Helping Paws

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

The home improvement projects never end when you’re a homeowner. Poor Mal worked for hours trying to install a new faucet in our kitchen sink this afternoon.

When we moved into our new home back in November, the nice people from Moen sent us this housewarming gift to try out.

Unfortunately, Mal had quite a bit of trouble installing it. Actually, he struggled with UNinstalling the old faucet. He even had to run out to Lowe’s to buy a Telescopic Basin Wrench to get into the tight space behind the garbage disposal to remove the nut from the old faucet. It was a hacksaw blade that finally did the trick! Once the old faucet was out, it was a piece of cake to put in the new one. Thank goodness!

Through all of this, the pug, of course, wasn’t far from the action.

Murphy slowly crept in for a closer look at the project at hand.

Apparently, this position gave him the best view.

Then, the pug tried to make himself comfortable.

Eventually, he made it work.

Weirdest dog ever.

To refuel after this morning’s run, I ate an egg white and cheddar cheese sandwich on a toasted English muffin and drank a protein shake made with Vanilla Whey Superior Charge, iced coffee, and soy milk.

As you know, I’m trying to increase my protein intake, so I’m going to incorporate whey protein into my diet. One scoop (31.8 g) has 21 grams of protein! Plus, it’s easy to mix into things that I already eat and drink, like iced coffee, oatmeal, and smoothies. I especially like this one because it’s really vanilla-y!

After running errands all afternoon, I came home and snacked on a few Crispy Tenderswith barbeque sauce.

And an apple with a scoop of peanut butter.

For dinner, Mal and I are making homemade pizza and drinking beer. Watching a movie and building a fire is also on the agenda for the evening. Sounds like the perfect Saturday night to me!

Off to pig out!

  1. I love your dog. End of story!
My dog is also pretty crazy. If we place a box of his treats on the floor where he can get them, he first gives a “shake” to the box before getting a treat out of it. He does this each time he takes a treat out. It’s so amusing to watch!

  2. I love the shaker that your protein shake was in! I have been looking for one about that size and shape and can’t really find one I like. Where did you find that one?

  3. omg your family is so cute! I love these kinds of posts, M & m always make me laugh. Oh where did you buy the Whey protein powder?

  4. Aww Murphy’s just tryin’ to help! So cute 🙂

I’ve been wanting to make some homemade pizza for a while too… I agree, it does sound like the perfect evening!

  5. P.S- My parents bought our house almost 12 years ago and we JUST started to renovate the kitchen…. it’s from the 1950s!!!! now, THATS late 😛

  6. How funny is Murphy! I love it! And the project really never end. It’s as frustating as it is exciting sometimes but well worth it in the end. I hope the faucet worked out!!! Good luck!

  7. Sounds like your husband enjoys plumbing as much as mine does 😉 I tend to leave the house when things like that are going on. I know I can’t help, and I feel completely useless when the frustration starts to mount. Your dog is the cutest thing ever and looks like one tough boss (always on the lookout for a slacker worker) LOL

  8. Oh Murphy! He has such a personality – I love it! 😀 Glad the sink worked out…I’m going to be useless w/ that stuff whenever I own a house.

  9. HAHAHA Classic pug style! We have a 5 month old pug that does the same thing! He insists on sitting as close to our faces as possible!

Actually, I was curious to ask you how old Murphy was when he got to his full size? Our pug is only 5 months but he is probably already almost 15 lbs!

  10. I love Murphy, can we trade dogs? Mine is a bad dog 🙂

Ever since we bought a house, I feel like Lowe’s is our 2nd home. I’m pretty sure we’re single-handedly supporting our local Lowe’s with our endless purchases. Thank goodness Lowe’s gives a 10% military discount!

  11. Hi Tina,
I really admire you. I’m suffering from anemia from now. I’m chronically dizzy and can barely walk. Its not gotten better and for over a year , I’ve been relegated to mere walking (I use to run competitively, and this is hard to deal with — the guilt of just walking!! Seriously.

I encourage you to eat the whole eggs (I eat 2-3 whole eggs per day). The yolk contains practically all the vitamins, minerals, iron, etc. In addition the egg yolk contains a healthy 2.5 g of protein and great source of satiating fat.

  12. Love the pictures of Murphy, I can’t believe Mal let him stay like that for long. It must have made it that much more difficult to do the work. Have a nice Saturday 🙂

  13. I love your tshirts!

And those types of moments, where hubs is trying to be handy…I am the one that rips the tools from his hands b/c i think i can do it better. I am so impatient…you are good to just sit back and chill on that one and let him work his magic!

    Enjoy your nite 🙂

  14. those shirts are awesome, i need one! (i love pork!)

Weirdest dog ever = yes. hahaha. 🙂 poor Mal and that sink project. but how nice of Moen to send you that!!

  15. Love Murphy! I have a similarly mischievous pug who loves to crawl on me whenever I try to stretch/do yoga at home.

Do any of Mal’s students know about/read your blog?

  16. Okay I love Murphy but I love it even more that Mal let him lie on him while he’s working on the plumbing!!

  17. Love, love, love Murphy. Too funny! I actually installed our kitchen faucet a few years ago. Never swore much in my life. Lots of bad words came out of my mouth (and I don’t usually swear.) Also, I decided that plumbers don’t get paid enough. 🙂

  18. M&M make me laugh! Thanks for sharing pieces of your life with us every day, I look forward to coming home after school or logging on after studying and looking to see what’s new!
    Jess : )

  19. hahaha, Murphy is hilarious sitting on Mals lap like that!! Gah he’s such a character. I know I’ve said that before, but it’s true! Good luck with any other home improvements that are bound to pop up.

  20. Oh gosh, when I was little my parents and I had moved into this new house which we eventually ended up dubbing “The Money Pit.” There was ALWAYS something breaking or leaking… PS. I haven’t commented yet, but I really love the new blog design. Looks great!
