I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.


An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Anne is good influence on me. I wanted to sleep in this morning, but I joined her for a 4-mile run instead. I couldn’t let her go alone! Plus, I knew I was just being lazy. (Reason #55 that I need a local running buddy!)

I’m not gonna lie, I wasn’t psyched at the start of our run (as seen in the photo below), but I quickly changed my tune after the first mile or so.

Once my body was moving, it felt great to wake up and start my day with a heart-pumping workout. You never regret a workout!!!

At home, Anne and I stretched, foam rolled, and Tiger Tailed. Of course, the pug wasn’t far from the action. He’s also really thoughtful and wanted to help us with our post-run routine.

Murphy licked the salt off of Anne’s legs.

And then helped me got comfortable while I foam rolled.

Meanwhile, Mal cooked us Kodiak Cakes with vanilla protein powder mixed into the batter for breakfast.

I topped my Kodiak Cakes with a thick layer of sunflower butter and a drizzle of maple syrup. Mmm!

After eat two Kodiak Cakes, I went back for a third. They just tasted so delicious. I also drank an iced coffee mixed with soy milk and vanilla protein powder.

Are your friends a healthy influence on you? If so, how? If not, how?

P.S. Exciting news! Remember when I went to Rialto to film Jody Adams as part of a Food Network promotion and then my video was entered into a contest? Well, it won FIRST place!!! Wahoo! Thank you guys so, so, so much for your support and votes! I really appreciate it! You guys rule!



  1. I think my strongest healthy influences are my Mum and my brother when I think of health in an all-encompassing way. I have one girlfriend who is very into eating real, unprocessed food though so we keep each other adventurous in the kitchen.

  2. How awesome to have a motivating buddy! My roommate and I are fantastic influences on each other. We always get up at 4:45 to work out, and now we split days working the front desk at the gym, so we make sure the other is up and ready to go!

  3. My friend Lora is a pretty good influence on me. We always go to a yoga class together once a week, which keeps me sane and stretches me out. Otherwise we have pretty different workout styles. But we also both love healthy food!

  4. A lot of my friends are also interested in “healthy living” sorts of things, and many of them love to cook, so we’re always swapping recipes. As the RD-in-training, I get a lot of questions, but I learn new things from my friends all the time. To be honest, my family’s wine-loving side is the bad influence! I always wake up with a hangover after hanging out with my aunts!

  5. Congrats on the video Tina!

    I think most of my friends are good for me in the healthy/wellness area. One of my friends was a great influence even if we were both dragging when we hit the gym. Last year after I got a new job, our workouts together ended. It’s been hard not having a workout buddy but I’ve maintained my visits to the gym and other workouts. It’s just not the same though with out her!

  6. Ugh. I need a running buddy, too! Tough to find one with my crazy work/school schedule, though. LOVE the pancake idea and will be stealing it for my post-summer school celebratory breakfast in one week!

  7. Some of my friends are a healthy influence, while others are not. It’s the “others” that I’m trying to motivate…which I find helps me too 🙂

    Those are some yummy looking cakes! And yes, hubby of the year fo sure!

  8. I would like to say yes, but no. They’re not the healthiest bunch. My biggest motivation this past year has been my father, who at 65, walks about 2 to 3 miles a day and also bike. He’s lost weight also, and he’s really getting into shape. It just shows me that getting older is not that bad. 🙂

  9. It looked like this weekend on the East Coast was a rainy one! I just ran the Providence Half Marathon (which I think you were contemplating doing?) and it rained every single step of the way!

  10. A lot of my friends are bad influences on me. I can’t tell you how many times I say that I can’t go out for drinks because I have to go running and they give me crap for it and try to convince me.

  11. I am definitely the influencer (word?)! I love it this way though! It is normally strangers that I see that influence me in the gym etc to may push it for an extra minute or two… 🙂

  12. My sister is the BEST influence on me. If I ever feel like not working out I just have to call her and she’ll movtivate me to get going! And it is always extra motivating for me to think “you’ll never regret a workout”!

  13. Some friends are a good influence on me health-wise, and some are not. Sometimes it’s tough to stay health & do things with the less healthy ones because I end up eating more unhealthy foods than I planned to. :p

  14. I NEED a running buddy too! They can be so motivational. My sister and I trained for a marathon last summer when we were both home from college. It’s too bad, we live in two separate cities now!
