Lose the Dough

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Good morning, friends! 😎

Does Murphy look like he put on a few pounds? I swear thing dog gains weight overnight. I had to adjust his Puppia again before we went out this morning. When is this little guy going to stop growing!?! He’s at least 23 pounds now!

Speaking of gaining weight overnight, I sort of feel like I did after eating almost 10 cookies yesterday. 😕 Check out Elina’s photo of me in action at the Cookie Swap. At least, I really enjoyed myself! 😉

So, are you ready for my news? Let’s do breakfast first! 😉

This morning’s breakfast was a wonderful egg white sandwich with soy cheddar cheese and buffalo sauce on a toasted Sandwich Thin. Obviously, I love this combo!

On the side, I had some apple slices.

And a Red Eye (coffee + shot of espresso)! 😯

And here’s my news!

Lose the Dough

So, my 30th birthday is right around the corner. Some people bug-out about turning 30, but I’m really looking forward to it. Entering a new decade is sort of like turning over a new leaf.

I want to enter my 30’s as my healthiest self and looking my best, so I’ve decided to embark on a 5-month journey to get myself in tip-top shape. I’ve named this challenge: Lose the Dough for the Big 3-0.

Ok, so the name is little corny, but I think it describes my current situation pretty well. It’s not like I need to lose weight, but since our wedding well over a year ago, I’ve put on a few pounds– nothing major, but I still feel a little “doughy.” Remember how ripped I looked back in July 2008!?! I worked hard for that body, but slowly and surely, the post-wedding pounds have caught up with me. It’s no big deal, but now I want to lose the “dough” for one of the most important birthdays of my life.

With the help of my good friends at Healthworks, I plan to lose the dough and document everyday of my journey from January 19 to June 19, 2010 (my 30th birthday). I’ll keep you updated with my progress and share my daily eats, workouts, and insights into a 5-month shape-up challenge. Through this journey, I hope to tone-up and look great for my 30th, but I also want to show my readers that these changes don’t happen overnight. If you’ve read my weight loss story, you know that it look me an entire year to lose 25 pounds. Permanent changes to my lifestyle helped me lose the weight and keep it off for 5+ years now.

Lose the Dough for the Big 3-0 may seem like a “diet” since it’s timeframe spans just 5 months, but I don’t view it this way at all. Of course, I hope to lose a few pounds and shape-up, but I want the changes that I make to stick with me longer than just those 5 months. Basically, my 30th birthday was the perfect excuse for me to step-it-up with living a healthy lifestyle!

If you want to embark on a similar journey to “lose the dough” (for a special occasion or even bikini season), I’d love to have you join me! I know there are quite a few 1980 babies out there, too! 😉 I officially begin the challenge next Tuesday, January 19th, exactly 5 months from my 30th birthday. I’m having my measurements and “before” photo taken at Healthworks later this morning and I’ll reveal my “game plan” for the 5-month challenge next Monday– the day before the official start. If you’d like to join in, you have one week to get yourself organized (i.e. take measurements, set up a game plan, etc.). If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me!

Wish me luck! I need all the support and encouragement I can get!

  1. Tina, I’m turning 30 in April… and a good 15-20 pounds heavier than I was last year. I lost 100 pounds 10 years ago and kept it off (till I got pregnant… then lost it all and more… now up again)

I never imagined I would look/feel like this at this point! I can’t go into my 30’s this way! I’m so with you on this!

  2. i’d definitely love to join you in this challenge – i’m not 30 for a few more years, but i was definitely in better shape last may before summer, and i’d like to get back there.

  3. I have been on a weightloss journey these last 3 months and will be on it for some time. Slow and steady wins the race! Good luck with your challenge.
I have to say that I was happy to turn 30… that was 8 years ago 🙂 I felt that I had accomplished more than I could have hoped for and looked forward to what would be next.

  4. I just want to say that this is such a great challenge. I also started my journey to a better me on January 4th, 2010. Last year, I had started to year with a 17 pounds weight loss of a 50 pounds weight loss goal and I became stuck. I’ve since gained 9 or those 17 pounds back.

What triggered the change? Well, I will turn 34 this year, and I am tired of having the same old 50 pounds to lose every year and not doing anything about it. I’m almost in my mid-thirties, it’s time I get serious about my health now.

So the best of luck, I will surely keep on reading! 🙂

  5. I love that you focus on long-term, sustainable changes rather than a “quick fix.” Can’t wait to see your plans and re-commit to my own goals. Thanks for the inspiration! 🙂

  6. sounds like an awesome challenge! i’m turning 25 in june so i’m up for a 5-month shape-up to look my best for my quarter-century b-day! i’ll definitely be following you along the way 🙂

  7. I love the idea of Lose the Dough, and especially that it’s about lifelong changes & not temporary changes to your diet!! That’s what I’m trying to do, too.

And, as always, Murphy is adorable!

  8. I have made my goal weight but I’m still doughy in places I’m not happy with. I’ll be sure to take my measurements and join you. I’m looking forward to being more toned for the summer and for life now that my weight is where I want it to be.

  9. Good luck! I’ve been reading for ages but haven’t commented in a while. I’m working on getting in better shape as well, since I have a ton of time on my hands right now! I ordered a Wii & Wii Fit Plus so I can convince my mother and boyfriend to “play” with me! I’m also taking advantage of the university gym (tiny, but hey it’s free!). I love your mentality about weight loss and maintenance so doing this at the same time as you will be very encouraging and inspiring!

  10. I love the “loose the dough” challenge. I hope you are planning to post your daily work outs. I have been trying to eat much healthier lately myself – specifically living a more sustainable lifestyle and eating organic. I go to the gym but feel totally lost when there – do you plan to post all the details of your daily workouts?? I hope so – I would love to follow along.

  11. Hello, so i came across this blog thru google, and i typed in “i want to lose weight before my bday June 19, 2010.” Ill be turning 22. I am a female and I am motivated but i need advise and perhaps if u have a daily work out and meal routine, that will work, but i didnt get the chance to read all your comments, but i would love to enter a weight loss challenge. Well ill save this page and look in to it later on today!! Thank you!!

  12. I’m down. I’m not turning 30 but at the end of June i’m starting an Ob/Gyn residency and I would love to be in shape before life gets really crazy.

  13. Sounds like a great plan! I would like to be bikini ready once the snow melts and temps warm up! I started up this week, I will definitely be following along with you as well. Good Luck!

  14. Well, I am coming up on 39 in May, and I too have some “dough” I would like to disappear! So, I am in with you!
PS – I am from the Boston area, and now live in Virginia – your pictures always make me smile….I get homesick every now and then, so they are great. Thanks! 🙂

  15. I dont really need to lose weight either, but it can be a good option to re-catch good habits i have sort of “lost”. So, if you admit me, i would like to join the challenge! it will be a overseas challenge (i live between spain and france), and i have a very tight agenda, but i will try to follow you on your tips and exercise as much as i can (not easy since i leave home at 6am and come back at 20 🙁
    thanks for everything!

  16. This is my exact goal!! It will be great to follow you as I embark on the same journey for my 30th birthday in August. I would actually like to lose about 25 pounds, but the lifestyle changes are more important than the numbers. I look forward to watching you & staying motivated as well. Thanks!!!

  17. Hi there! I just stumbled on your “lose the dough” challenge via twitter and love the idea. I also go to Healthworks (and also turn 30 this year) and have been trying to “tone up” for the past few months… though the results aren’t coming as quickly as I’d hoped. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on your blog from now on and look forward to gaining some tips/insight from you. A couple questions: 1. is it to late to “join”? and 2. have you thought of any “real-life” aspect to this? There must be a bunch of people at Healthworks with similar goals who might be looking for a workout partner or group to help stay motivated…

  19. Before I knew about your blog (my daughter introduced me to it) I also gave myself a challenge to lose 50 by 50 at gonewiththewinded.blogspot.com. It’s mostly a journal for myself to keep up with my goal of losing a pound per week. I officially started June 11th and will go through till my 50th birthday next June. As a birthday present, my daughter Kelsey gave me your book.

I was never one to care about weight or physical fitness because weight wasn’t an issue until I hit 30 and had my second child. The third child completely put me over the edge and I’ve gained weight every year since. That was 18 years ago. Now I’m 50 lbs overweight.

Needless to say, I think you were smart to check in with yourself and nip things before they became a real problem. I take it you were successful. I’m going to go back and read up on it. Take care!
