Hi, friends! Sorry to leave you hanging about my exciting news, but it’s for a good reason since it involves my news. You ready?
I’ve spent the past two days at a live workshop with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) to get some hands-on experience with client assessment, exercise technique, and program design. Do you see where I am going with this? That’s right, friends, I’m studying to get my personal trainer certification through NASM!
This certification has actually been a long time coming. Remember when I studied for the NASM exam back in 2009, but never took the test? There have been a bunch of times over the years that I thought about studying for it again, but the time was never right. Well, the time is right now!
I started studying again for the NASM exam in late-August, so I plan to take it (and pass!) before the end of the year. I want to use my new fitness knowledge and credentials to better CNC, specifically by writing more fitness-focused posts and creating some really awesome workouts to share. I also want to do some personal training on the side.
Phew. I’m so glad that I finally told you guys. I felt like I was keeping a big secret! I’m on my lunch break right now, so I have to get back to the workshop, but I’ll be sure to keep you guys in the loop about getting my personal trainer certification and future plans. I’m excited!

Woo, so exciting!! Congrats- this seems like a great move for you. š
AH! This is such an exciting move, Tina! Congrats!
How cool! I’m so excited for you! And I can’t wait to read more fitness related posts on CNC. š
Very cool! I love doing personal training–it is so fun! Good luck š
That’s great news Tina! Congratulations!
That is so awesome! You are perfect for that job! I wish you the best of luck!!!
Thank you! š
Congrats! I cannot think of anyone else I’d rather have as a personal trainer :). Do you think you’ll ever do “personal training coaching” for clients that aren’t nearby? I wish you the best.
I’d love to! I just need to figure out how it would work. Any ideas? What type of training program are you looking for?
@Tina: I listen to several running podcasts and a few of the people have recommended these coaches: http://prsfitlive.com/. I have been running for a couple of years, but I’m slow as can be. I’ve lost 35 pounds, but still have more to lose. I want to increase speed, distance and eventually train for a half and full (ultras sound appealing too). I’m 42, so I’m getting on up there :). But…age is just a number right?
Hi, my name is Sasha, found your blog through another healthy living blog, not sure which one but this is my first time commenting on your blog so I wanted to introduce myself. Its fun to read your blog and I love Murphy. š
I just got certified from NASM in July a couple weeks after going to a workshop and it really helped me make sense of what I studied. Are you using the study materials you can buy? The online practice exams really helped me too!!! Best of luck to you for your exam.
Congrats, that’s so exciting – Best of Luck!! I think you’d be a great personal trainer & I’m happy I live locally…. hmm, maybe some personal training (from you) will be in my future! š
I think you should! š
Congrats!! That is awesome š
good for you Tina! that’s exciting! good luck!!
I am so excited for you!! I just tried out your 3 and 5’s treadmill run and LOVED it! I’m looking forward to more running/workout-based posts!
Woah – Good Luck on the test Tina! I’m sure you’re going to rock that the same way you’ve conquered marathons and training and everything else. š
That’s exciting! I’ll be looking forward to reading your strength training workouts. I had a trainer for 9 months (a gift from a friend) but it ran out in June and I am slowly losing my muscle because I hate strength training on my own. I’m still a little uncomfortable in the weights area and I’m not motivated unless I have someone there telling me what to do. I would love some routines to get me back into lifting weights again. š
Congrats Tina, I’m looking fwd to this new avatar of C’n’C
Wow, what great news! You are always striving for more; what an inspiration!
Wow! Congrats! Keep us posted!!
Congratulations on your decision! It’ll be great to read some articles on CnC related to your new certification š
What made you choose NASM over other personal trainer certifications? I’m looking into getting mine but I’m so confused over which program to go through.
Yay! I am so excited for you! Congrats! And you will do great on the test…:)
Congrats!! That is awesome! I’m sure you will do great on the test. Best of luck! š
That’s so exciting!!! congrats! Can’t wait to hear more š
Congrats! We need more fabulous trainers š
I completely understand and have been in the same boat for a couple years. I bought everything from NASM two years ago and studied, but life got in the way and I haven’t take the actual test yet! It was on my list of things to do over this summer, but again, life is getting in the way and I don’t think I’ll actually get to take the test until next year some time.
Good luck though! I know you’ll pass with flying colors.
I’m late to the party on this one but just wanted to say CONGRATS – very exciting! Good luck with the exam, I’m studying for it too and it’s definitely a big undertaking.
Congrats, Tina! That’s SO awesome!! š
That is so awesome!!! That will be great to see more fitness stuff here too, and knowing it comes from a trainer. Excited for you!!!

That is so awesome! I am excited for you. I had thought about maybe doing this as well. I am not sure what is all involved with it tho or how much a personal trainer could make. I would love to do this kind of thing as a job but would it allow me to live the way I do now…….Please keep us posted. I just love you blog and Murphy is just the cutest thing ever!
ooooh this is something I’ve always wanted to do! Keep us updated!
That’s so exciting!
I have been thinking about becoming a PT myself. Keep us posted on all the steps and how it goes.
I just took the ACSM exam! Let me know if you need any help or advice!
First off I want to say wonderful blog! I
had a quick question in which I’d like to ask if you do not mind. I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your head prior to writing. I have had a tough time clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out. I do take pleasure in writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any ideas or tips? Thanks!
