Hot and Humid

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Holy cow! It’s HOT and HUMID here in Boston! 😯

Last night, Mal and I finally broke out the AC, which made sleeping a zillion times more enjoyable last night, so we woke up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed this morning. It’s amazing with a good night’s sleep can do for you!

I practically bounded out of bed into the kitchen for breakfast this morning. I was wide awake and hungry! I made steel cut oats from Good Food Made Simple with chia seeds and Teddie Peanut Butter. I also drank a glass of iced coffee with soy milk.

Last Night’s Dinner

Last night’s dinner was sort of random since we didn’t do a ”˜real’ grocery shopping this week. I ended up making a package of chicken broccoli rice and roasted brussels sprouts with Black Truffle & Fresh Thyme Herb Sea Salt from the Foodzie Tasting Box that Foodbuzz sent me.

Black Truffle & Fresh Thyme Herb Sea Salt = amazing. I want more!

After dinner, I enjoyed a couple of Sandwich Thins with peanut butter and butterscotch chips on top. (Yes, I am obsessed.)

Three Questions Thursday

Here’s another edition of Three Questions Thursday!

What exactly are Chia Seeds? And what are the nutritional benefits from them?

Info from Wikipedia:

Chia seeds are small ovals with a diameter of about 1 mm. They are mottle-colored with brown, gray, black and white.

Chia seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. In one ounce, chia seeds contain 9% of the Daily Value for protein (4g), 13% fat (9g), and 42% dietary fiber (11g), based on a daily intake of 2000 calories. The seeds also contain the essential minerals phosphorus, manganese, calcium, potassium and sodium in amounts comparable to other edible seeds, such as flax or sesame.

I sent you a photo of my dog for Blog Dogs months ago. Why haven’t you posted it?

I have a serious backlog of photos, so it might take awhile for you to see your pup. I post the photos in the order that I receive them in my inbox, so depending on when you sent it, you might see your doggie on Blog Dog soon or not-so-soon. Just to give you an idea, I’m still posting the photos sent to me on February 7th. I still have about 300 dogs to post on Blog Dogs. I plan to post them all, so please be patient.

How did you start writing for Health? Do you have any advice for finding writing opportunities like that?

My writing gig with Health was 100% luck and good timing! I emailed Health to inquire about some freelance work and, at the same time, they were looking for someone to contribute to their Feel Great Weight program. A few of the Health editors were readers of my blog, so I think that helped too!

Nearly all of my writing opportunities (Health, NuVal, my book deal, etc.) have come about because of my blog. Basically, my blog is a live resume for potential writing jobs, so it helps me market my skills for new opportunities. My best advice: put a lot of time into your blog (if you’re a blogger) and reach out to companies/organizations that you want to write for and show them examples of your work. You never know what might happen!

Speaking of companies that you might want to write for”¦

Question of the Day

Would you rather be super hot or freezing cold?

  1. Hi Tina! Love your blog. I was just curious if you are watching the Stanley Cup at all. I’m a Vancouverite – we heard about your hot weather there because the rink had trouble making good ice last night.

Despite my Canadian-ness, I’d rather be hot.

  2. It’s so hot here in Baltimore too! Blerg!
Does NuVal have an app? I love the concept and would love to use based on their website but none of the grocery chains in my area are partnered with them. Having the NuVal scores could make comparing nutritional stats much quicker when at the store.
    Love the blog!

  3. Definitely ‘winter’ for me. I am in Australia, I am so happy its winter now, loving every second of it. I even love doing our outisde training in the freezing cold at 6am, so invigorating!
I am cringing when I read how hot & humid it is in the states, I soooo don’t miss it!

  4. I admit the heat doesn’t make me so miserable now that I’ve lost 90+ pounds and my thighs aren’t on fire from so much friction anymore but I’d rather be cold because you can always add a layer to warm up but there is only so much you can take off when it’s cold. I’m one of those crazy people who love snow and winter sports so the colder the better.

  5. Although I enjoy cold weather, I have to say after this winter, I’d much rather be super HOT. At least we can turn on the AC. wtih the winter, there is always a cold draft coming in from somewhere. I can still recall on those windy days how my face hurt as I walked to work. Uhh… hated this past winter.

  6. I would much rather be HOT!!! I am always cold. I live in Seattle (aka the coldest place in the USA apparently) and I can’t help but be slightly jealous of the heat. I’m from Minneapolis so I completely understand the heat and humidity and I miss it terribly! But sleeping in the heat is impossible : (
