Hi, friends!
This morning, I made a couple of CrossFit videos with Sarah, YouTube extraordinaire and the blogger behind Sarah Fit. Sarah and I go way backββshe’s actually one of the first bloggers I ever met. We met for froyo during one of my lunch breaks back when I worked at Harvard, and we’ve been friends ever since.
I have to admit, when Sarah contacted me about doing a CrossFit video, I almost turned her down. I am super awkward on camera (and, ok, in person, too), so I wasn’t sure I’d be any good in a video. But Sarah reminded me of our work together in the past, and she assured me I’d be great. I do love CrossFit a whole lot, so I was happy to help her out.
Breakfast
Before Sarah arrived, I fueled up with a couple of slices of toast with Mighty Maple peanut butter and banana slices.
The Might Maple was so delicious, I went back for a third slice. I mean, it’s maple peanut butter… hello!
A little while later, Sarah and her camera woman, Rachel, arrived at my house. We filmed both videos in my backyard. Mal will probably die when I tell him this because he says our backyard is an βembarrassmentβΒ because of its patchy grass. Ha!
Sarah and I chatted about the game plan for the videos while Rachel went outside to set up her equipment. A short while later, I found Murphy working his pug magic on her.
Free pug therapy to all!
The actual videos didn’t take long to film at all. Of course, there were a few retakes. I’m guilty of um-ing like crazy on camera, and I also tend to trip over my words and say weird things when I’m nervous. However, we managed to film the second video (CrossFit FAQs) in just one take, so I guess I started to relax a little bit. Murphy also made a cameo in it, so that calmed me down too.
The videos should be on Sarah’s YouTube channel next week, so I’ll be sure to link to them when they’re live.
Snack
After I said goodbye to Sarah and Rachel, I made a gluten-free bagel with whipped cream cheese spread on top.
These Against the Grain Gourmet bagels are really good. I liked both the flavor and texture, and I would definitely buy them again. FYI: They are pretty expensive at Whole Foods ($8 for 6), so they’re a special, not an everyday purchase.
And now I’m off to run 8 miles! Gotta enjoy this beautiful weather while I can!
Questions of the Day

OMGosh I’m scared to death of the camera and public speaking. I would love to squash it and get more comfortable with it one of these days.
Me too!
I’m sooo awkward on camera so I feel you there! I’m embarrassed to look back on the film afterwards, like who is that girl? haha You guys look beautiful and I’m sure you kicked ass showing off CF skills!!
Aww, thanks! I hope Sarah has some great editing skills! Γ°ΕΈΛβ°
I’m the worst on camera! I always forget my brain!!!!
Me too!
I do the same thing on camera! You would think after making weekly videos it gets easier, but not for me. I’m a total geek in front of the camera!
I’m sure you did great, can’t wait to see them!
I have never made a video before, but I feel I would be the same way. I am pretty awkward in general, so placing a camera in my face with magnify that much more! Can’t wait to see the video on YouTube!
I’ve been reading your blog for a while now and I absolutely love it. I live in Central Mass and just started CrossFit about 3 months ago. This might be a strange question, especially for those of us who are definitely trying to build muscle, but my traps are getting huge (like Hulk Hogan style). I love what it is doing to my body in every other way, but I was just wondering if you have ever had any issues with one particular muscle group growing at what seems like an excessive rate. I truthfully feel guilty bringing it up to my coaches because I’m pretty sure people work their tails of for muscle gain like this and maybe I’m just getting exactly what I asked for. Thanks for any insight or tips you might have. I’m NOT willing to give up CrossFit, but I also have nightmares about looking like I’m wearing football pads in a wedding dress someday!!
I think people just put on muscle in different places and at different rates, mostly because of genetics, so if you do CrossFit, I’m not sure you can really prevent it. Personally, I just embrace my bulky muscles… even ifmy jeans are getting really tight! Haha! Think of all the cool stuff you can do at CF!
I’m sure you were fannnntastic! Can’t wait to see the videos. I used to work with Sarah – I know she made sure you looked great. π
Being on camera makes me really aw too and I feel like I always look (and sound?) different!
Can’t wait to see the videos!!
Thank you for making me want to leave my desk and immediately go buy that Mighty Maple PB, oh my gosh that looks so good!! Can’t wait to see the video, I’m sure you did great!
I was so happy when I saw your Instagram pic. I hope that’s not creepy. I’m excited to see the videos — I love Sarah’s blog/videos. I also think I am awkward on camera but I was a broadcast journalism minor at Emerson so I definitely have experience!
Oh gosh, I got picked to do a promo interview that aired for the first hour that our news network launched in August! I was SO nervous to see how it was on air…nothing like having the world watching you!
Apparently (not to brag because it certainly didn’t feel that way) I interview well and am articulate but was sweating bullets and crazy scared to do it!
are you finding the Gluten free to help with your IBS, I have crohn’s and I hear a lot of people say it makes a difference so I’m thinking next time I see my GI asking him if its worth giving it a go.
I’m always surprised at how squeaky my voice is! The last time was for a social media video with SAP…I actually have it up on my site here – http://peachypalate.com/social-media/ Down the bottom of the page! Man my hair was soooooo long back then!
The blog world makes it so easy to look cool! I’d be SO scared to jump into the video blogging world! Not to mention I don’t know if anyone would want to see it! haha
8 miles – a nice mid week run! I seriously am WAY more excited to run now that the weather here is cooling off a bit!
Ha! I’m a total nerd on camera. I become hyper-aware of my facial expressions and make really strange faces, lol. I LOVE Sarah Dussault and I watch ALL her vids, so I’m super stoked to see yours when she posts it! I’m sure you were amazing π
Sarah is seriously one of my favorite fitness bloggers and I love her videos!! She’s one of the first fitness bloggers along with you I discovered. Can’t wait to see your video with her! And I’m super awkward on camera. I tried to do a blog for an internship and filmed for about half a day. I never had a good clean clip so I trashed the blog idea haha
How fun!
I think I’m usually fine on camera–but I haaaaaatttee watching it after b/c my voice sounds so cray & so not me.
Mmmm bagels & cream cheese are a fave of mine–esp at the beginning of my pregnancy.
Mighty Maple is my favorite!
Maple peanut butter?! Heading to the grocery store…
Way to get past your fear and go for it! I also HATE being on camera, so I feel ya. How is it that I love maple and peanut butter, yet did not know that maple pb exists? Yum!
awesome!! we look forward to the video π
If i am just talking to someone I am ok but if I have to just speak to the camera I blink like crazy and make odd faces. It’s weird.
Hi Tina. Your yard looks fine. I have 3 dogs, they are hard on the grass! I never knew about all the nut butter’s until I started reading your site. Love them all! Thanks for all the recipes that you post. The pumpkin spice latte smoothie is wonderful, made one last night!!
I’d be so awkward too. I feel like everyone is unless they do it all the time? Can’t wait to see the video!
Sounds like you had a lot of fun making the video! I totally get being nervous on camera, it’s really weird even doing FaceTime sometimes. Plenty of ums and ahs. I gotta find some of that maple peanut butter! Sounds delish.
I can be really awkward in front of the camera especially when I talk. When it comes to doing just movements I am okay. I’m working on this though. Baby steps…right! I made a couple of videos a month or so ago and planning on making some more this weekend. π
Wow – that’s awesome! Can’t wait to see your videos!! Love you both π
I think if I were to be on video (which I never really am!) I would probably do a lot of umm-ing and I’d be a little embarassed. I’m not a shy person but there’s something about watching yourself on camera…it’s weird to me!
PS – whipped cream cheese is everything!

I just ramble on and on…I’m on the PTA board at my kids’ school, and we make a beginning of year video..oh, I ramble and ramble!
Thanks for writing about your bagels! I can actually eat them and will be out searching for baguettes and bagels this weekend π haven’t had bread in over six months. I’m allergic to most gluten free products. Thanks!
Can’t wait to see the videos!! I can be super awkward in photos and on camera too I’m sure π
Well done for doing it, sure they turned out great!
oohhh you CAN NOT BE AS AWKWARD AS I.
when I did my Fila real woman model shoot I was like elaine—THUMB DANCING—from seinfeld.
Haha! I’m sure you were great!
Dude, FOMO. I hope no fun was had without me.
I’m so out of the loop. Just had to Google FOMO. We missed you!
Hi Tina,
I was having a conversation with my boyfriend the other night while watching the ESPN Crossfit games on TV. We got into a debate about supplement use and what is/is not allowed for all participants during the competition. Could you do a post on that? Just curious… I don’t know if any of your Crossfit buds take supplements or use HGH?
Thanks!
Senika
I’m sure you did way better than you think! I actually don’t mind being on camera, but I always hear my voice after and think, ‘is that actually what my voice sounds like?’ I just recently discovered maple almond butter, so now I guess I need to try the PB kind too!
I love PB&Co peanut butter…. i actually have 4 varieties of it in my cabinet right now. whoops! I’ve been filming video’s for my blog (a whole post on burpees with videos and a booty burner demo video) and I love it! Since I teach classes, I think it makes me feel less awkward on video? who knows!
Are you purely gluten-free now?
There is this great website, huzzaz.com, where you can keep all your crossfit videos in one place and organize them however you want. It’s like pinterest for videos!
