Independence Day Beer Pentathlon

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Mal and I have a great group of friends. They’re nice people and they’re always up for something fun– like a Beer Pentathlon!

When everyone arrived at my in-laws house, we organized the Beer Pentathlon. Mal and I had an idea what we wanted to do, but we figured getting everyone’s input would make the event a lot more fun. We ended up having five teams of two competing in five different beer games.

For the five events, we picked: Cornhole, Polish Horseshoes, Beruit, Flip Cup, and Dizzy Bat.

The first event of the day was Cornhole. Mal was my partner and we started off really strong by winning two games.

For Polish Horseshoes, however, we didn’t do as well. Actually, we got killed. 😕

These guys were nasty! They were easily the Polish Horseshoe winners and crushed everyone.

After two rounds of games, we took a break to cool off and fire-up the grill.

It was so hot yesterday, even Murphy went in the pool!

Pug pool party! 😀

The grill:

For dinner, I had grilled portabella caps.

Salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, red bell peppers, and Romano cheese.

Cold white bean salad with red onion, spinach, and Athenos feta.

My plate had a little bit of everything, including a piece of grilled pineapple, which was SO yummy! I also ate like a million Doritos over the course of the day.

Team Haupert!

After halftime, we started on the next event, which was Beruit. Mal and I did okay, but a couple of the other teams were much better.

Flip Cup was intense… and hilarious! 😆

Again, Mal and I did pretty well, but we didn’t win.

After Flip Cup, we decided that we had enough to drink, so we didn’t end up playing Dizzy Bat. (We’re getting old!) Even still, it was such a fun time. We’ll definitely do again!

If you’re wondering, Dave and Marie were the ultimate Beer Pentathlon winners!! They’re really good at beer games! 😀

And this post would not be complete without mentioning our enthusiastic and supportive spectators at the Independence Day Beer Pentathlon:

Murphy! 😀

Yesterday was awesome! I loved being outside, playing games, and hanging out with good friends. My body, however, needs a serious detox! Back on track today.

How was your 4th of July?

  1. A beer pentathalong?!? THAT is a great idea! Glad you had a good fourth!

Tina, we were just in Boston, and we stayed at the CUTEST dog-friendly hotel– the Nine Zero! They offer dog spa treatments, if Murphy is ever in need of a massage 🙂

  2. What a great outdoor party! Looks like seriously so much fun, with the grilling and everything 😀 You guys are awesome. 😀

    Happy 4th! 🙂

  3. That looks like so much fun! I’m not a huge beer drinker, but would be very into a party like that. I’ll have to remember that for some of our group get togethers…and for when I can drink again. I don’t think it would be so fun pregnant. LOL

  4. What a great idea to have the beer games…..although the kids usually out number the adults at our parties. Fun times 🙂 We went to a friend’s (a fellow dairy family) house for a bbq and some waterslide action. I somehow made it to bootcamp this morning at 5:30.
Murphy is SO cute in the pool….Love it!

  5. I won’t lie, the game being called “cornhole” kind of makes me giggle. I played washers back in Missouri, and now that I live in Chicago, we play the same version you do, but just call it “bags”.

Glad you had a great holiday! 🙂

  6. I was in Boston visiting a friend this weekend and that 4th of July celebrations on the Charles were AMAZING. The fireworks were unreal. I checked your restaurant reviews in Beacon Hill before I left and noticed that you haven’t been to Figs, or maybe you have without a review? Its on Charles St and its great. Fig and proschiotto on thin crust pizza…I’m still dreaming about it. We had it twice!

  7. I absolutely LOVE your games! I think I may have to incorporate all of those into an upcoming party that they hubby and I are having at the end of the month. Flip cup is such a crazy game, isn’t it? I love it – so intense, but super fun! Looks like you had a blast! 🙂

  8. It looks like you had a blast. Me, I slept until 9 a.m., then had a variation on your OOIAJ for breakfast. Also tried something new for lunch (from Green Lite Bites) and tried to get some writing done on my novel. Ended up with a headache, so I napped before heading to work to lay out an entire Monday A section of the paper by myself.

  9. Grilled pineapple is good!! (Initially it sounds kind of odd.)

My husband and I went hiking outside of Anchorage, Alaska (We live there.) and then went to his parent’s cabin.

  10. I’ve just recently started reading your blog and am usually a lurker but when I saw that you made a day out of beer sports I just had to comment and say that it looks AWESOME! I think my favorite beer game of all time is flip cup 🙂

I’m glad that you had a great 4th and I totally agree that weekends should always be three days!

  11. Sounds like a great time!! I always love the beer Olympics, so much fun! I spent my 4th of July running a 10k in the morning and hanging out with my family the rest of the night, it was a great day!

  12. Beer Olympics… always a good idea! Crazy funny to see all the different names you have for beer games on the east coast. Beruit=Beer Pong, Flip Cup=Tippy Cup, Cornhole=Bean Bag Toss, Polish Horseshoes I have never heard of, it sounds interesting though!! Sounds like you had a fantastic fourth!!

  13. I love that you call “beer pong” Beirut! People down south here have no idea what I’m talking about when I tell them that in New England we call it Beirut! I was taught the right way at UNH 🙂
