Did anyone else take advantage of Free Pastry Day at Starbucks this morning? I sure did! I love free stuff! πŸ˜‰

On my drive into NuVal this morning, I stopped by Starbucks to get my “handcrafted” beverage and free pastry. Since I already drank a 2-shot iced latte with breakfast, I opted for a decaf, soy milk latte. I didn’t need that much caffeine to get my day going! 😯

My latte was really foamy! Just how I like ’em!

Lunch

For lunch, I ate the other half of my veggie burrito from Anna’s. As expected, it was delicious and totally hit the spot.

My free pastry of choice was the Iced Lemon Loaf. It was a tough decision between the Pumpkin Loaf and the Iced Lemon Loaf, but the Lemon Loaf eventually won out because of its layer of thick frosting. πŸ˜‰

The frosting actually fell off and stuck to the inside the bag, but I didn’t let it go to waste. I whipped out a spoon, scraped it off the sides of the bag, and ate it that way. No frosting goes to waste around me! Frosting = heaven!

With my Iced Lemon Loaf, I enjoyed a mug of Sleepytime Vanilla tea, which tasted like vanilla with a hint of dish soap flavor? Maybe I didn’t rinse my mug well enough? πŸ˜•

Snack

When I got home from NuVal, I snacked on an apple and some pitted dates.

I probably ate 7 or 8 dates all together.

It’s time to take Murphy for a walk and start on dinner. Mal and I are eating an early dinner and then going to Body Pump with Dave and Marie later tonight.

Win 2 VIP Tickets to the Boston Marathon

Kristine, a long-time CNC reader, is hosting a fundraiser to help raise awareness for MS. Check out what she says below:

I recently found out that my good friend, who is only 32-years-old was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. In an attempt to help raise awareness and hopefully find a cure, we are doing a 5 mile walk on April 10th. In an attempt to fundraise, I have decided to auction off 2 front seat tickets to the finish line of the Boston Marathon along with 2 tickets to a brunch hosted by the Boston Athletic Association. This is a great opportunity for any runners out there who have loved ones that want to see them cross the finish line and get great pictures. The easiest way for me to handle this auction is to have interested individuals email me at purplepinkytoes@gmail.com with a bid. I am going to start bidding at 75 dollars. Bidding will continue until Friday, March 26 at noon. I will update the bidders with the highest bid so they can outbid each other if they desire. On Friday, I will email Tina to announce the winner, and then the winner will donate the money to my fundraising page, and I will send along the tickets. Thanks so much for all of your support!

  1. I drove past local coffee shops to get my free Coffee Cake. Then drove back across town, past my house, to go to work!!!

  2. I’m so bummed I missed the free pastry day. I totally forgot this morning! πŸ™

I have that problem with my mug at work all the time where I don’t fully rinse it and my water tastes like dishsoap. ick!

  3. I got my free “pastry” at Starbucks with an iced coffee; I decided to go for a bagel because I knew I’d be having some free sugar later… It’s Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry’s! I’m the master of free food basically.

  4. i punked out. it was either laziness or trying to be good on a diet. it backfired because the whole day i felt ravenous and then total regret for not participating in the free pastry day at starbucks

  5. NO I had the coupon printed out and posted on my bulletin board but the nearest Starbucks is quite far away (shocking considering we’re a college town!!) and I didn’t get a chance. Boo. Your choice of pastry looks scrumptious and I’m all about scraping the frosting off the bag πŸ™‚

  6. How much planning do you give to your food now (as part of “lose the dough”) as opposed to before? do you consciously choose NOT to have something that you want? or is it about being mindful to resist the things that you truly do not want, but might eat anyway before the challenge? i think you have a great attitude towards food, but i suppose my question is, besides curtailing mindless indulgences, how much (if at all) have your daily choices changed? would you have considered not getting a pastry (which although looks awesome, it’s probably more on the side of empty calories than nutritious ones)? do you find that it is more difficult to resist sugary food if you still include a lot of it? and a side note, that apple looks SO perfect! delish!

  7. I wish I could have gotten a free pastry! I didn’t find out about it till I was already on campus and in class. It was also free cone day at Ben & Jerry’s, but the line was out the door and around the block so I didn’t get that promo either…sad day!

  8. Mmmm, dish soap… πŸ˜› And not only did I miss out on free pastry day on account of not being in the States, I was actually here in Paris for Free Macaron day and couldn’t partake because my stupid toe was playing up and I had to stay off my feet all day. Argh!

  9. Mmm Starbucks lemon loaf is so good!! The frosting makes it!!! So glad you didn’t let it go to waste πŸ™‚

I’m hoping that your mug wasn’t rinsed out enough because it would be sad if that tea really tastes like dish soap!!

  10. Haha, I am the worst- I went to Starbucks to grab a tea and PASSED on the free pastry. I think the lady thought I was crazy, but most of those pastries hurt my tummy so I figured it wasn’t worth it!

  11. I totally stopped and got a FREE scone! (WOOT!) Well.. free with my latte πŸ™‚
On a side, totally unrelated note, have you ever done a series on toning muscles? Specifically, arm muscles? I’d love to know what sort of workout you do for them.. Happy Tuesday!

  12. Love Free Pastry Day! I picked up the banana chocolate chip cake this morning. Always fun when the hospital’s dietitian is eating cake for breakfast! haha. But worth the splurge πŸ™‚

  13. I totally forgot about the free pastry, and it was too cold for free cone day! I love sleepytime tea, but it actually makes me drowsy, so I couldn’t drink it at work!

That marathon fundraiser is such a good idea! FYI I am doing a raffle with lots of great prizes like a $100 gc to Williams Sonoma and a tour and tasting at Westport Rivers Winery.

  14. Had a skim milk Dark Cherry Mocha iced coffee w/ low-fat banana chocolate chip coffee cake. Yum. Then I proceeded to warm a chair for 5+ hours and complete the first draft of my current WIP, a romance tentatively called “Beauty and the Ballplayer.”

  15. That apple looks like perfection…and so do those yummy looking dates!
I never knew Starbucks gave out free pastries To bad they aren’t gluten free πŸ™
