Happy Murphday

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Guess who turned four years old yesterday? Yep, our little pug is a year older. I still remember the day we got him. He was so tiny and now he’s all grown up. I still can’t believe he’s four. Where does the time go?

Murphy’s friend, Clark, was one of the first dogs to wish him a happy birthday yesterday. (Batman sent a text message with some birthday wishes.) Clark actually wished him a “happy Murphday.” Haha! Love it!

Like Mal, Murphy didn’t want a big to-do for his birthday (like last year’s celebration), so we kept things low-key with a ride in the car (while Mal and I hung signs for a yard sale we hosted this morning) and”¦

”¦ a peanut butter Kong!

Murphy was pumped about his special birthday treat and spent quite awhile licking every last bit of peanut butter out of it. He definitely indulged on his birthday.

This morning, Murphy had a tough time getting out of bed. He was tired and sort of cranky, so I’m guessing he had a peanut butter hangover.

Or maybe he snuck out of the house and partied with Ping last night? (I still can’t get over this photo. It makes me laugh every time I see it!)

Mal and I also had a tough time getting out of bed this morning. I’m not sure why exactly””I guess we both just had a bad night of sleep. I figured some iced coffee would help us wake up, so I headed to Starbucks first thing this morning.

Two Starbucks Iced Coffees

Back at home, I ate breakfast and then set up for our yard sale. Mal and I did a major spring cleaning a couple of months ago, so we decided to yard sale some of the stuff we no longer wanted.

Things went well today””I still can’t believe how many people stopped by””and we got rid of a lot “good junk.” Our basement, where we’ve been storing the yard sale stuff, looks so open and empty now. It felt great to finally get all of that stuff out of our house!

Murphy, of course, enjoyed the yard sale today. He was in full on “pug mayor” mode.

Pug Good Life

Once things ended with the yard sale, Mal and I wanted lunch. It was such a beautiful day, we decided to visit the beer garden at the Scarlet Oak Tavern in Hingham. We actually heard the food wasn’t all that great, but we wanted to try it for ourselves.

Plus, the beer garden looked sweet””and it was! Besides the tables, there was a big comfy couch area with a huge flat screen TV, which, of course, would be a great place to watch a (Bruins) game with friends. Hmm… might need to make that happen!

The food ended up being pretty good. I liked what I ordered (Scarlet Crab “Burger”), but it didn’t knock my socks off either. The thick, hand-cut French fries, however, were fabulous. I ate them all!

Lunch at Scarlett Oak Tavern

After lunch, we headed home. Mal (and Murphy) ended up falling asleep on the couch, but I had a ton of energy to burn, so I decided to go for a run at Pond Meadow Park. It was a gorgeous day, so I figured I should take advantage of it.

Pond Meadow Park

I ended up running 4 miles with some intervals mixed in. As soon as I saw these stairs (below), I just had to run up them. I did four sprints to the top with a jog down for each before continuing on my run. I love mixing up my workouts like this””it keeps things interesting!

Since the ZOOMA 10K, I’ve been slowing building up my mileage by 1/2 mile each week. I started with 3 miles and now I’m at 4. I can’t say I’m back into the groove with running (it’s still tough), but it’s slowly getting easier.

Questions of the Day

Do you celebrate your pet’s birthday?

Are you a fan of yard sales?

P.S. Be sure to enter my giveaway to win a $100 gift card to City Sports! I’ll pick a winner on Monday!

  1. Happy Birthday Murphy! Funny friends and I were just talking about our pets birthdays today and I absolutely celebrate them! Or at least the birthday I gave then since my dog and cat are both adopted from shelters. They get a new toy, get sung to and when they were younger a special birthday dinner. Fun!

  2. Happy birthday Murphy!! SO funny- I can remember you talking about wanting to get him when you were visiting SC. You know we celebrate Frank’s birthday every year!

  3. Just curious…how do you order your iced coffees at Starbucks? I’m hoping they get almond milk as an option soon!

  4. Happy, happy birthday to Murphy!
Being a crazy dog parent, we most definitely celebrate our pup’s birthday! He turned six last week and, despite the cold and rain, we took him to the river valley to walk the trails.

  5. Happy Murphday!

Our lab had his 7th birthday on Thursday – where does the time go! We celebrated with a marrow bone & a playdate with his bestie (lab over the road)!

Love garage sales (yard sales), I am in the process of cleaning out stuff now and the pile is getting bigger! Can’t wait to get rid of it – I love de-cluttering!

  6. We do celebrate my Shih Tzu’s Birthday. Most years, he gets a little filet mignon for his birthday dinner (which he eats in all of 20 seconds!). 🙂

  7. We do car boot sales here in Ireland, there on every weekend usually held in supermarket or school car parks…great fun! Used to love them as a kid. Only problem is you go to get rid of stuff you don’t want and end up buying more bits to fill it’s place!

  8. Yes, We do celebrate Bernie’s birthday every year. Our neighbors adopted his sibling, Maxie so all 8 of us (the 2 families) get together every year, sing and enjoy a birthday cake!

  9. Wish we had a yard so we could have a sale to get rid of a bunch of stuff that is too good to throw away but we have no use for it!

Seriously, that pup is too cute! We definitely celebrated our pups birthdays but we had 2 so they basically got 2 birthdays each!

  10. Happy Birthday Murphy!
Yes–we ‘celebrate’ doggie birthdays…usually entails an extra treat or bone.
My mom hangs laundry outside to dry and last weekend someone drove up to their garage and was looking through the clothing…they thought it was a yard sale but it was just clean laundry!

  11. My finance and I had our first yard sale yesterday! We both had our own houses and when we merged, there were a lot of doubles. It was win win day – got rid of some stuff, made a bit of $ and the rest of the stuff is going to Good Will. The fact that we had a beautiful day made it so much more enjoyable.

  12. My dog turns 1 on Nov. 9th of this year and you can bet I will celebrate. He’s like my child. I love the PB kong idea…might just have to steal that. Happy birthday to Murphy!

  13. Aw, happy birthday Murphy! I looooove that tired picture of him. Too funny.
We definitely celebrate our dogs’ birthdays. Last year was Ella’s first, and I wasn’t able to come home from school, so that was a bummer, but I’ll make up for it this year! 🙂

  14. Really off topic, but something you might be interested in – I work in a library and we just had therapy dogs come for a “read to a dog” program. Kids basically read to them because it’s less stresfull and they really believe the dog is a willing listener. I know in NY it’s through Bidawee, but they do it all over the country. I believe there’s a Bidawee Copley Square, if it’s something you’d be interested in having Murphy do – I know he’s doing therapy dog stuff now =) It’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Happy birthday to murphy!!

  15. You know, I might just have to start celebrating my pet’s bday! just went to choose which 2 week old kitten I want to get when they are weened! soooo excited! Can’t wait to have her in the house!

Happy murphday ! I had to lol at the peanut butter hangover!

  16. Happy Murphday! The hangover picture had me in stitches! We don’t have a pet yet (boo hiss) we just move every 2-3 years with the military and while a lot of people still do it, we find it too stressful on us and the potential pet to do that.
On a happier note, we LOVE yard sales, although have never thrown one ourselves. Usually I just gather the goods and head to Salvation Army/Goodwill.

  17. Happy birthday to Murphy! We always celebrate our pug’s birthday! We buy him presents and go all out. Pug power!

  18. I don’t do a lot more than a big “Happy Birthday!” but I do use Petsmart coupons to get them nice treats. My cat, Jane, just turned six this past week, and like a horrible mommy, I forgot until the day after. She’s forgiven me, but I’ve been giving her extra attention to make up for it. Her brother’s fifth birthday’s next week, so we’ll see if I forget his, too.

  19. Just started reading your blog and your dog is adorable! My dog is 12 and since we don’t know what her actual birthday is we don’t celebrate it. I’m thinking I should start anyway just to find a reason to celebrate!

  20. Happy Birthday to Murphy!! We have 2 dogs and we celebrate both their birthdays and their “gotcha days” (both are rescue dogs so this is the day we adopted them). We found a local cupcake place that makes doggie cupcakes – so we’ll often pick up a couple of those on those special days as well as some cupcakes for us humans too 🙂

  21. Hi,
happy birthday Murph! I am so excited because yesterday I bought a black Pug! I always wanted one and Murphy just gave me the last push to just go ahead with it. His name is Max and he is 7 months old.

  22. Such precious pictures. I celebrate my pets’ birthdays when I know them. I feel horrible that I don’t know my Beagle Basset’s birthday as I rescued him (he gets treated like every day is his birthday anyway) but I have a cat who was born on my front porch that I raised and kept so I know his birthday and make him a wet cat food cake every year complete with a candle.
