and you can contact them as much or as little as you’d like and your coach will get back to you and help you out with anything you need. So that’s how it works. Of course, if you need more attention, your coach will be there for you. If you are pretty good on your own and you just want to check in here and there with them, that’s totally fine too. And that’s something we will kind of establish in the beginning and then throughout the relationship, we can adjust as needed.

Question two, I’m a vegetarian, can I still sign up. Yes, of course. Macros work for any type of diet. Vegetarian, vegan, paleo, gluten-free, dairy-free, pescatarian, you name it, anybody can do macros. Really, all it is is a tool to help you make more balanced choices. Macros are basically just macronutrients, protein, carbs and fat. And our goal is to just have balanced meals. So as a vegetarian, you aren’t eating meat, fish, and things that are the usual sources of meat where you get a lot of protein. For vegetarians, we find other ways for them to hit their protein goals like dairy, eggs or whatever you eat. We really do work with you to figure that out. That’s why it’s so important to work with a coach because you get to brainstorm. You get to say what foods you like, what do you have at your grocery store, what are you able to cook this week. That’s why it’s great to bounce ideas around. We also send you recipes each week so if you are vegetarian, we are only going to send you recipes that are vegan or vegetarian. It’s customized to your dietary preferences as well. We don’t tell you exactly what to eat but we do give you ideas for your own plan.

Question 3, will my coach tell me what to eat? No, they don’t tell you exactly what to eat. They do send you fresh recipes every week to keep your eating and meal prep interesting. I feel like that’s a huge thing about healthy eating. If you’re not excited about your food choices, you’re not going to stick to eating healthy. If you have something in the fridge and you’re like “eh, I’m not really into that”, you’re going to eat cereal for dinner or get take out or something like that. So that’s why we are always sending recipes. And you can make them all, you can make one or two. It really just depends on what you are into and your food preferences and all that stuff. Again, we will customize them to your dietary preference but we don’t give you a filled out meal plan of this is what you are having for breakfast, lunch, etc. But those recipes will cover the basis of one or two breakfast ideas, a few lunch & dinner, and a snack idea every week. So you’ll always have something new in there but ultimately you’ll be decided what you each week to week.

Do you do regular check-ins with clients? Yes, we do! We will check in with you as a client at least twice a week to see how you are doing and if you need anything from us. Sometimes clients just need somebody there for accountability and support just to know that somebody is there for them. They’re pretty self-sufficient and don’t need a lot of help but if you have any questions, reach out to us. We are more than happy to help. That’s why you hired us and that’s why we have that relationship with you. So we have 2 regular check-ins per week and more if you need it.

Question 5, do I need to hit my macros every day? No! We are not about macro-ing harder or hitting your macros every single day. We are very flexible. I think why we are a little different than other macro companies out there is we really focus on the mindset and habits around healthy eating. Macros are a great tool to keep you on track but we aren’t like “you have to hit your macros on the dot for them to work”. Really if you can establish some consistency with your eating habits in terms of meal prep and getting lots of fruit and veggies in your diet. And even just how you think about food, I mean we are very carrots and cake. You can have lots of the good stuff and you can have your treats but you kind of have to plan for it to balance those choices. So we aren’t all “you have to hit your macros all the time”. and you’ll get that from me and the other coaches. There is something to think about but your whole day isn’t based around these numbers. It’s just a guide.

Ok question number six, how do you track macros? I’m guessing this is related to the app, like MyFitnessPal. So we use MyFitnessPal to track and I just think it’s really user-friendly. It’s just easy to use, every food ever is in there, it has that great scanning option, I just think it has a lot of handy dandy bells and whistles. Of course, the upgraded version is the one we prefer but you can totally do this program with the free app and you’ll be fine. We typically use that, if you have another app you use, we can make it work. MyFitnessPal is just what our coaches know best so we like to use it.

The last question is how do you figure out my macros? That comes from that initial questionnaire that we get from you guys. You’ll enter your body weight, your body fat %, your workout routine, your body type, your occupation, things like that. That’s just an initial number to get us started. We will say these are your starting macros and from there, we’ll work together over the next 3-4 weeks to see what happens. See how you feel, how your hunger and energy levels are sleep and from there, we will adjust to see what works for you. Sometimes the protein is too high or you feel like crap after your workouts so we just make adjustments. It’s just a starting point for us and we have this handy dandy excel spreadsheet that calculates everything that we factor in like how much you’re moving, what your body fat percentage, your goals, your body type and things like that. It spits out a number for us, then we can make adjustments as needed. Then we work with you 1-1 to figure out the best ratio for you. Of course, we see what happens for you with the scale and your goals and all that good stuff. That’s why that 1-1 relationship is so important and why we use WhatsApp to see what’s going on.

That’s all the questions I have for you today! The August challenge starts Monday and we already have a great group signed up. I know I’ve gotten a lot of inquiries about people being on vacation or wanting to be back in a routine before getting started, which I total understand because summer mode over here too. Make sure you are on my email list so you can stay up to date about the September group. Let me know if you have any questions and see you soon!
