How to Make Stovetop Oats

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots β€˜N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Mal, Murphy, and I are headed HOME this afternoon! πŸ˜€ I’m so excited to see our families! Mal’s sister, Sibylle, is home from Seattle, so she’ll get to meet her “nephew” for the first time today. And, tonight, we have plans to get together with the high school crew— there will probably be some karaoke tonight! I can’t wait!

Jen and I ended up staying up pretty late last night drinking wine, so I slept in this morning and skipped the gym. I sort of wish I had just dragged myself there, but my body did not want to move. Oh well. I’ll fit in a run before our Thanksgiving feast tomorrow.

I started my morning with a delicious bowl of oats.

In the mix:

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup wheatberries
  • 1/3 cup pomegranate arils
  • 1 tbsp ground flaxseed meals
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 scoops of peanut butter

I also drank some iced coffee with breakfast, but I didn’t snap a photo. You guys have seen it a million times in the past! πŸ˜‰

And, as requested, here’s how I make my stove top oats:

Question of the Day

What are your plans for Turkey Day?

  1. Thanks for the video tutorial. It should be so easy, but I feel like it takes me FOREVER to make a pot of oats. I usually just use my rice cooker so the oatmeal can cook while I get other stuff done. πŸ™‚

  2. What a pretty bowl of oats!! Unfortunately I don’t get a real thanksgiving this year, being in Australia and all. I think we’re going to have a mini one, but its sure going to be hard without an oven or a mama to walk me through cooking a turkey!

  3. hey anna (#6) its my first thanksgiving as a vegetarian too! good luck to us both! πŸ™‚

also, your oats look yummy and so much faster than my steel cut oats (which take 25 minutes, but so worth it) i always mash my banana first and then pour the hot oats over it and combine, sooo good, and after you mash the banana there is a kind of syrup that forms from the natural sugars. i use 1/4 c steel cut oats, 2 tb. oat bran cook that and add it to my mashed banana, then i add 1 tb flax seed meal, 2 tb vanilla silk, cinnamon, combine that real well than drizzle it with a little honey and 1 tb pb. i call it my chunky monkey oatmeal. deeeeelish!

  4. my mom is the only one who can make stove top oats without making screwing them up. i’ve always been the microwave girl, but i should try this!

  5. I’m headed home to Cleveland late tonight after work. I’m really excited for this year because my mum’s a nurse and usually has to work, but this year she’s off! It’ll be so nice to spend Thanksgiving day with her finally :O)

    Enjoy your holiday Tina!!

  6. Some day I should make the time to cook my oats on the stovetop, I’m a microwave gal currently. I was multi tasking this morning, putting my makeup on while my oats cooked.

Headed to Cape Cod bright and early tomorrow morning. As soon as we arrive I’m headed out for a seaside run!

  7. Turkey Day will be busy for me! It starts with a Turkey Trot in my hometown with a bunch of my highschool friends in the morning, then I’ll drive to Utica for my husband’s family Thanksgiving. I will most likely fall asleep by 9 pm.

  8. Thanks for the demo! I can’t eat oats anymore but hopefully I will be able to by next year (possible surgery for my GI issues) and then I would love to make my oats this way. I must say though, it was painful for me to listen to your metal on metal sounds. It makes me crazy! πŸ™‚

  9. I always make my oats in the microwave just because it’s less clean-up. πŸ˜‰ My plans for tomorrow are to eat good food, try to fit some exercise in before dinner and enjoy time with friends and family. It’s only one day a year so I’m not worried about eating a little extra. πŸ™‚

  10. Great video….I too was in pain though listening to metal spoon scraping away…does anyone else have this same problem as me?It makes me cringe and drives me crazy!Silly me;)
    Happy holidays !

  11. The night before Thanksgiving is always fun catching up with everyone! Enjoy tonight!! Our plans – go to one side of the family before dinner and then have dinner at the other side’s πŸ™‚

  12. We’re headed over to my parents, who live near us in downtown Chicago! My sister’s flying in from N. Carolina and our good family friends are joining us too… Even though we live a few minutes from my parents, we’re staying the night after T-day dinner, just for old times sake!

  13. I have to make 18 pounds of potatoes tonight! I should tape it and send you the clip, I am sure you would get a kick out of it. The Gobble Gobble Gobble run in Somerville in the morning then a trip to RI for a food filled Thanksgiving! Enjoy your time home with family.

  14. 8am Bikram Yoga class to get this starterd! Thanksgiving is such a great Holiday isn’t it? Heading down to my sisters in Duxbury. We have grown to a family of 20 so always lots of fun. Enjoy your family!

  15. I am spending Thanksgiving during the day with my immediate family watching the Parade, dog show, and football then in the afternoon going over to my aunt’s house for a feast that will prob have 20+ people! Oh big families!

  16. Looking so good! But I also hate that sound of the spoon scraping;)
Don’t your pans get a lot of scratches this way?

  17. I’m a new follower as i am trying to get out of my rut of unhealthiness. great minds seem to think alike as i had nearly the exact same thing for breakfast this morning. i had oats with pom, banana, and a tad bit of honey. in your recipes (and others i’ve seen for oats on other blogs) it seems that ground flaxseed is always present. Can you explain the benefit of this ingredient?

  18. I wish I had the patience for stove top oats. I stick mine in the microwave while I put on my make-up.

For Turkey Day Hunni and I have a day just for us since we don’t get enough time to travel home. But we like it and it has become tradition.

  19. I am having Thanksgiving with my boyfriend. We’re making Turkey Mole with handmade corn tortillas. Dessert is gluten free brownies with peanut butter chips, Coconut Bliss and perfectly ripe persimmons. Fun!

  20. I love your attitude re: not working out this morning. Sometimes I tend to freak out if I miss a workout and have that all or nothing attitude. It’s refreshing to see someone treat it as part of the day/routine and know that you can always get back on the horse (or bus, or whatever metaphor you choose ;))

I’m going to my parents house in CT!

  21. Hi Tina,

Just wanted to say that I really like your voice! πŸ˜› It’s very pleasant and clear. I always eat stove top oats. Yum!
