Good morning! 😎

I’m getting closer to completing my 30 Healthiest Foods Challenge! I’m only three foods away, but I really need to get on it since February is just about over! Gah, sardines!

Dinner

Last night, I crossed-off kidney beans from the list because I ordered a crock of chili at The Union Brewhouse for dinner. The kidney beans were covered in a thick layer of melted cheese, but they were kidney beans nonetheless!

The Union Brewhouse is my new favorite place. The beer menu is insane and it changes all of the time. I have a feeling you guys will see it A LOT more of it on CNC!

I felt like a kid in a candy shop picking out beers last night. I went with a BBC Steel Rail (Extra Pale Ale) and a Rogue Mocha Porter. Both were excellent.

Dave and Marie were our dates for the evening. Lately, we’ve had completely opposite schedules, so we made it a point to get together last night.

It was so nice to see them!

Question of the Day

When it comes to friends, do you have a lot of acquaintances or just a few close ones? On average, how much time do you spend with your friends each week?

  1. I have a core group of friends that I’ve hung out with for years that I see at a minimum once a week, and then a group of good friends (activity partners) that I see at least once a month. I’m becoming a lot closer to my activity partners of late though, since we spend more time together now that I’m single and not in grad school anymore. I’m a very social person so my friendships mean a lot to me!

  2. I have a few close friends but I have a lot of acquaintances who I see weekly. I keep up with a lot of my close friends by phone but we don’t see each other all that often. Isn’t it funny how that works? Close friends = see sometimes, acquaitances = see more often.

  3. That chili looks amazing and totally counts for kidney beans! There’s a place in Chicago that carries over 250 beers and they give you a little card with your name on it so you can cross off the ones you’ve tried. It’s tempting to try to cross them all off! 😉

  4. I’ve always had a core group of about 4-5 very close friends whom I see weekly, and a large pool of acquaintances who I also see a lot. I make a point to see my friends, because left to my own devices I can get very sucked into “me” time — working late, getting caught up in writing/training/whatever and neglecting my friends, etc.

  5. I highly recommend Alton Brown’s sherried sardines on toast recipe. It’s on the food network website. It definitely converted me to sardines! The lemon juice and avocado really mask the fishy flavor. My favorite kind is the trader joe’s skinless ones in olive oil. They taste less fishy than other ones I’ve tried.

  6. I have been reading your blog for ages now but didn’t know you were doing that challenge – sounds like a good one! I’d say in university I had lots of people I’d call acquaintances, but now it’s more a ‘a few close friends’ situation.

  7. Forget the ice cream, I want to go HERE next weekend. 😉

I have kind of a mix – I have my best friends from high school who I still consider close friends, but don’t talk to all of the time. Then in DSM I have my closest friends who I talk to almost daily, some I talk to maybe weekly, and then some acquaintances I talk to depending on when I see them/what is going on… but as far as actually spending time with them, I’d say maybe a few hours a week depending on the week. I’m so busy lately I don’t get to just hang out very often!

  8. I ‘know’ a lot of people, but only have a few close friends that I spend time with… My husband and I are total home bodies, so we don’t go out with friends often (see my comments a few weeks back about pc gaming 😉 ). I’d say in a week, it’s likely that we only talk to friend in an online game or on the phone… weird, I know! We def see friend a lot more when it’s warm (spring & summer) bc we loooove having bbq’s 😀 – I’d say we see friends at least once a week in the warmer months.

  9. I guess a little bit of both! Good friends!! I’m still friends and actively keep in touch with the people I was friends with in elemenatry school, high school, grad school, running and the gym. It’s important to keep all relationships intact all throughout life!

  10. We are so lucky, we have a great core group of friends – people who have been in our lives for EONS, and always will be. Of course we have other acquaintences that we see regularly, but we see the close ones the most. They are our “family” since neither my husband and I have siblings in the city we live in.

  11. I feel incredibly blessed to have quite a large circle of close friends. I am probably social 3 – 4 nights a week (I’m a total extrovert) doing things like tea/yoga/dessert/dinner/hiking/running/concerts and the occasional party (but it’s much, much rarer).

My boyfriend is an introvert, and I think after 5 years we’ve finally come to a great place where both of our needs are balanced. I am usually social with him a few times a week and then the rest without!

  12. I have a couple of dear friends but we all have very busy lives, young children and several hundred miles between us. This makes getting together difficult. I do have many, many good acquaintances though. I truly do appreciate these people in my life and miss them when they go away.

  13. I have a lot of virtual acquaintances 😉 But in real life, I mostly just have a few really close friends. I like to build really solid, real relationships with people I know I trust and relate to instead of having lots of surface relationships.

  14. Hey

I got 7 very good friends for almost 30 years some are married and there partners are my friends too. We do not see each other very much.( busy ) But when I got problems and I call them and they help me…I think we in the Netherland have a different meaning about friendship..We are more calvenistisch..
I think your recipes are very good

  15. I have both. I have my closest buds from high school (a whopping 2 plus my sister!), pals form my old job I still keep in contact with, old friends from the college days I see from time to time, friends of friends that have become my friends, and my blog-made pals 🙂

  16. i only have one friend that i see pretty often, and it’s b/c we’re working on a script together right now. otherwise, most of my friends are scattered and not friends with one another so i see them on their own. maybe once a month, if we’re lucky.

  17. I would say both. I have my close friends that have known me for a while and know who I really am, and those “friends” who I meet and hang out with but don’t really connect to. Authentic relationships are really important to me, and I realize that not everyone is like me in that sense, so I tend to really connect with those with the same values and just have leisurely fun with those who don’t.

  18. I’d definitely say I have a few close friends. I know a lot of people, but being in college, that’s bound to happen. I used to have a ton of acquaintances, but it seems that when you get down to it, it’s more important to have just a few people you trust. 🙂

  19. I have a few very close friends and then a few close friends. Now that I moved away from college there are only a few friends that I am in contact with on a weekly basis. Many of my other friends I am only in contact with once a month or less.

  20. did you know that some ceasar salad dressings are made with anchovies. so you could eat them and not really have to eat them
