Mal and I are working hard to beautify the outdoor spaces at our home, so here’s just a fun post to share our progress so far. (We’re dorks and get excited about the little things in life! ;-)) Here’s what we’ve done so far:

Planted marigolds in the window boxes on the front of the house.

We planted cherry tomatoes, red peppers, broccoli, and lettuce. Let’s hope they grow!

  1. Oh fun! It’s funny because my husband owns a landscaping business and our landscaping needs a lot of help. You know what they say – the shoemaker’s children never have any shoes! I planted a big veggie garden in the back – so excited! We got a lot of rain today and when I got home I swear the plants grew a few inches.

  2. How cool! I wish I had a yard to do all that…someday soon, though I will!

I love flowers in the flowerbox<—-my mom is Swiss and EVERYone does this. It is a tradition I want to continue for sure.

    Your yard looks great 🙂

  3. Oh your gardening and landscaping efforts look wonderful! I admit that living in urban San Diego, I have no yard, no green spaces to tend to, but that’s ok! I am surrounded my beauty in my neighborhood without actually having to tend to it..best of both worlds.

    Love what you’ve done, Tina!

  4. We have HUGE patches of dead grass in our yard from grubs 🙁
Turning up the lawn and reseeding was a bitch, but luckily we’ve gotten so much rain that the grass is growing back really nicely (that, and we bought the Easy Seed stuff which is much less fickle than regular grass seed)

  6. Ha, my husband is obsessed with the grass growing and he keeps trying every weekend but I’m not sure our patches are going to grow! Your flowers look gorg : )

  7. I can’t wait to own my own home and plant a garden! It’ll be so nice for you and Mal to eat your own homegrown produce! Fun!

  8. Marigolds are great – they have such wonderful bright colors and are also known to be hardy plants. I love having my own veggies & herbs too, I should definitely get started on a small herb garden before it’s too late!

  9. it is so fulfilling to see your hard work in the garden pay off! we have a big veggie garden in the back & so far we have a few tomato plants starting to grow & the cucumbers have sprouted. i’m SO excited to be able to go into the garden and pull out some fresh vegetables. doesn’t get better than that!

love the sunshiney flowers too! 🙂

  10. I like the whole brightness makes you happy and I totally agree!! It’s always fun to have these little projects and see how far you progress!

  11. Tina I really love how home your home looks especially with the sun porch now! The gardening just adds to it! I wish I could plant some flowers but we live in a complex. Wonder if flower boxes would work on my balcony? Hmm.

  12. ive been seeing several bloggers growing their own gardens lately. I can’t wait to see how it all turns out; I’ve always wanted to have one but with apartment living and my non green thumb, I’d have no idea what I’m doing.

Think I can plant veggies in flower pots and put it on my balcony? it’s worth a try I suppose! To think I could just go to my garden whenever I wanted a tomato sounds like heaven to me!!

  13. I love the marigolds! They are so pretty! 🙂 I cannot wait until I own a house so that I can plant and have a garden! It doesn’t make sense for me to do all of that work now when we are just renting.
