Health Blogs for Men

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

I can’t get over the weather lately. It’s been absolutely beautiful!! I don’t think I can remember a November like this ever. Usually, it’s gray, cloudy, and freezing cold.

Obviously, I am taking full advantage of this unseasonably warm weather and getting outside as much as possible, so, yesterday afternoon, I took Murphy to Bare Cove Park to run around and play.

I usually let him go off-leash and do his own thing at the park. He listens pretty well, but I bring some treats for those times when his “selective hearing” kicks in.

Murphy made friends with an 18-month-old lab and played an intense game of chase with her for a solid 15 minutes straight. The two of them ran around like freaks and took turns chasing each other”” I even saw some elephant butt!

Eventually, both of the dogs tired out and stopped playing. It was a serious cardio session!

We said goodbye to the lab and her owners, and then Murphy went to cool off.

I swear, he’s the only pug that likes water.

Murphy and I spent a little over an hour at the park before heading home.

At home, I broke out my NASM materials and got to work. I made myself a chocolate-banana smoothie (frozen banana + chocolate soy milk + vanilla protein powder) to sip on while I studied.

Murphy (and his pimple) kept me company while I studied.

A couple of hours later, Murphy and I picked up Mal at the train station and headed home for dinner. Mal was starving after a full day of travel, so I whipped up a quick meal while he got settled and unpacked.

On the menu: tomato, basil, and mozzarella paninis with roasted broccoli and wine.

Before I roasted the broccoli, I jazzed-up it up by coating it with a homemade marinade:

  • 3 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp salt

I’m not sure exactly how much broccoli I used, but I’d guess close to two pounds. I had two huge heads of broccoli. After I covered the broccoli in the marinade, I roasted it in the oven for 20-25 minutes on 400*F. Mal loved it!

After dinner, Mal and I caught up with our DVR and took care of Murphy’s pimple. We’ve been applying steroid cream and hot compresses since Thursday. It’s finally starting to look better.

Be Grateful Challenge

I’m grateful for nearby open spaces. It’s really nice to have a place to enjoy nature, get some exercise, and bring Murphy to run around.

Health Blogs for Men

The other day, I received an email from a reader looking for recommendations for health blogs written by men. Her husband wants to find a blog that covers fitness, lifestyle, and general wellbeing topics. I only follow a few blogs written by guys, so I thought you guys might have some suggestions too.

Here are the ones currently in my Google Reader:

Question of the Day

Do you read health blogs written by men? What are your favorites?

  1. I admit I don’t read health blogs written by men that often, but my boyfriend forwards me a lot of links to articles written by the Editor of Men’s Health and the author of the Eat This, Not That series of books and to be frank… I really don’t like that guy. David Zinczenko oversimplifies complex nutritional information and misleads people to think it’s OK to eat a doughnut by comparing it to a higher-calorie bagel (that can also be way more nutritious offering fiber and protein when done right). I guess it’s good that he helps people realize how calorie-dense take-out food is, but still, he just bothers me.

  2. That park looks so pretty! I wish I could let my dog off leash, but he’s too much of a “free spirti” as my boyfriend puts it! I think he’d wander too much and it would make me nerovous.

I read some blogs by men, but they are mainly of the comedy and entertainment or sports genre, no healthly living one unfortunately.

  3. It has been killing me forever and makes me want to start my own wellness/running blog! Although I really appreciate all the women blogs…I wish there were more with the male perspective.

  4. Pingback: Respect the Bird
  5. Actually, my boyfriend’s sister’s pug LOVES water too. She wasn’t sure about it at first, but now when we go up to their cottage, we can’t keep her out of the water! If we aren’t sure where she is, we just have to check the beach and sure enough there she is splashing around. 🙂

  6. Thanks Tina for posting this blog, definitely generated interest & good feedback. We will be sure to check these all out! I will have a happy hubby now 🙂

  7. that marinade for the broccoli looks delish! and luckily i have all those ingredients after making these awesome asian noodles last week 🙂

  8. That broccoli recipe sounds delicious! I love roasted veggies. I had to really look at the wine glass in the pic, but it looks like it says Truro on it. I live in CT and my husband and I did the Coastal Wine Trail last year. That is the only vineyard we didn’t make it to! Have you been to that vineyard? We hope to make a weekend trip out that way next summer. ~Leslie
