Aaron and Beth

Hi Carrots N’ Cake readers! My name is Beth and I, along with my friend Aaron, have a foodie blog of our own over at www.CrossBorderCravings.com. We’re so grateful to Tina for letting us guest-post today as we are huge fans of Carrots N’ Cake!

For our post topic I thought it would be interesting to explore how friends can influence one another’s healthy (or not so healthy) decisions. After three months of backpacking Europe together, this is something that Aaron and I understand only too well!

Aaron and I met in our first year of University and ended up being roommates for four years. During that time I know that we both watched what we ate and made working-out a priority, although we did share some of those not-so-healthy college habits too!

After graduating we took the trip of a lifetime around Europe. Although we walked, walked, walked all day everyday, our eating habits became out-of-control! With so many new countries and new cuisines we both rooted each other on, ending up with both of us eating much more than we ever would at home. Because Aaron was doing it I felt justified and because I was doing it I know Aaron felt the same.

By the time we got home 3 months later we had both gained a significant amount of weight. You can see the difference in these pictures!

Not only had we gained weight, we both felt awful. How had we let ourselves eat so much!? As Tina has discussed, there is certainly a way to enjoy a vacation without going so overboard. Unfortunately that is not something either of us recognized at the time.

Since our return, both have us have lost those Europe pounds and then some and are both more healthy than ever with our food and exercise decisions. I think we can both agree we never want to look or feel like that again!

These days we support one another in making good health decisions. We both love to cook healthy meals and work-out together whenever we do have the chance to visit each other. We also both enjoy treats, but treat them as just that!! Although we live far away now we’re been able to stay well-connected through our blog and share what we’re doing to stay in-shape in our respective countries.

Do you ever let friends influence your food and exercise decisions?

Thanks so much for reading everyone!! We’d love to hear from you over at www.CrossBorderCravings.com.
