Happy New Kids on the Block Day!!!

I have a feeling that most of you probably forgot about this special holiday. That’s okay. It actually might only be celebrated here in Massachusetts.

Did you know that Massachusetts declared April 24, 1989, “New Kids on the Block Day,” and, every year since, I’ve celebrated? Ok, that second part is a total lie. The only reason I remember (this random holiday) is because NKOTB Day is the same day as my Uncle Mark’s birthday, which, in 1989, my cousin, Meeghan and I were psyched about! We were such huge fans! I had the biggest crush on Joey. I even wore a black hat just like his. Man, I was so stylish back then.

Ok, let’s get to the real holiday of the day”¦

Happy Easter!!

I celebrated Easter at my grandparents’ house where we enjoyed a huge, awesome brunch with lots of deliciousness.

I helped myself to a little bit of everything.

And a lot of dessert.

I hope you had a wonderful Easter!

I’m off to listen to my favorite New Kids cassette tape, which is Hangin’ Tough.

Were you a NKOTB fan? What was your favorite album?

  1. I was a huge NKOTB fan! When I was a kid, I would pray every night before bed, “God, please let me marry Joe McIntyre when I grow up.” Haha. I saw them in a concert last year, and they were right in front of me. I felt like I was 10 years old again! My favorite album was definitely the Hangin’ Tough album. Classic!

  2. What a wonderful Easter! Just looking at the pictures is making me full.

I was a bit too young to really get into NKOTB. I was more into the BSB. Can’t wait for the show in June! 🙂

  3. That lamb cake is TOO cute! Last Thanksgiving, my friend made a cake in the shape of a Turkey and it was so adorable that we didn’t want to cut it (obviously we dug in soon enough ;)!

  4. Wow – what a blast from the past NKOTB!! They were the first ever group that i saw in concert, i remember going into school the next day with my baseball cap on that i had bought at the concert! That was many many years ago now….Joey was my favourite too – so cute! It’s so nice that we are the same age Tina, it’s great to remember all the things that you do!

  5. OH MY! YES! I was a HUGE NKOTB fan. I had the earrings, the tshirts, the bed spread, all the tapes, everything. In fact, for my 8th birthday, my parents took me to the USA, to Houston, Texas, to go to a New Kids concert. I was *sure* that Joey would see me in the crowd, fall in love with me, and we would get married and be together forever. I have no idea why that didn’t work out…

Your Easter spread looks amazing! What delicious food!

  6. I love that your family had a lamb cake, we used to have one too every year! My favorite NKOTB day song was “Right Stuff”!

  7. I think I was too sheltered as a kid. I remeber being on the playground and everyone was talking about NKOTB and I though they were talking about a cute new boy at school. I didn’t know their songs until later on. I feel like a piece of my youth is missing!

  8. I was a huge NKOTB fan. I remember begging my dad to buy me the album when I got good grades. Then I wore it out in my tape player. There will never be anything like Hanging Tough and all the songs on that album. I think I might still own the cassette. 🙂

  9. Oh oh ohOHoh…that’s a beautiful brunch! Looks like you had an amazing time with family! Love when there are so many people that you need to create a buffet!

My sister was a NKOTB fan, and since I wanted to be like her I was as well. I stole her NKOTB beach towel….

  10. OMG Yessssss. I was just the right age to be craaaazy about NKOTB! I had a door poster that I used to kiss goodnight every single night.

Remember the Christmas album? have a funky funky christmas!

  11. I loved Jordan knight as an elementary schooler….and I think step by step was my favorite album. When I was in second grade, I lied to one of my best friends and told her that my parents were also taking me to the new kids concert that night because I was super jealous that she was getting to go. My parents not only weren’t taking me, but they didn’t allow me to go to a concert for another 10 years. I saw the ska band “reel big fish” for my first concert at the Fillmore when I was a senior in high school.

But how i wish Jordan had been my first! 😉

  12. I remember getting my only New Kids t-shirt (after begging for it forever) and the day I got it, I ripped a hole in it by getting it caught on a fence. I cried for a week, I was so mad!

  13. HUGE NKOTB fan! I used to stalk their house(s) in Dot. I had the sleeping bag, trading cards, etc. Finally went to my first NKOTB concert when they had their come back a few years ago!

  14. NKOTB all the way! I’m actually going to see them and the Backstreet Boys in July. CAN. NOT. WAIT.

And I will now have Please Don’t Go Girl in my head all night…

  15. I had NO IDEA it was NKOTB day! I loved, no LOVE them! I loved Joey, he was so dreamy;-) I went two years ago when they toured. I’m also considering going this year, since they’re touring with BSB!!!
