Heart Attack Snow

Have you ever heard of heart attack snow? Well, it’s the really heavy, wet snow that is notorious for literally causing heart attacks because it’s so much more difficult to move with a shovel than lighter, fluffier snow. Terrible, right? Well, we have lots of it outside right now!

Digging out our cars was a serious workout this afternoon. Mal and I were huffing and puffing and dripping with sweat by the time we finished! It was hard work!

Meanwhile, the pug supervised from inside.

After shoveling snow, which seemed like forever, I made lunch. I ate a big salad with baked tofu and balsamic vinegar drizzled on top.

I used Caitlin‘s recipe for her Perfect Baked Tofu, but I didn’t have a lot of the ingredients, so I made my own marinade:

  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1.5 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger

Delicious! I loved the texture of the tofu: firm outside, soft inside!

After lunch, I ate a couple of chocolate chip cookies.

And later a Granny Smith apple.

Mal and I are going out to dinner to celebrate a recent accomplishment (we also have a Groupon that is about to expire), so I’m off to pretty myself!

See ya! 😎

  1. Have fun out at dinner! It’s crazy how much more snow Boston has got this winter than the mountains of NH! 🙂 Safe travels while you’re out & about!

  2. We had the hugest dump of snow ( and it was brutally cold too which is usually just what we get, we have snow but we are very dry generally) that lasted for days here in Edmonton Alberta a couple weeks ago. It was so hard to keep up with the shoveling. It was the most snow we’ve had here since the mid seventies I heard…about the same or more than yours there. Now its starting to melt cause we are above zero and it just looks filthy dirty from all the layers of sand and salt that’s been put down. But we will be returning to seasonal temps here on the weekend! At least spring is only about 4 months away.

  3. I am so sick of this snow! We got around 16 inches here in PA. It’s awful! I heard we are supposed to get more snow on Tuesday. Ugh! I’ve had enough! Have fun at dinner!

  4. I feel bad about all the snow (I’m actually watching about it on the news right now).

I think it’s a little crude for it to be referred to as heard attack snow, though… My dad DID actually have a heart attack while shoveling snow.

  5. Also, I wanted to comment on your photos and how cute it is that you have Murphy in most of them. The one with “Meanwhile, the pug supervised from the inside.” is my favorite. I love that he’s in the food photos as well!

  6. HOLY MOLY! That’s A LOT of snow!!! I heard the NE has already hit the average for this season!

Your meal look delicious, but my favorite is the cookies! Chocolate chip is my absolute favorite. 🙂

  7. Wow you weren’t kidding about the snow! I knew you guys were getting around a foot but holy hell that looks like a full blown blizzard!!!! Craziness and now I completely understand why you have not been ‘feelin ‘ it lately!! Gah!!!!
Hope you have fun at dinner tonight at least, and stay warrmmmmmmmm!

  8. We got that godawful heavy snow, too (I’m in Baltimore). Good thing that shoveling it was such a workout because my favorite snow day activity is eating!!

  9. I <3 Groupon… There is also livingsocial and seize the deal – both these sites are exactly like groupon. I love waking up and seeing what deals are up for grabs. I admire that you are eating salads – I hate eating salads in the winter – I have lots of soup instead. Veggie soup. Its like a warm salad, right? 😉

  10. I grew up in the “snow belt” of NY — so I feel like a wimp for complaining, but NJ is really getting hammered this winter! We got a lot of junk (snow, sleet, freezing rain) yesterday morning and afternoon; then another 12″ of snow last night which gave me a snow day today! (And a 90 minute delay tomorrow).

  11. I’ve been in Australia for 7 months and we’re in summer right now. I’m a Canadian. This is going to annoy people but your pictures make me homesick. I have no air conditioning and sweat all day long. Oh what I would give for a cozy fireplace and watching the snow fall in the morning while drinking my hot coffee. Guess it’s in my icy Canadian blood.

  12. Snow, snow, snow! I <3 the snow. We've only had foot upon foot of the powdery stuff way up north here, so I'm quite glad that shoveling doesn't take hours (unless your shoveling a friend's driveway when they'd been in Thailand for the 2 weeks of snowing). Hard work, but great time for playing with the husband outside.
