Joyriding at Jordan’s

Quinn had his first joyride yesterday!

(I realize “joyride” typically refers to stealing or recklessly driving a car, but I assure you, Quinn drove responsibly and purely for enjoyment.)

Rewind to Christmastime

My mom wanted to update her living room, so she talked about getting new slipcovers for her couch and loveseat. My sister and I considered buying them for her as a Christmas present, but then we agreed that slipcovers just wouldn’t cut it. Both her couch and loveseat were a good 20 years old with sagging cushions and virtually no support. Long story short, we decided to buy her new furniture and got her a gift card to Jordan’s Furniture, which was much more exciting than slipcovers and she was totally pumped!

Insert an insane winter + nearly 109 inches of snow

Yesterday, we finally visited Jordan’s to pick out my mom’s new furniture! Hooray!

We ended up going to the Reading location because it has all sorts of fun stuff in addition to furniture, including “Beantown,” a replica of downtown Boston made up of nearly twenty-five million Jelly Belly jelly beans, an IMAX 3D theater, and a Fuddruckers. You could seriously spend the whole day there!

As soon as we walked into Jordan’s, we saw a bunch of taxi carts to drive the kiddos around in. And, of course, Quinn wanted to go for a ride.

Despite his face in the photos below, I swear he liked it. Haha!

Crusin’ with Grandma!

My mom did her research ahead of time, so she already had a vision for her living room. She just wanted to see the options in person and test them out firsthand.

Cousins playing! So cute!

My mom ended up going with the couch below, but in navy blue, and she opted for a chair instead of the matching loveseat because it fit better in her living room. I can’t wait to see them in her house in a few weeks!

After shopping, we hit up Fuddruckers for lunch.

The saleswoman, who helped my mom, recommended the salmon, so that’s what I ordered. It was really good, especially with a little salsa and honey mustard on top. Delish!

Questions of the Day

What’s the last thing you bought for your home?

How many cousins do you have?

Do you like salmon?

  1. I just bought a big palm plant for my dining room. I’m not sure what I was thinking though, because I bought it online and paid at least twice as much as I should have. I saw some in Home Depot this weekend and have felt sick about it ever since. I’m an idiot.

My mom is one of nine and my dad one of six so I have a TON of cousins. 40-something, I think!!! It’s the best.

    Salmon = wonderful.

  2. That place looks so cool! All the furniture places are me are so boring. I would spend hours there!

I have a really small family and only have 4 cousins (3 on one side and 1 on the other). They all live really far away from me too. I was always jealous of people who had huge families that lived nearby! I only have one sister as well, so I was always bored at family events growing up.

Salmon is my absolute favorite fish! Your food looks so good and I might have to try a salsa next time I make salmon. Trader Joe’s makes a great mango one!

  3. this is sort of daring, but we ordered 90% of our house furniture online. i can’t be bothered going to a store and don’t have a large car to transport things! most of the stuff we ordered online actually turned out wonderfully. hoorah for online shopping 🙂

  4. I have ten first cousins. Most are like siblings to me (there are like two that I could do without). I like to say that my mom’s side did the two-children nuclear family thing, but then my mom broke the mold because instead of having a son and a daughter, she had two daughters. And we’re a bit more creative and out there than everyone else, so it fits.
I haven’t been to Fuddruckers since college (the one in Omaha isn’t convenient). But I always liked getting a footlong, and dipping my fries in Honey Mustard. Yum!

  5. That looks like a fun outing!

The last thing I bought for our home was a spiralizer! Gotta love kitchen appliances! 🙂 I have 8 cousins but sadly most of them lived far away when I was growing up. We’ve gotten closer as we’ve gotten older though. We LOVE salmon in our household. We try to get it at least every other week from Whole Foods or a local fish market.

  6. Quinn is just so cute! I love the pics of him in the car where his little hand is on the steering wheel. Just adorable. 🙂

  7. I love how your blog has evolved!!! Tina you da best.
I have read your blog for 2 years faithfully and enjoy everything about it – the variety the insight to many exercise options and your approach to healthy living.

BUT I have to say – even though my kids are teenagers – Quinn is the cutest thing going. I love his face, his eyes are beautiful and man he’s just cute!

    Thanks for sharing your life.
PS: Don’t forget to include more on poor ole Murphy. lol

  8. Most of my furniture comes from Craigslist! I have gotten a burgundy leather set for a steal and many antiques from there. I only buy what I can wash down, but I have gotten so many great things from C.L but you have to be patient. I waited for 2 years to find 2 Crewel Wingback chairs but I found them, almost new, and for pennies compared to stores.

I wish I liked salmon cuz it’s so good for you, but I hate it.

  9. Last thing we bought was a King size bed and temper-pedic mattress when I was 7 months pregnant, it was glorious!

I have 9 cousins but they are 10 years older or younger than I am so we aren’t very close. I’m hoping my sister has a baby soon so Bryce will have a cousin his age! No pressure though 😉

I LOVE salmon, especially cooked with Asian flavors! It’s so easy to cook and its good leftover on salads!

  10. Hi Tina! Quinn is so cute! My two year old is now riding in those cars attached to the shopping carts at the market and loves it!

I lived in Charelstown quite a while ago and was on a day long shopping trip with a friend down on the south shore etc and we went to a Jordan’s furniture I think near Fall River and went on a ride called MOM i think? LOL I thought it was so funny a furniture store had a ride! I remember going to the Christmas Tree Store that day too – wish we had more of them around DC.

Such a nice gift for your mom!

  11. Salmon is a must fix meal in our house every week. You should try making guacamole and putting it on top. DELISH!

I am the oldest of 17 cousins and the only one married with kids. The others are all still in high school and I changed all of their diapers. I feel more like an aunt and wish we were closer in age to have been able to play like your son and his cousin. Now I am watching them all go through high school!

  12. I love how you include so much of your personal day to day life on the blog. I couldn’t really do that on mine because it would sound like office space and I don’t want my coworkers reading what I have to day about them. Ha! They’re really pretty awesome but the daily grind isn’t that exciting.

  13. fun water show too! and imax! Jordan’s is really a great rainy day place for the kids! you’ll find yourself there again (and mall playgrounds too!) when it’s dreary out and you’re out of ideas and the kids need to run around and and don’t want to wreck your house!

  14. I can’t really remember the last decorative piece we bought for our home…a blanket maybe? Haha… I am hoping to go to some rummage/yard/garage sales this summer to find some nice outdoor furniture! Altogether…I have 14 cousins on my dad’s side and 6 on my mom’s side.

  15. My Husband recently bought a Pannini press, my stepson and the hubby use it constantly. I found I just don’t like squished sandwiches. But they love them, and find them to be extra special, so at least the machine wasn’t a waste of money.

I love Salmon, and we eat it at least once a week. Usually with a dill and mayo mixture spread on top.
I have about 8 cousins, maybe more, but we aren’t a close family and I really don’t know them at all.

  16. I love salmon and I used to eat it everyday for lunch a couple years ago. I may have had a problem…

My husband actually just bought a new home audio system that was delivered yesterday. He had a blast hooking it all up and fiddling. It definitely sounds better, but Im glad he dealt with it bc I would have no idea what I am doing!

  17. We bought couches for our upstairs living room and our basement. We ended up going to the store 4-5 times before we purchased them. I have to be sure when purchasing something big since it is going to be there for years!

  18. We just bought our condo in Charlestown and I can’t wait to decorate with new furniture. A giftcard would definitely come in handy, great Christmas idea 😉 Last thing we bought was a navy blue couch from Ikea!

  19. I just bought 4 new parson’s chairs for my dining room table.

I have 10 cousins on my Mom’s side and 6 that I know of on my Dad’s side plus a few that I’ve never met from an uncle that we lost touch with. I have about a million second and third cousins. Huge Italian family!!

I LOVE Salmon! It’s best in a restaurant, I can never get it to taste that good at home.

I haven’t been to Fuddrucker’s in forever! It used to be a tradition in my family many years ago to go there every New Year’s Day (cousins and all!). They closed a lot of them down but those were fun times!
