Remember my Great Gym Debate post from the other day? Well, you guys definitely made me think twice about jumping into a new membership. Thank you!! š
So, I’ve decided to wait until the fall to possibly join the new gym. I actually didn’t have a great experience my first time visiting. I went on a walk the other day and popped in to check out the place. I didn’t workout, but I tried to get a week-long or 3-day trial pass to test out the facilities at a later date. Unfortunately, this gym doesn’t do trial offers. Bummer. š The staff person gave me a single day pass, but I’m not sure going once would be enough time to know if it would fit into my lifestyle, ya know?
Once the fall rolls around, I’ll probably revisit joining this new gym. Maybe they’ll have a special deal or something? Until then, I’m going to make the best of my current gym membership– I guess I just need to try a little harder. Plus, I love walking, and hopefully, I’ll be running again soon, so exercising outside shouldn’t be a problem once the nice weather is here to stay.
Dinner
Mal and I had the Early Bird Special for dinner tonight! We typically eat dinner pretty early, but today was ridiculous. I think we were done eating by 5:15 pm!
Neither one of us was in the mood to cook dinner, so we kept things simple. We had tuna melts on toasted Ezekiel Bread with shredded cheese. Nothing fancy, but it was tasty.
On the side, we hadĀ Oven Roasted Broccoli that a reader suggested to me last week.
I ended up eating two servings. I pretty much love anything with breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese!Ā Delish! š
Dessert
For dessert, I am baking a batch of Chocolate Chip Cookies from the Gluten Free Pantry that the company sent me to sample. I’ve never baked anything gluten-free, so I’m not really sure what to expect… but the cookie mix has A LOT of chocolate chips in it! Can’t go wrong there! š
Trading Up Downtown
Check out my double grocery shopping trip this week: Shop, Trade, Save. I’m eating out almost every night, but somehow ended up spending a crapload of money! Blah. š

Off to enjoy some TV and chocolate chip cookies!
Goooooood night!
P.S. Tickets to this year’s Healthy Living Summit go on sale in less than an hour! Ahhh! I’m excited (and nervous)!

I’m sure you’ll find what works best for you in terms of working out! š I go back and forth between sometimes having a gym membership and sometimes not. The summer is a great time to try something new and spend more time outdoors. š
I’ll be interested to hear how the mix is! I swear by Bob’s Red Mill
Haha you think YOU’RE nervous!? You don’t have to fight the crazy fast ticket competition!!
I joined a gym for the pool. I do everything else outside!
Early bird special…lol. I do that about once a week
The roasted broccoli looks delish!
Good luck with making the most of your current gym membership! For the past 4 years, I’ve been joining gyms, not using them much, quitting and then joining a new one and starting the whole thing over! It’s hard to fit a gym membership into a lifestyle that’s not necessarily the regular 9-5 routine.
I think you made the right decision on joining the second gym. Check out how things go for awhile and then see if you really need it.
Excited to see how the cookies turn out….chocolate chip cookies are the best!
its crazy how roasting broccoli makes it taste totally different! so good!
love that breadcrumbs add-on to the broc! and anything with chocolate should be just fine š
You can’t go wrong with parm cheese, breadcrumbs or chocolate chips! What delicious eats:)
OMG they only give a single day pass?! That seems a little ridic to me.!
WE always eat the early bird special…I’m a granny.
I can’t believe they don’t do any passes except for single day- thats pretty annoying and not a good business practice if you ask me. Waiting until fall sounds like a good idea to me.
I wish HLS was in Boston again!
haha I have been eating roasted brocc recently like it is going out of fashion!
I’m glad you thought it out. It would be super costly to just try it out it sounds like.
Good call on waiting for joining that gym! They are silly NOT to let you try it for a week- they lose a customer right off the bat!
You really can’t go wrong with chocolate chips! š
I’m so happy that my new job has a gym on-site. That will help me save money and (hopefully) motivate me to go since I’m already at the office.
I’m an early bird eater too. I don’t want to eat to close to bed time. I like at least 3 0r 4 hrs before bed.
I’m definitely NOT a gym person. I’m totally not a runner and enjoy dancing or yoga more. Wish the summit was closer to me so I could go!! Sure it will be a sucess again this year : )
I love roasted broccoli or cauliflower!! Good choice about the gym. You can always go ahead and get a membership if you decide you really want to. I always eat dinner as soon as I get home from work to avoid snacking and because I’m hungry. Often, it’s around 4:30 or 5.
I make the PERFECT gluten free cookie…in fact I think these are even better than regular ones with flour, and half the mess and clean up!
1 egg
1 c. peanut butter
3/4 c. sugar or brown sugar (I’ve used both and each turn out fine)
as many chocolate chips as you want…
Mix, bake and eat! So good…
I actually prefer gluten free baked goods depending on the flours they use. I hope your cookies turn out well. My husband has celiac, so I like to find new products for him! Enjoy your evening!
I love tuna melts – plus they are filling! Great dinner. I got my Healthy Living Summit ticket WAHOO!!!
glad you decided not to jump into a new membership right away!
I wish i could go to the healthy living summit. have one down south!
Please give a cookie review! I’m sure they are not the same as regular ones, but finding a good GF brand is hard to come by š
I second the review! I am embarking on a gluten-free diet next week for a strongly suspected gluten intolerance through my dietician and am nervous about finding good products!
I think you made a good decision on the gym membership! š
I JUST BOUGHT MY TICKET TO THE HEALTHY LIVING SUMMIT!!! WOOO HOOO! š
As far as mixes (especially GF ones) go, that one is pretty solid. Enjoy the chocolate goodness!
I think I was barely finished with lunch at 5:15! My work schedule is weird and I like to have dinner on the late side to prevent late night snacking, but I say eat whenever it works for you.
Just got my ticket to the Healthy Living Summit woo hoo!!!!!
Gluten free stuff is good as long as you don’t expect them to be exactly like the regular thing. But they can be good.
Oooh, now I feel embarrassed that I’ve been roasting broccoli just plain! Definitely gotta get some parmesan action going on there š
i’m sure the cookies will still taste delicious – some of the best ones i’ve had from whole foods are gluten free and vegan!
I would also love to hear how you like the cookies. I really liked pamela’s fluten free chocolate chunk cookies but they definitely weren’t your typical choc chip cookie. I am jealous you ate so early since we usually eat way too late!
Wow, 5.15 – that is early! If I had dinner at 6.30 I’d be thinking ‘ my, this is early…’!!
Have a good day š
I think your gym decision was wise, especially since the weather is great this time of year and you can do more outside. I’m glad I’m not the only early bird! I usually eat dinner around 5:30 and people laugh at me!
What brand/kind of tuna did you use for the melts? Mine neer looks that good.
@Brigid Bauer: Sunkist, I think? Whatever is on sale.
Sometimes a nice tuna melt is just whatcha need! I love them sometimes.
I’m the opposite – I usually eat dinner late! I like to think it’s “European” of me, but really, I just don’t get my act together until at least 7:30. The last few weeks we’ve been rocking the 9PM dinner time!
Parmesan cheese makes everything better!! Good idea waiting until the Fall.. the summer is so nice you don’t want to spend time being locked up at the gym!
Oh fun, you made the recipe I sent you. Our tastes are pretty similar so I just knew you would love it š
Wait, you made it with breadcrumbs instead of panko? I haven’t tried that but would imagine it’s similar, just not as crunchy…..
