Hi, friends! Greetings from high in the sky, somewhere over the United States. I’m on my way to California for the CrossFit Games on behalf of Reebok and Fitfluential, and I am so, so pumped. Ahhh, CrossFit Christmas!

My alarm went off at 3:31 AM this morning, but, surprisingly, I popped right out of bed. I didn’t fall asleep until about 11:00 PM last night, so I figured it would have been a rough morning for me, but I was so jazzed about this trip, I just got up and got going.

Of course, Murphy followed me out of bed. He didn’t care what time it was. There was a potential for food, and he wasn’t going to miss it.

I fed Murphy, showered and got ready, and then packed up my things before waking Mal to drive me to the airport. (I figured I should let him sleep as long as possible since he was waking up so early to drive me. He’s the best.)

While I waited for Mal to get ready, I asked Murphy if he wanted to go for a ride in the car. Obviously, he did, and then proceeded to whine and run around the house in full excited-panic pug mode.

So excited, so panicked.

On the drive to the airport, we made a quick stop at Bank of America to get money for the airport toll. As soon as we pulled up to the ATM, Murphy started spazzing out because he thought we were at Marylou’s. Or something like Marylou’s because, honestly, how could you mix up the bright pink décor and smell of delicious coffee? C’mon, pug, get it together.

Murphy was pretty bummed once he realized the Bank of America ATM did not give out Milk Bones. His life = so hard.

The closer we got to the airport, the more I started to think about how much I am going to miss Mal and Murphy when I am away. I know it’s a quick trip, and I’ll have a blast (hello, it’s the CROSSFIT GAMES), but I always get that sick, empty feeling in the pit of my stomach before I leave my guys.

Long story short, I let Murphy sit in the front seat with me so I could give him some last-minute cuddles before I said goodbye.

Before I knew it, we were at the airport, and I was saying goodbye to Mal and grabbing my luggage out of the back of his car. Our goodbye wasn’t as sad as I expected, but I’m sure going to miss him and the furry one. They’re both so friggin’ cute. I’ll miss their faces.

I thought we gave ourselves plenty of time to get to the airport, but I was a little rushed once I got there. Usually, I’m at the airport like two hours early because I’m always worried about missing my flight, and I also just kind of like hanging out at the airport, people-watching, sipping iced coffee, and reading celebrity gossip magazines. You know what I’m talking about, right? Anyway, by the time I got my boarding pass, there were no other available seat options on my flight, so I was stuck with a middle seat near the bathroom on a nearly 6-hour flight. Boo. Woe is me. I wasn’t psyched, but I didn’t think there was anything I could do, so I headed to the gate.

By the time I got through security and walked to the gate, my flight was already boarding. I wasn’t looking forward to the long flight, sandwiched between two strangers, and breathing not-so-pleasant bathroom air, so I took a chance and asked the counter attendant at United if there were any open seats on the flight. I knew it was probably a long shot, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask. I mean, the worst thing she could say was no, right?

Well, it was my lucky day today, and the counter attendant switched my seat to an aisle seat in an exit row. Holy crap, best seat ever! I must have thanked her at least a half dozen times before getting in line to board the flight. She totally made my day.

There was so much leg room! And a blanket! I was in heaven.

When the flight attendant asked me if I was willing and able to perform the necessary duties in case of an emergency (since I was sitting in the exit row), I simply replied ”˜yes.’ But, in my head, I was thinking: If something bad happens and we need to get out of this plane, I’m going to clean and jerk that door over my head so fast, you won’t even know what happened. I eat 49-pound (how much the door weighed) clean and jerks for breakfast.

Training for life.

Anyway”¦

I’m a goober.

Let’s talk plane eats. How about that?

I stopped by Whole Foods last night and grabbed a random mix of foods for breakfast this morning. There was no breakfast bar at that hour, so I did the best I could with the available selection. I ended up with chicken, pecans, blueberries, red grapes, and dried cranberries. It was a nice mix of carbs, protein, and fat.

I also bought a Kit’s Organic Fruit + Nut Bar from Clif. It was really tasty (just like a Larabar), and I loved that it only had 4 ingredients in it (dates, cashews, almonds, sea salt).

I also packed some almonds to snack on.
