Guess who turned four years old yesterday? Yep, our little pug is a year older. I still remember the day we got him. He was so tiny and now he’s all grown up. I still can’t believe he’s four. Where does the time go?
Murphy’s friend, Clark, was one of the first dogs to wish him a happy birthday yesterday. (Batman sent a text message with some birthday wishes.) Clark actually wished him a “happy Murphday.” Haha! Love it!
Like Mal, Murphy didn’t want a big to-do for his birthday (like last year’s celebration), so we kept things low-key with a ride in the car (while Mal and I hung signs for a yard sale we hosted this morning) and”¦
”¦ a peanut butter Kong!
Murphy was pumped about his special birthday treat and spent quite awhile licking every last bit of peanut butter out of it. He definitely indulged on his birthday.
This morning, Murphy had a tough time getting out of bed. He was tired and sort of cranky, so I’m guessing he had a peanut butter hangover.
Or maybe he snuck out of the house and partied with Ping last night? (I still can’t get over this photo. It makes me laugh every time I see it!)
Mal and I also had a tough time getting out of bed this morning. I’m not sure why exactly””I guess we both just had a bad night of sleep. I figured some iced coffee would help us wake up, so I headed to Starbucks first thing this morning.
Back at home, I ate breakfast and then set up for our yard sale. Mal and I did a major spring cleaning a couple of months ago, so we decided to yard sale some of the stuff we no longer wanted.
Things went well today””I still can’t believe how many people stopped by””and we got rid of a lot “good junk.” Our basement, where we’ve been storing the yard sale stuff, looks so open and empty now. It felt great to finally get all of that stuff out of our house!
Murphy, of course, enjoyed the yard sale today. He was in full on “pug mayor” mode.
Lunch
Once things ended with the yard sale, Mal and I wanted lunch. It was such a beautiful day, we decided to visit the beer garden at the Scarlet Oak Tavern in Hingham. We actually heard the food wasn’t all that great, but we wanted to try it for ourselves.
Plus, the beer garden looked sweet””and it was! Besides the tables, there was a big comfy couch area with a huge flat screen TV, which, of course, would be a great place to watch a (Bruins) game with friends. Hmm… might need to make that happen!
The food ended up being pretty good. I liked what I ordered (Scarlet Crab “Burger”), but it didn’t knock my socks off either. The thick, hand-cut French fries, however, were fabulous. I ate them all!
Workout
After lunch, we headed home. Mal (and Murphy) ended up falling asleep on the couch, but I had a ton of energy to burn, so I decided to go for a run at Pond Meadow Park. It was a gorgeous day, so I figured I should take advantage of it.
I ended up running 4 miles with some intervals mixed in. As soon as I saw these stairs (below), I just had to run up them. I did four sprints to the top with a jog down for each before continuing on my run. I love mixing up my workouts like this””it keeps things interesting!
Since the ZOOMA 10K, I’ve been slowing building up my mileage by 1/2 mile each week. I started with 3 miles and now I’m at 4. I can’t say I’m back into the groove with running (it’s still tough), but it’s slowly getting easier.
