Hey, friends!

How is it already August already?! It seems like the summer months were just beginning – yet somehow we are already counting down the final weeks before Mal heads back to school. I mean, hey, it’s kind of a bummer, but all we can do is make the most of the rest of summer.

So, I’m back with another edition of What I’m Loving Lately with a few fun end-of-summer finds and other goodies to check out. I hope you enjoy it, and please let me know what YOU are loving lately! I feel like so many of my usual commenters have went MIA. I totally get it, but would still love to hear from ya! 🙂

Trader Joe’s Coconut Cold Brew + vanilla-flavored Ripple – You guys know how obsessed I am with my iced coffee. I love mixing up my combos and trying new add-ins or cold brew flavors, and this one has totally hit the spot lately! Trader Joe’s never lets me down and certainly didn’t disappoint with this coconut concentrate. Just add in a few splashes of creamy vanilla Ripple, and it’s the perfect start to my day. Plus, I love the added plant-based protein in my iced coffee! 🙂

Primally Pure Charcoal Deodorant – If you watched my IG Live video about my favorite deodorant, I raved about this one, but noted that it was expensive. It does last quite a while, but it’s still expensive at $22. Since then, I tried two other natural deodorants and pretty much hated them because they didn’t work and left white stuff on my clothes and body (eww!), so I’m back to Primally Pure. If you sign up for a subscription, you get free shipping, so I’m getting a new one every 6 weeks. I swear, this stuff is WORTH the extra money!

Broccoli Fritters – I love a good fritter recipe, and this recipe quickly made my “to try” list. These look so easy to make – just throw together for a fun side dish!

Cotton pullover sweater with pointelle stitching – Loving this sweater for late summer! And you can save 30% off with code SHOPNOW!

12 IUD Side Effects You Should Know About – Very interesting!

Brooks Hyperion – I have loved and used so many Brooks shoes over the years and for good reason. They are such great quality and really keep aches and pains at bay. These Brooks Hyperion are especially great for running workouts at CrossFit. I’ve been wearing them non-stop lately. They’re super comfy and flexible, but sturdy for lifting and other CF movements like box jumps, wall balls and KB swings. However, FYI, they are not great for rope climbs. I learned this the hard way and totally tore the sole. Oops! Stick to running WODs with these babies! 🙂

Justin’s Mini White Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cups – I’ve always been a fan of Justin’s product, so when they sent me a box of goodies last week, I couldn’t wait to dive in. And, truthfully, I don’t normally love white chocolate, but these babies are a new favorite FOR SURE. We keep the bag in the fridge, and they’re the perfect mini treat when I want something sweet after dinner. They’re rich and delicious and hit the spot, which means I don’t need to eat half the bag to feel satisfied!

Beautycounter Dew Skin with SPF 15 –  I love this skin product for the summer and always throw it on before the gym or running errands. It has SPF and a little bit of tint, so it’s super easy for summer skin. I wear a No. 2 for the shade, and it blends perfectly.

Mediation for Fidgety Skeptics – I just learned about this new book from Dan Harris and immediately ordered it. It arrived yesterday, and I’m so pumped to really dive in. NBC news anchor and author of 10% Happier (you might have heard me mention the book a few hundred times now!) wrote a humorous reply to all sorts of reasons why you can’t meditate, which is PERFECT for me. I am so THAT person, and I’m still not sure if I actually will meditate, but everyone says I’d love it since my brain never stops. I’ll be sure to report back!

Crossbody buckle bag in Italian suede – Loving this bag for fall! It would go with everything! It’s also 30% off right now with code SHOPNOW!

Stainless steel tumblers + straws – Quinn and I are absolutely loving our transition from plastic water bottles, sippy cups, and straws to these stainless steel ones. I wrote a blog post last week about why we decided to make the switch, and I do not miss throwing away tons of straws or worrying about the amount of plastic we are using. These are so easy to wash and reuse, not to mention it feels good to be a bit more eco-friendly – small steps make a difference! Plus, Quinn looks all sorts of grown up with his little steel tumbler on his way to school! 😉

  1. I love dan Harris! I actually just read a book called bliss more by light Watkins and loved it – I would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a super easy meditation book- hes also the meditation teacher to a lot in Hollywood!

  2. Have you tried the broccoli & cauliflower ‘fritters’ at Trader Joe’s? They have a carrot/pea one too, but the broccoli/cauliflower one is my favourite. They’re in the frozen food aisle beside the veggie burgers. I don’t believe they’re labeled as fritters, but they seem similar to your above idea!

  3. I’ve got to get my hands on that TJ’s coconut cold brew. I usually make my own with their beans, but I need this. After ALL of July and the first week or so of August without shopping in TJ’s, come August 8th I’ll be back once we move into our new house in California! I can’t wait to stock my fridge full of TJ’s products. It’s the little things. – Kaitlyn | http://www.poweredbysass.com

  4. Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel! This is my favorite drug store face moisturizer. It has been great for summer sun kissed skin to re-hydrate after a day outside!

  5. I just bought a pair of Oofos flip flops.. I have bad plantar fasciitis and the last helping me at my running store recommended them. They hug your feet. I put them on right out of bed. It has made a huge difference.
Also, I just purchase the Berkey filter off your recommendation. It will be delivered tomorrow. I’m excited to see how this changes the water game in my house!

  6. I love these posts! I just bought the vanilla ripple recently too and love it. I can’t do cold brew though, it irritates my stomach. Thanks for the Mirena link, a friend of mine was having some weird symptoms and I remembered she had an IUD, after reading that article its pretty clear that would be a valid cause of her symptoms. Random question but do you know where I can watch the crossfit games live? I had the CBS sports link but now everytime I click it, it goes to the preview videos

  7. I’m also on the natural deodorant struggle bus. I’ve tried a few different brands in the $8-12 range and they work for a month or two and then they suddenly really don’t work!
The IUD article is very interesting. I have had the Skyla IUD for 1.5 years and personally love it (compared to the combination pill I was on for 5 years or so) but I do worry about it’s overall effects on my body. Although I’m in a very committed 7 year relationship, we am just not in a place in our lives or financially where we could realistically raise a child and feel most protected against a pregnancy with hormonal birth control. I desperately wish I could let my body just do its thing, forego hormonal bc, and trust FAM but in the event I did get pregnant, it would be so unfair (to the child) to bring a baby into my life right now. I would be super interested in reading articles about different non hormonal birth control options and their pregnancy rates!

  8. I like the ripple and just bought it on your recommendation. Only thing I don’t like is that it has more fat that my typical almond milk. Oh well. Still fun to try something new. That new cold brew from traders sounds delicious!

  9. If you’re interested in meditation you should try the Headspace app. I can’t sit still (I rarely watch movines on my own because I only ever make it part way through) and I’ve had a lot of success with Headspace. I’m up to 20 minutes and 10 minutes feels “rushed”.

  10. Peanut butter cups are my absolute favorite thing! I got a container of mini peanut butter cups from Trader Joe’s, and they are the perfect post-lunch dessert!

  11. I am curious about the cold brew… I drink mostly decaf. I thought maybe you said you did too or used to maybe. Is the coconut cold brew high in caffeine? It sound amazing!

  12. I’m loving reading The Book of Joy, it talks a lot about meditation too and I agree, for someone’s whose brain never stops I do t know if I can’m do it! I probably would find it relaxing though.

I also have been loving warm summer nights and trying to fit in as much summer as we can!

  13. Just a heads up for your readers that the IUD article – which is not written by a medical doctor – wildly misinterprets some legitimate medical literature and could be frightening to some women with IUDs (particularly around linkages to breast cancer – wrongly stating that it increases rates by 20%). It makes birth control sound more dangerous to health than alcohol is!

I know everyone’s experiences with hormones are different – and as a Mirena “owner” there was definitely a “learning curve” for me – but want to make sure women reading here aren’t blindsided and use their critical thinking skills when reading that article.

    1. I believe Dr. Brighten went to medical school in addition to her functional training. What’s your background? Are you a doctor/medical professional? Just curious – I’m not super educated about IUDs. I just had a bad experience with both of the ones I tried.

      1. @Tina: Yup! I’m an RN from a 4 year baccalaureate program. I feel like IUDs are super controversial. I was lucky enough to get referred to a specialized GP for my insertion and followup (who does literally 2000 a year) and I think that was the key to my success. I’ve also done FAM. I think there’s a place for all methods and risks for all – just about the person and being educated about the research. Thx for continuing to share awesome resources that generate great dialogue!

  14. Feeding 12 people!! Haha I LOVED having a huge party this weekend and making hte big menu for everyone’s meals… this leads into me loving breakfast casseroles!

I made two overnight ones… an egg with buttered torn up english muffins as a base, and a french toast casserole~
