My beloved Canon S90 has officially bit the dust. Wahhh. I knew it was bound to happen soon, but I hoped my camera would make it until the end of the year. Sadly, no luck.
I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but over the past several weeks, my photos have gotten less and less clear. Editing makes them a bit better, but the quality of my photos has definitely gone down hill. Just look at the white haze around most of the objects in my photos. This post is a perfect example.
I use my camera all of the time, so I’m not surprised it died. I just loved my S90 so much, I didn’t want to buy a new camera. I actually might upgrade to the Canon S95, which is a similar camera. Please let me know if you have any opinions on the S95!
Snack
After Body Pump this morning, I whipped up a couple of smoothies for Mal and me.
These may have been the most nutritious smoothies I have ever made. In the mix:
- Frozen banana
- Frozen mango
- Carrot
- Soy milk
- Greek yogurt
- Vanilla protein powder
- Mushroom powder
- Strawberry-banana flax oil (from my friends at OpenSky)
Grrrr! White haze!
Mal and I took our smoothies to go because we had plans to meet a couple of our friends at the Ski & Snowboard Expo at the Seaport Hotel.
Mal wanted to buy a bunch of new snowboard gear, so he shopped around at the expo and saved a ton of money. Our friends also saved a buttload of money on skis, bindings, boots, and poles. The expo had some awesome deals! (If you’re interested, the expo goes through Sunday!)
I didn’t need any new gear, so I wandered around and checked out the fun ski accessories.
And entered a bunch of giveaways. I want to win a ski weekend and/or a wheelbarrow full of wine!
Lunch
After all of that expo-ing, we headed over to The Whiskey Priest for some food and beer.
I had a Shock Top Pumpkin Wheat, which I liked a lot. I’m not usually a wheat beer fan, but I liked this one! Nice pumpkin flavor.
And a chicken salad sandwich with fries.
SHAPE Magazine Giveaway
Thanks to everyone who entered! Here’s your winner:
Brianne
Catching up with my DVR seems to be the thing I do most to unwind but a good massage/reading in bed are pretty high on the list!
Congrats, Brianne! Please email me at tina@carrotsncake.com with your full name and mailing address to claim your prize.

Bummer on the camera, but it’s always fun to upgrade (just not as fun to dish out the dough!). Have a great weekend!
I have an s95 so feel free to email me if you have questions.
Sorry to hear about the camera, but hey, now you’ll be able to get an even better camera! š
Your hazy pics look kind of like an instagram filter. haha
Sorry about your camera, but it sounds like you got your money’s worth with it. I know very little about the S95, except that a lot of bloggers seem to use it.
Enjoy your wild and crazy Friday night! š
I tasted that Shock Top Pumpkin wheat for the first time this week. Love it!
My family would go to to the Ski & Snow Expo in our city every year. We would buy our lift tickets on extra discount!
And chicken salad is by far my favorite salad…I’m seriously hungry after seeing your pic.
mushroom powder?! interesting. could you taste it in the smoothie? i love mushrooms, but wouldn’t think to mix it with sweet.
so sorry about the camera… what a bummer. at least now you get to pick out a new one!
I’m sorry to hear about your camera! š I’m in need of a new powershot too… I’m thinking it’ll be on my Christmas wish list!
Those smoothies you made sound so good and packed with some good stuff!! I’m sure it had some staying power.
Enjoy your relaxing Friday evening!
Is the Canon S90 an SLR? I’m going to buy an SLR this week…likewise if you have any recommendations!
No, it’s a point-and-shoot, but the best one out there! I love it!
A wheelbarrow of wine sounds like a good prize to me!!!!
I know, right!?! I made a donation and entered, so I hope I get a phone call! š
Sorry about your camera. The hazy pictures actually look pretty cool! š Hope you have a great night! DVR and emails (and some beer) sounds marvelous. Crazy that last week you were getting ready for the marathon. š
Sorry to hear about your camera! I hope you find a new one soon š
I love the wheelbarrow of wine š
I wanted to buy that flavored-swirl flaxseed oil…but it was $25 !!!! Holy crap.
I think it’s a lot cheaper on OpenSky! š
Do you snowboard too?
Do you have the new iphone 4s? It actually has 8 megapixels now which is comparable to most point and shoot cameras!
I’ve snowboarded a few times, but I’m a much better skiier! š
Ahh sorry about the camera! I have really bad luck with cameras. Happy friday! š
Bummer about your camera…I take it you don’t want to do the iphone pics + editing for every day shots and for your really “special” shots, break out your DSLR? I just find that having a point & shoot is an extra “step” or yet another! camera š But I know some people love theirs. I do the iphone + DSLR combo and it works for me…but I also edit everything in LR3. That takes iphone pics from grainy to post-able for me š
When I travel or go to events, I pretty much only use my S90 now. My DSLR is too big and awkward for me to deal with at those type of things. At home, I use my DSLR a lot more. I use my iPhone sometimes too, but I agree, those pics aren’t the best quality!
I have to get over to the expo this weekend – that wheel barrel o’ wine sounds amazing. The actual ‘ski’ stuff does too š
i do love my s95 – esp. taking videos!
I work at the World Trade Center – Shame on you for not asking me to lunch! š That’s a bummer about your camera!
oh no! š well if it counts for anything I didn’t notice that your picks were looking bad!
OH sad about the camera!! But YAH for going to BodyPUMP–that is a good day right there š
They just came out with a Canon s100, if you’re looking to upgrade. Having said that, the prices on the s95 have dropped significantly.
I’m debating making the leap to a dSLR from my current camera (a fancy super-zoom point & shoot) or getting a s95/s100/G12. I’m interested to see what you end up getting.
Mushroom powder?? interesting…can u taste it at all?
Nope!
I love my s95. LOVE. If you’re not going with a DSLR, then IMO it’s the best option out there, especially since you know the Canon menus already. I definitely recommend Richard Franiec’s custom grip to go with it (it’s around $32 and worth every penny – the camera fits in your hand so much better with it). From everything I’ve read the s100 is not *that* much of an improvement, and it’s currently about $100 more than the s95.
Good to know! Thanks!
The same thing just happened to me…my camera died. rip. I bought the Nikon P300 & LOVE IT! I guess I’m just a Nikon kinda gal! A bucket full of wine sounds awesome. š
Sorry for your beloved camera, Canon S95 is cool but a new Samsung NX200 is fantastic.

Irish from my mothers side too. Irish throw the best parties and cook the best stew!
Sorry to hear about your camera! It’s always sad to see the old go (especially when you love it) but I’ll bet you’ll love the new edition even more. š
I hope so!
Sorry about the camera! Smoothies sound great though š
Sorry about your camera, the same thing happened to me recently. Look into the Canon Loyalty program. You can send your broken Canon camera in and they will send you a refurbished camera, (you would never know it was refurbished) You can upgrade for a little $$ or you can stick with your original camera. Its a great way to get a new camera for less money than if you were to go out and get one at the store. Best of luck!
My S95 is by far the best purchase I have made in the last year. I had a hard time justifying the cost since I have a DSLR but I use it so much more often than that big camera, so I feel that I made the right decision. That said, I’ve never used an S90 so I don’t know what the differences would be but for the small price difference, I would go for the S95.
R.I.P. Camera š
I’ve had my point-and-shoot Canon for at least 4 years, and I’m terrified of the day it will no longer work (knock on wood)! It’s never let me down.
I have the S95 and ADORE it! Highly recommend!
I still use a 5 pixel Nikon Coolpix. It takes pretty good photos for what I use it for. For the longest time I was using my iPhone 3Gs for pictures but it takes terrible indoor pictures.
