Looking for Hair Dryer Recommendations

Hi, friends!

I’m looking for some hair dryer recommendations, and I’m hoping you guys might be able to help me out!

A few years ago, Mal bought me a fancy ionic hairdryer, but instead of it making my hair sleek and smooth, it makes my hair frizzy. I know. It’s suppose to do just the opposite, but it doesn’t. I’ve tried all sorts of hair products, brushes, and techniques, but, no matter what I do, my hair still comes out all frizzy. You’d think it was just my hair, but when I blow dry it at hotels (or my in-law’s or friends’ houses) with a regular hairdryer, it always comes out looking so good. Not frizzy at all!

I’ve dealt with my hairdryer for a few years now because Mal bought it for me, and I know he put a lot of time, effort, and thought into his gift. He always does his research before making a big purchase like this, so I feel bad that I want to replace it. I finally talked to him about it the other day, and he was totally cool with me wanting to get a new hairdryer, so now I am looking for recommendations!

Do you like your hairdryer? Would you recommend it?

Question of the Day

Do you like your hair dryer? Would you recommend it?

  1. Looks like you got some great recs already! If only I had the time or desire to actually blow dry my hair more than once per week”¦. 😉 Sunday for church is about the only time I ever ‘do’ my hair. hah! Good luck choosing one!

  2. I have a problem with my hair getting static-y, not so much frizzy. I have to wash my hair daily because it’s fine and will look greasy otherwise. I’ve noticed that *where* I’m washing my hair makes a big difference. Something about hard water vs. soft water or something. Aussie mousse usually helps, and I know you like their conditioner 🙂

  3. OMG those pictures of Q are the cutest! What a little punkin (<— not to be confused with pumpkin, it's my word for adorable)! 🙂 I use a Conair blowdryer from target. I have thin, straight hair so it's not worth it for me to invest in a fancy one. But I really like mine, (it's blue but I don't know what model) and it was only $25!

  4. OMG”¦.I love my Elchim that I got on Amazon. I never believed a hairdryer could really make a huge difference, but it has! It’s lightweight, powerful, and not that loud. And somehow it gets my hair smoother than any previous one I’ve used.

A couple of years ago I bought a T3 (I’m embarrassed that I spent that much on one) and never really loved it; maybe my expectations were too high, or maybe I’m just not that great at doing my hair! Haha. Anyway after a few months I went back to my good old drugstore brand which seemed to do a better job. But then this year mine started to smell like it was burning so I decided to read some online reviews and I bit the bullet and bought the Elchim. Love. It

    And reasonably priced too!

  5. I have a chi- the one with the touch screen. I love it. However, I recommend getting a Keratin treatment! I have frizzy hair that isn’t totally straight but it’s not curly. I get a treatment every 4 months and you can go without even blow drying it! It’s so smooth.

  6. If you have wavy/curly hair and ever want to wear it that way…. I love the John Freida Frizz Ease Dream Curls (daily styling spray). I also like the Dream Curls shampoo & conditioner.

  7. I have had a range of hair dryers that cost anywhere from $20 to $200. I have one I bought that was almost an emergency purchase at Target because I was traveling. It’s a Conair Ion Shine and it is really awesome! Very light too. It was inexpensive. Love your headband. Where is it from?

  8. I honestly can’t remember what blow dry I have, but I’m certain I stopped buying nice ones and bought one from Target about 6-months ago. I noticed the frizzy hair thing too, but mine seems to be from our hard water. Do you have a water softener? If you have too hard of water it will dry the heck out of your hair… which could also explain why it always feels better at a friend’s house or a hotel. Mine is the exact same way.

  9. I have an ISO professional dryer and I love it. It was a Groupon purchase so I got it at a huge discount, and it’s giraffe print! My strands of hair are thin, but I have a ton of hair. My cosmetologist gets really frustrated at how long it takes to dry my hair. This dryer does a great job, even on the cool setting. That’s something I’ve never been able to use before.

  10. I have frizzy/curly/crazy hair with a mind of its own and I have noticed when the water is soft, it behaves better. So I love doing my hair at a hotel because it is always a great hair day! I have a Chi Pro Hair Dryer that is awesome and I’ve had it for at least 6 years. I use a heat protectant before I dry and then one before I use another heating tool on it. Also, I don’t wash my hair every day unless it is sweaty or just gross.

  11. Tina-hun you’re doing fantastic with your efforts to get back on track, you’ll get there, remember it took 9 months of body changes.I sooooo adore and love Mr.Murphy, his pics change my mood dramatically if I’m having one of those days where I should of struggled more with my exercise routine, puts me in a happy place and I’ll tend to increase it as the day moves ahead, love ya girl!

  12. Do you use it just to dry your hair, or do you do the proper blow dry thing? I am the former and I just have a Remington travel one with one heat setting and two speeds. It’s actually pretty good for it’s price ($20). What helps quicken up the drying process (I have thick hair) is a product by Cedel in a red bottle (called blow dry quicken I think). It actually works!

Something you could consider is just getting a cheap hair dryer and an expensive hair straightener. I have a ghd Eclipse and it’s amazing. You can use it to do waves (I can rarely be bothered) as well as straighten. It takes 15 mins max to straighten my hair and I usually just let my hair air dry and then straighten in the morning to lessen the heat damage. Something to think about anyway!

  13. PARLUX HAIRDRYER. I am a hairdresser have been for 14 years and have tried them all, its the only way to go. ionic aren’t great for frizzy hair as they make the hair retain moisture. FYI you look amazing.

    1. Hello Sara,

Nice to meet you. Your comment was very interesting for me. I have coarsy medium straight/curly hair. I just got an Elchim 3900 but doesnt like it completely because I think it looks still freezy. Which one would you recommend me? thanks a lot!

  14. I wouldn’t spend too much money on a hair dryer. Save your money and splurge on hair products. I LOVE Living Proof (by Jennifer Aniston) Perfect Hair Day Shampoo and Conditioner along with their styling products. You can buy it at Sephora, Ulta or directly through their website. Since I started using their products, my hair is so much healthier.

  15. I like the Conair Testarossa hairdryer currently sold at Costco. It’s a bit heavier in hand but very powerful. Has two heat controls and two speed controls plus a cool shot. Dries my shoulder length hair fast without burning it too hot. Plus you get a bonus diffuser with it too. I also own the expensive T3 from Sephora which I bought (with regret a few years ago) and I actually prefer the Testarossa at almost a tenth of the price!

  16. I have bought THREE of this model over about 5 years time, because it works so well on my hair.

I require a really hot blow dryer. I have purchased a Chi for big $$$ and found it did not blow enough, nor get hot enough. I returned it!! If a dryer is too cool, it really makes my hair flat and frizzy at the same time (weird but true!). It has to dry my hair quickly. So I recommend trying some of the cheaper models and be sure to take them back if they don’t work well! Keep trying til you find the one!!

  17. I recently read in redbook, that Jennifer Anniston’s hairstylist recommends the cheaper models. He said the more expensive ones tend to get to hot and dry too quickly which often damages hair. Good advice I thought. Plus it made me feel better about my $20 hairdryer that works great.
