This morning, I had my Lose the Dough check-in at Healthworks. Tara, my trainer, took my stats and measurements, and then snapped this gorgeous photo:
Blah. Worst photo ever! I look like I just woke up. š Direct quote from my husband: “I’m not going to lie, you don’t look good.” (His comment actually cracked me up! š )
Anyway, here are last month’s stats:
- Weight: 129.8 pounds
- Body Fat: 21.0%
- BMI: 22.2
- Waist: 26.25 inches
- Abdomen: 27.5 inches
- Hips: 36.75 inches
In comparison to my starting point, my numbers went down in every category. Yay! This surprised me quite a bit because I didn’t change too many aspects of my lifestyle– I actually thought that the numbers would stay the same.
Looking back on the past month, these are the things that I think “worked” for me:
- Adding more strength training to my weekly workouts
- Cutting back on alcohol
- Eating smaller portions of dessert
So, I guess trying a little bit harder seems to be working. Hopefully, I can keep it up!
A lot of people have asked me if I have a goal weight in mind for Lose the Dough– and I really don’t. I just want to feel strong and look more toned. My core is already stronger and my hip is a million times better.
Ask Me Anything
Here are a bunch more Ask Me Anything responses!
You and Mal seem so great together! What would be your number one piece of relationship advice?
I actually have two pieces of advice: laugh with your partner multiple times a day and have separate checking accounts.
You mentioned that Mal has a blog, right? What is it?
Mal does not have a blog. He’s really not into them.
I recently read that you spend about $300 per month on groceries. I would absolutely love to know how you manage this while still eating healthy! I am a nutritionist and spend much more then $75/wk! Would you consider posting about shopping on a budget?

Do you monitor your heart rate while working out?
No, I don’t use a heart rate monitor.
Any suggestions for a beginning runner?
Yep! Check out my Running Tips.
How much fresh produce do you buy at a time and how do you keep it so fresh?
I typically buy enough fresh produce for one week. I keep the majority of it in the refrigerator to help it last longer. You can see my recent shopping trips over on Trading Up Downtown.
Do you take the time to edit your photos? How long does it take you to write a blog post?
I don’t edit my photos. I just upload them to iPhoto and put them into Ecto.Ā It takes me anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour to write a blog post.
How old is Mal?
He’s 27.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
San Francisco.
Do you ever get sick of Boston and its weather?
I don’t really get sick of Boston– it’s a wonderful city– but the winter is depressing, frustrating, and never-ending.

Congrats on the stats! It’s the little things that all add up.
I love reading that it can take you up to an hour to write a post. I always thought I took forever to write a post but that is about on par for me.
wow you did awesome! i’m not personally trying to lose weight but i am SURE you are so inspiring to people who are because your eating habits are so realistic for everyday life!!
Have fun packing
Tina you look fantastic – fresh out of bed or not! Congrats on such awesome progress. I totally need to add in more strength! Funny goal – I would LOVE it if my thighs didn’t touch when I stand like that! š
i think you lovely in the pic – you look happy!
“Winter is depressing, frustrating and never-ending”…amen, sista!! Especially this year!
w00t! congrats on the stats! i say you look absolutely fine in that photo…
Congrats on your stats. I’m so glad that the small changes you’ve been making really work! Very encouraging. You’ve been part of what has convinced me to add a lot more strength training to my routine. I love my body pump! Thanks so much for posting the weight’s you’re lifting in class a few weeks ago. I’m not caught up to you yet with my leg weights, but I like that challenge (I thrive on even my own invented competition.:))
You look great.
Congrats on making progress in all categories! I’m right there with you…turning 30 in July (eek!) and trying to tone up for our wedding in October. You’ve inspired me this month!
Great job on getting fit while keeping a healthy balance! It’s inspiring that small changes – that you can sustain – make a big difference. I really need to find a body pump class!
Congratulations on keeping up with your fitness routine!! And I totally feel your pain regarding the cold weather…it seems like we will never see the sunshine again here in Minnesota!
Come to SF!!! lol
Props to you for posting a pic that you don’t like. You should be proud! You have an amazing little bod!
Movers? Wish my parents had done that when we were younger. We moved an average of every 18months. I hate moving. Funny how when someone wants my help I’m always working. No seriously it’s always worked out that way š
Good job on the challenge! It’s so rewarding to see a change because of hard work.
Congrats! It’s amazing what a few little changes can do. I know I would struggle like crazy to get to the gym everyday if I lived someplace cold (I’m in AZ)!
Congrats on lose the dough!! How exciting!! Question~ I know you said you really do not count calories~ this last month did you watch your calories or intake more to you count generally in your head or do you follow more of a intuative eating style. I am reading that book right now , it is good!

Way to go Tina! And, I think what you said about how you look is a little harsh. I actually think ya look cute :).
woohoooo. Way to go Tina! I was a bit scared for you at first because you’ve actually eaten out quite a bit the last couple of weeks…I did notice a drop in alcohol consumption so maybe that’s why you are looking fab. And mal? hilarious. I cracked up laughing at his comment on your pic too!
Just wanted to say you look pretty darn good. Reminds me when I used to have those dimples when I actually was working out regularly š However, I like your profile pics you have on your website here better. Even the bf agrees š Nonetheless, congrats
Great job on the challenge so far Tina! You have really inspired me to get back on track myself š
So happy for you Tina!! You are so motivating to me! Keep up the great work!
Great job!!!
I feel the same way about Boston! I LOOOVE the city but I hated the weather. I guess that’s normal when you move there from Miami (and why I never went back after I came home for winter break haha).
Congrats Tina! You’re doing an awesome job, and oh my god, tiny waist! I do a ton of core/waist work, but no matter what, my waist always stays right at 27 inches. I guess that’s where it’s meant to be, and I’m more than fine with it!
Best of luck with your move!
Hi Tina – great stats from Lose the Dough! I just wanted to tell you that reading this post got my butt up off the computer and out the door to Jazzercise! I had planned to go, but then got crabby about work, just wanted to lay around last night, but seeing your results got me moving! Thanks!! Keep up the good work!
I’m 29 turning 30 later in the year and my husband is also 27 (i love telling people that i have a toyboy!) This will be the first time that we are a decade apart in our age as he was 20 and i was 22 when we met – i’m not sure how i feel about that ;o/
Just wanted to say well done on your stats for losing the dough – you are looking amazing (even tho you and Mal don’t think so in the photo) x
