Labor Day

Hey there!

Hi, there! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Mal’s afternoon adventure took us to Marylou’s Coffee!

I’ve lived on the South Shore for nearly 5 years now and have never once tried Marylou’s Coffee. Apparently, I was really missing out!

Mal has been raving about theย Girl Scout Cookie iced coffee for weeks now, so he finally took me to try it this afternoon. It tastes just like Thin Mint cookies!! It was delicious, but too sweet for me, so I only drank about half of it. I still really enjoyed the iced coffee and want to go back to try other flavors! ๐Ÿ˜€

We spent the rest of the afternoon sitting outside, sipping our iced coffees, and doing crossword puzzles.

It was a nice way to spend Labor Day.

We also listened to a bunch of Toucher & Rich podcasts and got a little silly with the pug.

Murphy, what’s up with all of this extra skin?

Dad, seriously? Get it together.

These two crack me up! ๐Ÿ˜†

For dinner, I tried a new recipe from Real Simple: Creamy Fettuccine With Leeks, Corn, and Arugula.

This meal turned out wonderfully and took just 20 minutes to cook– just like the recipe said it would. Don’t you hate it when recipes say the meal will take 30 minutes, but then it takes more than an hour to cook (e.g. Rachel Ray)?! ๐Ÿ‘ฟ This one really took 20 minutes to make from start to finish.

Like always, I didn’t follow the recipe exactly. I used low-fat milk instead of heavy cream, grated Parmesan instead of pecorino, spaghetti instead of fettuccine, and 15 ounces of canned corn instead of one cup. (What can I say, we like corn in this house! ;-))

The recipe called for dry white wine, so I poured myself a small glass to go with dinner. I mean, the bottle was already opened! ๐Ÿ˜‰

And, for dessert, I enjoyed one of these:

Oh, yes. Sometimes, my husband has reallyย bad good ideas! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I hope you had a wonderful Labor Day! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

  1. That pasta dish looks amazing, I will definitely be trying that soon!
Also, Thin mint iced coffee sounds like it should be illegal, and since I don’t live near Boston I’ll just have to resort to making my own and pretending it’s as good, haha.

  2. 1. Love your blog! 2. Has anyone ever told you Mal looks alot like Daniel Craig?? I think he does!! (that’s a compliment btw) ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. That Marylou’s is down the street from my house! Too bad I had my coffee in today or maybe I would have bumped into you!

My favorite is the milk chocolate almond or when it’s chilly outside, the blueberry crumb cake (I think I have a pound of it in my pantry). YUM!

And the pasta dish looks fab, I have had corn so much lately… it’s SO good right now!

    Great blog ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. OHMYGOD DONUTS. That sounds like absolutely the PERFECT way to spend an afternoon. Going to check out that podcast now! (And why DO pugs have so much skin?)

  5. What a nice way to spend Labor Day! It’s fun to have bbq’s & go to the beach, but sometimes it’s nice to just relax on a holiday weekend.

  6. Thin mint iced coffee and amazing pasta salad! That just sounds like awesome food to me :)!

I love that last pic of your husband and the dog. Totally cute.

  7. I can’t stand Marylou’s and their dumb commercials with the girls shaking their wares for the men to come get their coffees. I don’t like their coffee either. I love love love me some Toucher & Rich though. I think you know that ๐Ÿ™‚
Looks like you had a fun day!

  8. Marylous coffee is amazing! when i went to bridgewater state there was a small one inside a gas station.. i went every single day, i think it single handedly made my coffee addiction SO much worse! lol
seeing your post about it makes me want to go there!!!

    congrats on the house!!

  9. I live for girl scout cookie season…a thin mint flavored coffee? I’m sold. I must admit though, I’ve always been kind of a coffee snob and have refused to try Mary Lou’s for this reason but I’m going to definitely try this one! (btw, if you’re a south shore girl and have never tried it, stop by the Coffee Break Cafe, there is one in quincy center and one in Braintree and they have a lot of delicious flavored coffee)

  10. Sounds like you had a nice & relaxing Labor Day!! And that coffee sounds really good. I actually prefer my coffee overly sweet, so I would probably like it haha!

  11. GIRL SCOUT COOKIE COFFEE??? That sounds AMAZING. Marylou’s looks so adorable too… what a great advertisement for them ๐Ÿ™‚

Have you tried Starbucks’ Toffee Mocha installation? It’s literally like liquid candy…I liked the frappuccino version better than the hot version (the hot version was MUCH too sweet… not like the frappuccino version is any better but whatever)… anyway, I’m not sure if you like Starbucks but figured I’d shoot a recommendation your way since I’m taking all your recommendations to heart, myself!
