What I’m Loving Lately 101

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Hi, friends!

I’m publishing the next edition of What I’m Loving Lately a little early this week because I haven’t shared one in a few weeks now. This one is quite the round-up of favorite products and links. I hope you enjoy it!

What the Heck Should I Eat –  I just recently started this book, and I’m loving it so much! Dr. Hyman explains each food group in detail – the research, why it’s confusing, and then recommends exactly what you should eat. So many of us – myself included – are confused about food, so, hopefully, this book will clear a few things up for me!

The Key To Raising A Happy Child – This was such a great article and now I want to read The Self-Driven Child!

Dr. Scholl’s Madison – I’m obsessed with these shoes! And I’m so pumped for Spring to be here, so I can wear them all the time. They’re just $49 on Zappos.com (free shipping both ways!) and super comfy.

And super cute! I plan to wear them with black leggings and jeans ALLTHETIME in the coming months! 🙂

I also bought Quinn a new pair of sneakers since they were on sale and his current pair were on their last legs. Woohoo! Fresh kicks for spring!

No fuss hair products – You guys know that I’m not fancy, so I’m all about no fuss hair products because I hardly ever blow dry my hair – maybe once a week at most – but I like to have some sort of “style” to it. I mentioned “hair boogers” the other day, but I also love these two products and use them on the regular: “Magic hairspray,” which I’ve used for years and mentioned a few times on CNC and Beautycounter‘s Volumizing Mist, which I use if I actually decide to blow-dry my hair. It smells great and gives my hair a serious and long-lasting lift!

Setting Boundaries When Work and Kids are Constantly Vying for Your Attention – So many great ideas!

9 Tips to Help Balance Hormones Naturally – Lots of great advice!

Natural Calm (Lemon Raspberry flavor) – Apparently, I really love Natural Calm. I laughed when my newest order arrived in the mail. Go big or go home! Haha! Here’s why I love Natural Calm so much.

Micros > Macros– This is a really great way to think about diet and food choices!

Booty workout – I’m all about the booty workouts lately, especially ones where I can use my new booty bands!

Wild-Caught Haddock Fillets from Whole Foods – They’re individually packaged and defrost in no time, so they’re perfect for making a quick and healthy meal. I’m the only one who eats fish in our house, so I love that I can cook up just one fillet and not let the rest go to waste.

Instant Pot Maple Mustard Chicken Recipe – This looks delicious and super easy. I can’t wait to give it a try!

Questions of the Day

What confuses you the most about what to eat?

Any favorite instant pot recipes that you’re loving right now?

How often do you blow dry your hair?

This post contains affiliate links. As always, thank you for supporting CNC!

  1. I think the biggest thing about food confusion for me are all the crazy trends. Gluten free, non dairy, keto, paleo, vegan and on and on. For a person looking for a sensible eating plan, it must be so overwhelming!
I go by the KISS rule. Keep it simple stupid. Have more greens, less cake. Less processed foods and more fresh, homemade food. I have no intolerance to gluten or dairy so why not have them in moderation? I try to avoid the crazy trends and just eat wholesome foods.

  2. I HAVE to blow dry my hair every-time I wash it which is usually every other day and everyday during the summer months!

I just ordered those shoes in grey! They were in my cart for the longest.

My fav instant pot recipe is salsa chicken! Make it every week.

  3. I totally understand the need to advertise in order to keep CNC up and running/support your family financially. However, two pop ups, one banner, and one sidebar seems a little excessive. It’s super annoying to have to click out of the two pop ups especially. Each time I click on a new post, they pop up again. Just some feedback from a loyal reader.

      1. @Tina: Hi Tina! I’m totally supportive of the ads – I love that there’s a way for you to get paid and me to enjoy all the content you produce! The part that drives me crazy is that the “x” to get out of the newsletter pop up is under the video pop up in the upper RH corner, so I have to click out of both to get back to the article. I’m clearly willing to do it because I’m still here, but if there’s a way to shift those so they aren’t layered that would be awesome!

  4. The Dr. Scholl’s shoes are adorable! I tend to blow dry my hair twice a week, but flat iron a lot more often than is healthy for my hair!

  5. I love that NPR parenting article! I really wish the schools would listen to the research more on homework… it can be awful. Fortunately we only really have battles at the start of the year or the first couple days after vacation.
As far as blow drying my hair…drumroll please…. I don’t own one! I honestly can’t remember the last time I blow dried my hair myself. (I have learned to embrace my beachy waves and curls)

  6. I never blow dry my hair. For a few reasons, the top reason being is I’m too lazy but also because I feel like my hair gets super dry. I will if I have to go out quickly but generally I let it dry. Currently living in Mexico City, so the sunny days help with my lack of blo drying. That said, Dyson has come out with a hair dryer I’d love to own.

As for instant pot, I don’t own one yet – but my gf is a food blogger and recently posted this and I can’t help but just stare at the food. I’ll likely try and make it in a slow cooker. Who doesn’t want to eat ribs?

  7. I’m another fan of Natural Calm and it really does help you sleep and bonus points for keeping you regular (if you know what I mean)! I recently tried the gummies instead of the powder and I actually prefer the taste. Works just as well.

This is kind of random but have you ever played the song, “The Mighty Quinn” by Manfred Mann for your little guy? He’d probably love it, cause the song says his name a whole bunch and kids love hearing their name. I think it was written by Bob Dylan, believe it or not. Anyway, keep up the good work! Love your blog, it’s the only one I read regularly. It’s so informative and amusing.
