This dog has fleas!! But, he’s still freakin’ adorable! πŸ˜‰

Ugh. Fleas were not what I wanted to come home to today. πŸ˜•

We use Frontline on Murphy every month, but, unfortunately, it’s just not working. Maybe Murphy got a bad case of super fleas? Thankfully, he doesn’t seem to mind and hasn’t been scratching, but Mal and I are definitely not thrilled with the situation, especially since we can’t banish our dog from the house. There will be no pug in our bed tonight!

We called the vet earlier this evening, so we’re bringing Murphy in tomorrow to get a pill that should rid him of the fleas. Poor pup.

After dealing with the flea fiasco, Mal and I spent the evening at my in-laws’ house for dinner. Mal’s dad made his delicious “Out West Chicken” on the grill.

The marinade for the chicken is actually quite easy to make: just combine 1/2 cup olive oil with a packet of dry Italian seasoning and 1/4 cup of lemon juice. For best results, allow the chicken to marinate overnight in the refrigerator and grill on medium-low heat. Easy and delicious!

While my father-in-law fired-up the grill, Mal, my mother-in-law, and I hung out on the porch and chatted. We also shucked some corn.

Munched on crackers.

And drank Italian Blood Orange Soda from Trader Joe’s.

This stuff is delicious!

The mosquitoes started to get pretty bad as soon as the sun set, so we ate dinner inside.

We started with shrimp cocktail.

Then, freshly grilled Out West Chicken. I enjoyed a flavorful, moist drumstick.

And a piece of corn-on-the-cob.

We finished the meal with salad (like the French do). I drizzled a little peppercorn dressing on top of mine.

It’s going to be a late night. I have so much to do!!! 😯

  1. OMG fleas are currently my life right now. My two indoor cats got them and it has been IMPOSSIBLE to get rid of them. I have literally spent 100’s of dollars on sprays and medicines. Hopefully your vet gives you capstar. My vet gave me frontline which did nothing for my cats. I was brushing up to 30 fleas out of their hair a NIGHT until I got capstar. It kills all of the fleas but is only good for 24 hours… so you have to wash everything over and over and over. I have gone to multiple pet stores for advice and they just keep saying it’s a really bad time for them right now, it’s so hot and gross! Poor Murphy! πŸ™

  2. I want to highlight something important: it’s EASY to get rid of fleas on the animal! It’s that the fleas are in your house, on your furniture and on your linens!! That’s why they keep coming back! Borax, bleach and a spray flea killer for furniture – multiple times – and definitely again next week too. Fleas lay eggs immediately – and they will hatch in a few days…which is why they never SEEM to go away from the pets:)

It’s worse for the humans:) all that cleaning and washing. I went to a laundromat to wash everything and get it over with.

  3. I highly recommend diatomaceous earth. Safe, inexpensive and natural. Sprinkle on your dog and carpets. Just make sure you get the food grade type NOT the kind used in pools.

  4. Basil gets fleas every now and then – it just depends on where he is (like if we just took him camping) or if they are particularly bad that year. He didn’t get them last year and knock on wood, hasn’t gotten them this year. We never use Frontline on him to prevent – only if he does get fleas. If he does, then we do the Frontline to kill them and then wash EVERYTHING – bed sheets, beds, stuffed animals, etc. and vacuum all the rugs. That seems to do the trick and it’s never that big a deal. We’ve never used Borax or any other kind of powder when cleaning.

  5. Hey Tina, so funny, because my parents came home from one of our rental houses that has just been vacated and they left it invested with fleas. My dad came home from working on the house and brought home the fleas and gave them to my lilttle cockapoo Princess. Princess has been on Revolution and withing a day, the fleas didn’t even take to her. We just cleaned the house really well and got this “flea-free” spray and I think it’s all gone now. You should switch to Revolution– I think it’s more expensive but worth it.
