Lose the Dough

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots β€˜N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Good morning, friends! 😎

Does Murphy look like he put on a few pounds? I swear thing dog gains weight overnight. I had to adjust his Puppia again before we went out this morning. When is this little guy going to stop growing!?! He’s at least 23 pounds now!

Speaking of gaining weight overnight, I sort of feel like I did after eating almost 10 cookies yesterday. πŸ˜• Check out Elina’s photo of me in action at the Cookie Swap. At least, I really enjoyed myself! πŸ˜‰

So, are you ready for my news? Let’s do breakfast first! πŸ˜‰

This morning’s breakfast was a wonderful egg white sandwich with soy cheddar cheese and buffalo sauce on a toasted Sandwich Thin. Obviously, I love this combo!

On the side, I had some apple slices.

And a Red Eye (coffee + shot of espresso)! 😯

And here’s my news!

Lose the Dough

So, my 30th birthday is right around the corner. Some people bug-out about turning 30, but I’m really looking forward to it. Entering a new decade is sort of like turning over a new leaf.

I want to enter my 30’s as my healthiest self and looking my best, so I’ve decided to embark on a 5-month journey to get myself in tip-top shape. I’ve named this challenge: Lose the Dough for the Big 3-0.

Ok, so the name is little corny, but I think it describes my current situation pretty well. It’s not like I need to lose weight, but since our wedding well over a year ago, I’ve put on a few pounds– nothing major, but I still feel a little “doughy.” Remember how ripped I looked back in July 2008!?! I worked hard for that body, but slowly and surely, the post-wedding pounds have caught up with me. It’s no big deal, but now I want to lose the “dough” for one of the most important birthdays of my life.

With the help of my good friends at Healthworks, I plan to lose the dough and document everyday of my journey from January 19 to June 19, 2010 (my 30th birthday). I’ll keep you updated with my progress and share my daily eats, workouts, and insights into a 5-month shape-up challenge. Through this journey, I hope to tone-up and look great for my 30th, but I also want to show my readers that these changes don’t happen overnight. If you’ve read my weight loss story, you know that it look me an entire year to lose 25 pounds. Permanent changes to my lifestyle helped me lose the weight and keep it off for 5+ years now.

Lose the Dough for the Big 3-0 may seem like a “diet” since it’s timeframe spans just 5 months, but I don’t view it this way at all. Of course, I hope to lose a few pounds and shape-up, but I want the changes that I make to stick with me longer than just those 5 months. Basically, my 30th birthday was the perfect excuse for me to step-it-up with living a healthy lifestyle!

If you want to embark on a similar journey to “lose the dough” (for a special occasion or even bikini season), I’d love to have you join me! I know there are quite a few 1980 babies out there, too! πŸ˜‰ I officially begin the challenge next Tuesday, January 19th, exactly 5 months from my 30th birthday. I’m having my measurements and “before” photo taken at Healthworks later this morning and I’ll reveal my “game plan” for the 5-month challenge next Monday– the day before the official start. If you’d like to join in, you have one week to get yourself organized (i.e. take measurements, set up a game plan, etc.). If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me!

Wish me luck! I need all the support and encouragement I can get!

  1. great idea! I’ll definitely follow along with you. I got married about a year and a half ago, and I’d love to feel as toned as I did then. although i think my blog hasn’t helped my goal…i’m always baking something haha

  2. Good luck on your challenge, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself.
I just turned 30 in December and had a mini-freakout, but it’s all good now. I’m loving being 30. I learned so much in my twenties, I can’t wait to see what this decade has in store. Can’t wait for you to join me in the 30 club girl!

  3. Such a great idea! I want to join in. I swear I am one of the few who actually gain weight after the New Year and not during the holidays. I just can’t stop myself these days. This is a perfect way to get serious and support definitely helps. Thanks, Tina πŸ™‚

  4. I love your challenge to yourself, but I love even more that you understand you are fine the way you are too! Your attitude is why love this blog!

  5. I’m definitely feeling a little “doughy” from all of the cookies/goodies/deliciousness I ate over the holidays. Best of luck with your shape up, and I’ll definitely be following along and doing a plan of my own for the next few months!

  6. Sounds like a great plan and I KNOW you can do it! You shouldn’t just stop at your 30th birthday though like you said you want to be happy and healthy all the time not just for a diet or an event although that is a good way to make goals!

  7. Fun challenge! You look great now! But wow, your arms look seriously AMAZING in your honeymoon pics. What did you do to get to that point? I’m getting married at the end of March and am shooting for that look- I’m not quite there yet though πŸ™‚

  8. Good Luck! I can’t wait to read along and see what kind of exercise plan that you come up with. I will be right there with you. I have slowly put on almost all of the weight I lost last year so I am already put my plan in motion but it will be great to read along with someone else.

  9. Good luck on your challenge Tina! I actually have been thinking about doing a “shape up” as well. I love the idea of a “New Year- New You” challenge. I go to the Cambridge HW so I’ll be looking forward to seeing how you incorporate what HW has to offer into your game plan!!

  10. Oh man, I completely feel the same way. I turn 30 on May 31st and I am also aiming to be at my healthiest by that point. I can’t wait to hear what your plan is!

  11. Great challenge girl! I actually just officially started my weight loss plan today. I want to lose the 4 lb creep since my wedding plus about 10 more. I am happy to know that I will have you to motivate me!!! I’ll try and motivate you too!

  12. Popular concept! I too have a 30th birthday weight loss goal that I’ve been working towards since just after Thanksgiving. 130# by my 30th on March 29, 2010. Ahhhhh! Super excited to move through the final stretch with you!

  13. Good luck with losing the ‘dough’! You are so cute Tina πŸ™‚ You are hot whether you lose the dough or not but I understand how monumental the 30th birthday is so you want to look and feel your best to kick off another fabulous decade!

  14. Good luck!!!! And i’m completely with you, I would love to take the challenge! I don’t feel I need to lose weight, it’s more that I want to tone up a little bit. Completely on board!!

P.S. I think it’s a pug thing to gain weight like that. My parents have one and she is overweight almost no matter how little she eats and how much she exercises.

  15. You have the right idea. I am in the process of creating blog following the same idea. I am starting today, but would be more than happy to join in with you in your journey. Good Luck.

  16. Glad I’ll have ur posts to keep me motivated, Tina! 1980 babies unite! I’ll be hitting 30 in September (can’t believe it!!! scary!) and ur right it would be just awesome to hit it in the best shape of my life! I’m totally in, AND and work out at HW Brookline so I’ll be following your workouts closely! Happy Monday!

  17. Tina, we have the same birthday! I’m a bit younger but I think your plan sounds great. I’ve been following you for awhile now and can’t wait to see you achieve your goal!

  18. Good timing! I’m getting married in June and oculd use someone to follow along a bit. I actually am about 50 pounds over weight and it used to drive me crazy when a thin person tried to lose five pounds or so, but then I had the obvious rtealization that if I had lost that first five pounds, now I wouldn’t be trying to lose fifty. I think you look great how you are, and commend you for trying to do your very best, can’t wait to follow along!

  19. I love this plan! I’d like to take a few pounds off as well but have always had problems taking those last “5” pounds off.

What measurements will you be taking?

  20. I’m excited about joining in on this plan! I took my measurements last weekend, but what I really want to do is find out what my body fat percentage is—any tips on where to do that? Thanks for motivating!

Lose the Dough for Summer 2010!!! I WILL feel comfortable in my bikini this year! πŸ™‚

  21. from looking at your pictures I don’t think you need to shed any weight!! but if you feel better a few pounds lighter then I say go for it!! I’m also on a sort of tone-up program. my wedding is in 120 days and I want to look fab in the photos!

  22. I’m in. I used to do some sort of sweaty exercise almost every single day but have toootallly stopped over the past month! living in Madrid, not wanting to spend the money on a gym, cold winter weather hindering my outdoor running, travel, and just relaxing and enjoying the lifestyle here have all made exercise wayyyy lower on the priority list. not a big deal since i walk a ton but man i have lost a LOT of my tonedness. sunny days and shorts are right around the corner so i better start now!!

  23. Great idea, and I love the name! I’m a 1981 baby, so I figure I’m close enough to turning 30 in 2011. This will be good for me to follow because I feel like you, I don’t need to lose, but an extra 5-10lbs off would make me so happy. I completely admire the people who need to lose a lot of weight and live a healthier lifestyle. For those of us who are already quite healthy and only need to lose a little, it’s hard to make positive changes, when what we do is already very positive. Can’t wait!!

  24. What a great idea! I turn 3-0 just before you, on June 4th!

I kind of have buckled down in the past year and honestly feel the most confident than I ever have. This is reassuring to me because, to be honest, getting old(er) does scare me sometimes! But gals like you (and hopefully me?!) make aging seem not so scary….I think you look absolutely amazing!!!

  25. Of course I think you look awesome now, but I think your goal is a great and realistic one. Having a game plan to get stronger and fitter is always a good choice. Good luck! I can’t wait to see your fitness and health plan next week.

Thanks for writing such an incredible blog. It’s a great escape to read during the day. πŸ™‚

  26. This sounds like a great idea!! Sign me up!! I would kill for a body like yours, but it is so much easier to stay on track when you have a support system to turn to!!

  27. Good luck, Tina! Fitness can be so much fun. I love having new goals. It keeps you motivated. I was kind of getting bored with my workout routine and now that I have changed it up a bit, I can feel and see a difference in myself physically and mentally! Can’t wait to see what you are working on!

  28. I have also been using the big 3-0 (mine is in two months) as motivation to tone up and lose weight. And then, to add to my motivation, I recently got engaged! I want to be able to feel comfortable in a bathing suit on my honeymoon, not to mention show off some fab arms in my dress!

  29. I’m gonna be right there with you. I’m turning the big 3-0 just 2 months after you! I’m going to really kick off my “Lose the Dough” campaign by training for another mini. It is so much work, but I love how much better of shape I’m in by the end.

  30. you already look amazing so I cant wait to follow you on this journey!! You always have such a positive and healthy outlook and I think this is great inspiration for others. As a personal trainer this is really the most imporatant part of any weight loss or body transformation-MOTIVATION from WITHIN πŸ™‚ you have it, tina!!

love the Patriots mug, too bad they are out of the play offs πŸ™

  31. Good Luck Tina! Although, I definitely do not think that you need to lose any weight! I am impressed that you are going to keep track of everything you do! I’d love to join, as I am turning 30 in October – yikes! but, just not sure I can do this for the next 9 months with my half marathons and marathons I am running and training for! I look forward to following your training though!

  32. Maybe it’s just Murphy’s “winter weight.” My basset always seems to gain a small amount of weight during the winter months: decreased exercise + extra body insulation + seasonal blues (probably). She always loses it in the spring and summer.

  33. I will be joining you. or at least following and copying what you are doing!
I am going to Cuba for vacation with the bf in less than 2 months and i am having trouble dropping the last 5 or 7 lbs. I dont know what it is, but those few last pounds do not wanna come off.
so yes, i will be joining you in this journey!

  34. Oh, and I forgot to mention your Pats glass. Wasn’t that game just… dreadful? I almost couldn’t bear to watch.
