Guess Who’s Moving?!?!?

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Yep, Mal, Murphy, and I have decided to move… again. Especially after the Move from Hell, you probably think we are totally crazy. Well, we are, but a lot of things have changed since we signed our lease back in August:

  • I no longer work in Cambridge. Mal and I actually work within a mile of each other, so there’s no point of having such a long commute.
  • I no longer have a Harvard income to pay such an expensive rent.
  • I no longer take public transportation to work, so I don’t need T access anymore.
  • We have 2 cars now, which means street parking in Southie is more of a headache.
  • We want to buy a house sooner than later, and our current rent doesn’t allow us to save much money.
  • Murphy wants a yard.

As you can see, things have changed quite a bit in 6 months.

Our landlord has been absolutely amazing through this whole thing. She’s allowing us to break our lease as long as we can find someone to sublet our place through the end of August. She’s leaving the whole process up to us, including “weeding out the weirdos,” so Mal and I put a posting on Craigslist with the hope of finding some good tenants.

If you know anyone looking to move to Southie, please have them contact me. Feel free to send our Craigslist posting to anyone who might be interested. I also made a video tour of apartment, so feel free to share that too.

And, on the flip side, if you know anyone looking to rent an apartment on the South Shore (Quincy, Braintree, Milton, Weymouth, Hingham, etc.), please let me know. Once we find someone to take over our lease, we need somewhere to live!

Oh, the stress in my life! 😕

I made a 3-Minute Cookie for breakfast this morning. I substituted the flour for Vega Smoothie Infusion and it turned out great. I bet protein powder would work just as well.

On the side, I had some apple slices.

And, the most amazing, iced latte made with non-fat milk, agave nectar, and cinnamon.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm!

Sorry that I’ve been avoiding your questions about my iced lattes. I can’t tell you how I make them quite yet, but I will! Promise! In the meantime, you can check out how I made iced coffee at home. 😉

Question of the Day

How many times have you moved in your life?

I have a radio interview this afternoon and I am SO NERVOUS! Ahh! 😯

P.S. If someone wants to recalculate the nutritional information for my 3-Minute Oatmeal Raisin Cookie, I’d be ever so grateful. I’m still not sure it’s correct!

  1. I can’t believe you’re moving again. I loved your apartment in the pictures, but I understand how it’s not reasonable for you guys anymore. Best of luck in finding tennants and a new great place!!

  2. Good luck with the move! I hope you find someone to sublet and another apartment soon! I have moved 10 times in my life (3 houses as a kid and 7 houses or apartments in college…) so I am ready to settle down and stop being such a nomad!

  3. I love your blog btw! i rarely comment, but i always look forward to reading yours before anyone else’s. I despise moving and i’ve done it countless times. my husband and i are getting ready to make a cross-country move as a matter of fact. . . the crazy thing about it is that we made a cross-country move a couple years ago, moved back to california and now we’re taking another shot at moving back there again!! so no, you guys aren’t crazy, we are the crazy ones 🙂

  4. Ha ha – I have been married for 21 years and my husband and I have moved 10 times! Unbelievable! Although I despise moving, I love the “newness” to moving. I love uncovering my new neighbourhood, my new house, its’ personality, its’ hidden treasures. I also LOVE unpacking and rediscovering all the things I forgot about.
3 of those moves have been since we moved to Europe. We sometimes have the WORST luck….we are the ONLY people within our military community (my husband is a teacher at an International School serving military communities) to move 3 times and we may have a 4th move coming up.
So good luck – embrace the change 🙂

  5. Moving is the worst!

Before I moved to Florida and after I left Boston (Roslindale), I lived in Quincy, Braintree and Weymouth. I wish I could help – my friend’s mom works at a real estate place but they only have places to rent which are not Murphy friendly. It’s tougher when you’ve got a dog.

I lived at Avalon – and that was nice. Love the washer and dryer in the apartment. Being able to do laundry at home is heaven! And I think they are dog friendly. I lived at the one in Quincy, but I know people who live in the Weymouth one and they like it. I actually lived right next to that one at a place called Spanish Trace. That place is decent – but sadly they don’t take dogs.

My friend used to rent a house in Weymouth and she had two huge dogs. A house might be good. You’ll have more of your own backyard. She wasn’t even paying that much – no more than an apartment.

But I’m sure you’ll find something awesome. Good luck!

  6. How many times have I moved in my life?

Well until I hit college I had never moved. My grandpa was military and my dad moved around a lot as a kid so he vowed he would never move his own children.

The moment I hit 18 I started moving. I moved three times a year for about 5 years. I subletted apartments, changed roommates and generally became a nomad. It was great. I did student exchanges and internships. I prided myself that everything I owned could fit in my car. I have a list of the 29 roommates I had during college so I don’t forget their names.

Then in the ultimate move I joined Peace Corps and lived with multiple host families in the hilly parts of Panama where the roads were mud and cell signal and electricity had yet to reach.

To come full circle, I am now living in the same hometown I grew up in married to my highschool sweet heart. Strange how life works.

  7. Hope you find someone to rent your place! Life changes so quickly sometimes. My husband and I are currently living with my parents while we’re building a house which is definitely not what we planned but oh well!

  8. I am the same as Gab– I lived in the same house as my parents since I was one. When I went to college, I moved every year and one after! I am also planning on moving again this year! It’s so hard to stay in one spot when you have roomies.

  9. Good luck with the move. I’ve moved three times in the last 18 months. Probably will move again in 6 months. Ugh!

  10. Sounds like you have some good reasons to move! As much as it sucks, it does help you go through your stuff and maybe get rid of things you really don’t need.

I’ve moved way too many times…. but I haven’t moved since we bought and moved into our house in 2005. 🙂

  11. For a while, I moved every year for 5 years! My husband and I just moved to Duxbury after 4 years in Davis Square-it’s different being in the ‘burbs, but totally worth it! Let me know if you have any questions. Oh, and parking is sooooo much easier! (my sister just moved to Southie, so I know the headaches!)

  12. I moved about 12 times as a kid and since moving out of my parents house I have moved every 2 years or so. I love moving! My husband however has only moved a couple of times so when I get the itch to move.. which should be any minute… we may have issues.

  13. As a child (meaning until 18) I moved 19 times. In the 8 years I’ve been married we have moved 6 times. Four of those were in the same city though.

  14. haha! Dont panic. Call e a gipsy, but I’m getting ready to move into my 23rd home! That’s couting the 5 houses I lived with my family, then 14 different places in London, in 6 years (not much furniture there tho), then 4th one coming up living with my husband! So, really I know what it’s like, and I know that it’s not that bad… It’s so nbice to keep moving on up, mnproving your lifestyle, and taking on new challenges! Good luck!
