Good morning!
I receive a lot of questions about Quinn’s favorite toys, so I thought a gift guide with toddlers in mind would be helpful to those of you shopping for them this holiday season. These toys are some of Quinn’s very favorites (with a few Christmas presents mixed in), but both boys and girls will love them!
Mega Bloks First Builders Fast Tracks Rescue Team – Quinn can’t get enough of these blocks lately! We call them “ramps and cars,” and he plays with them everyday, usually multiple times a day. They’re actually the toy we bring with us when we visit friends’ houses to keep him entertained!
Fisher-Price Little People Lil’ Movers Baby School Bus – Quinn is a tad obsessed with “the bus.” There’s one at daycare as well as KFIT… even our neighbors’ son has one, so every time Quinn has access to “the bus,” he plays with it forever. He is definitely getting his own for Christmas this year!
Paw Patrol Bowling Set – Another Christmas gift for Quinn! He’s never actually used a bowling set, but I have a feeling he’ll love playing with it. It seems right up his alley and his loves knocking over/destroying his block masterpieces!
Fisher-Price Grow-to-Pro Basketball – Quinn loves playing basketball and this hoop grows with your little one, so they can use it for years!
Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Smart Stages Mower – We received this mower as a gift a few months ago and it was an instant hit with Quinn. He loved pushing it around the house. Now that he’s a bit older, he loves starting it and filling it with gas too!
Melissa & Doug Deluxe Jumbo Cardboard Blocks – Our local library has a set of these jumbo cardboard blocks, and Quinn always plays with him when we visit, so we bought him his own set for Christmas. He’s going to be so excited!
Squigz – My sister gave us a bunch of Squigz when Quinn was a baby and he still loves them today. We often take them to restaurants to keep him entertained (they’re suction cups so you’re not picking them up off the floor 8,000 times during a meal) and now he loves playing with them in the bathtub.
Little Tikes Spiralin’ Seas Waterpark Play Table – Quinn fell in love with this water table at a friends’ house over the summer, so it’ll be under the Christmas tree for him this year!
World Map Puzzle – A toy and a huge play mat at the same time! Ours gets a ton of use in our house, and I know it will for years to come!
And to organize all of these toys, I highly recommend the Honey-Can-Do Kids Toy Organizer and Storage Bins. We have one and it’s the best way to keep things tidy!
Question of the Day
Toddler moms: What gift are you especially excited to give your little one this year?

My son will be 14 months by Christmas and we are so excited to give him the Fisher Price Bright Beats dance and move robot (because his friend has it and loves it), 2 of the Vtech Go go smart wheels sets as he got one for His birthday two months ago and is borderlined obsessed with the car, and his first Fisher Price Little People set. The thing I’m most excited for is starting a new Christmas tradition with him as we are going to give him a book to unwrap every night the 7 days before Christmas 🙂
That’s a great idea!!
Great ideas! Saving these for later, I have a 6 week old so he’s not in need of much for his first Christmas. 🙂
These are some good ideas! I have a few of my friend’s kids to buy for and since I don’t have kids I had no clue what to get them. Thank you!!!
My son is also 18 months old. I got him a hockey set for playing indoor (http://www.amazon.com/Franklin-Sports-NHL-Indoor-Sport/dp/B002YE28LY/ref=sr_1_2?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1449586781&sr=1-2&keywords=hockey+set), a soccer ball (https://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca/kids/toys/franklin-competition-100-soccer-ball/025725065592-item.html?ikwid=soccer+ball&ikwsec=Home&ikwidx=0) and that guitar (http://www.amazon.com/Battat-68643AM-B-Woofer-Guitar/dp/B004Z0VVEK/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1449586893&sr=1-1&keywords=Woofer+Hound+Dog+Guitar) I got the same one for my nephew who is also the same age. I also got him swimming lessons starting in January. I am refraining to buy him more things. He does not understand the concept of Christmas yet and I don’t want to over spoil him! It’s not like I am not buying him gifts on a regular basis already! 😉
Great gifts! Quinn would love that hockey set!!
love this! my guy is the same exact age as yours. we already have some of those items. But, he’s getting a chomping dinosaur this year, a fisher price bright beats toy, and a few others.
But, I love the bowling set. That is definitely going on the list! Great idea!
These gifts would be great for boy or girl toddlers. In fact, my daughter has a lot of the items on this list.
We are getting my daughter (19 months) the little people bus too! You have a great list- but nothing about it makes it just for “boys.” My daughter has many of these toys (the lawnmower, bricks, basketball hoop) and loves them.
I understand that you have a son and are speaking from experience, but there is no reason to gender categorize these toys, especially when you mention in the first line that they would be good for boys are girls. Remove boys from the title! Easy fix, and inclusive of all.
Yes, I was speaking from experience with my toddler boy, and I’m sorry that I upset you. I removed “boy” from the title.
I appreciate that, thank you!
I have a little boy about 6 months younger than Quinn and this was so helpful!!!! I had to pin it to my baby boy board! 😉 I’m excited about the ball pit I just ordered for my little man for Christmas! He loves crawling in and out of things so I think he’s going to love it!
Awesome ideas! My son (13 months) has a few of them too. 🙂 We’ve been looking into different water tables. The one you posted looks like a great option! For my son’s first b’day party (farm-themed – I think Quinn’s was too?), he received this tractor as a gift: http://www.amazon.com/play-G02033-Kidoozie-Funtime-Tractor/dp/B000063JQJ Super fun!
@Colleen @ What’s Baking in the Barbershop?!: That looks awesome!
The bowling set sounds like a great idea! (these are all great ideas!) I want to buy our little guy a tipee. He loves to hide behind furniture and I think a tipee would be fun for us to hide in, read books, etc! Other than that we aren’t buying him much, we are actually rewrapping some of his birthday gifts he received at his 1st bday party in November since he has no memory of already opening them…hey, might as well do it while we can get away with it, haha.
My 2 year-old loves his Little People school bus. We play with it a lot! He’d also love the water table I bet. Thanks for sharing!
I really love a subscription box like Citrus Lane. They bring something fun and new every month and the kids love a present every month 🙂
Thank you for this list! I need to purchase a gift for my nephew, and you have some great ideas here. Happy holidays! 🙂
Great list! Just remember sometimes it’s a good thing if a toy the kiddo likes is only at one place (eg daycare) so they look forward to playing with it. We made the mistake of buying a toy my son loved at daycare and he got burnt out by it!
@Becky: I agree. My son is at daycare full time and I like that he has his toys there and has different toys at home. The only things that I’ve bought that he had at daycare were the Melissa and Doug puzzles
Great ideas!! We are getting our 2 year old daughter a Melissa and Doug easel set.
That’s what I got my nephew! It seems like a winner. Hope she loves it!
We are going to give our 19-month old twin girls each a potty. Maybe opening them up and getting them excited about the potty will help ease into potty training Maybe??:)
Definitely! We bought one for Quinn a few weeks ago and he’s really interested!

This is the BEST toy! My 3yo has used it so much, we have to get a new one! The rubber wheels are great for our wood floors, too.
My son just turned one and he loves magnets! He has some kid safe ones on the fridge that he plays with all the time so we bought him a set of magnet animals. He also loves his daddy’s tools so he’s getting a play hammer and tool box, and some pull back and release cars. He’s a little bookworm, too, so we got him “tap, tap, bang, bang,” because there’s nothing like expanding my noises repertoire!
He loves the little people! I found a barn secondhand and it’s his favorite toy. We just found him the tractor and some more animals.
What great ideas! I’m getting the bus as there is one at church and he loves playing with it. I also would add a kitchen set. Whenever we see one, my son loves playing with it!
Thanks for this! I don’t have children, but I have a nephew who has a birthday coming up. I’ve been wracking my brain trying to figure out what to get him. So I went with the squigz. I think he’ll really like that. Yay!
My two year old loves to play with Magna-Tiles.
The megablocks gift idea is perfect for my friends’ little boy. Thanks for the suggestions!
Hi Tina!! We have a few outdoor toys we are getting my son (17 months) too… He would LOVE a water table and it’s on his wish list. I’m curious if Quinn will get to play with this or wait until xmas…? That’s my hesitation in getting it for Christmas. Thanks!!!
He’s getting a green toys dump toy, push lawn mower (use inside?), Elmo DVD (he LOVES him!), a tool belt…
@Lisa r:
My son is getting his own umbrella (pirate theme!) because he LOVES to help me hold mine and some Melissa and Doug dough modeling tools! He loves play dough and finger painting if that helps anyone! (He’s 17 months, about same age as Q)
He’ll get his toys on Christmas morning! 🙂
Thanks, Tina! I bought the Mega Bloks Rescue Team for my 14-month old nephew! He LOVES cars!
I’m not a mom, but am an auntie to a two year old who can’t get enough books. I know Quinn loves his books, too! I’m getting her books and a Melissa & Doug pizza party set because her favorite food is “pizza dinner”. 🙂
My son will love those mega blocks ramps! I didn’t even know they existed, THANKS! 🙂
Quinn is obsessed! He’s played with them every day for a couple of months now!
Hi Tina,
I bought squigz for my two nieces (6 mos. and 11 mos.) after seeing this post. But now that I have them all ready to be gifted, I realize they are for ages 3 and up. Oops. What was your experience with them when Quinn was younger? Do you think this toy is not appropriate for my nieces’ age groups? I would love to hear your take on this. Thanks!
Quinn has played with them since about 9 months and still loves them! I think your nieces will too!
