GaGa, Oh La La

Let me start off by saying that I don’t really like pop music. Ok, I guess I like it, but I don’t love it. I mostly like pop because it makes for some great workout music. Artists like Kelly Clarkson, Pink, and Britney always seem to get me motivated. But, typically, my favorite genres of music are classic rock, 80’s rock, and singer/songwriters, like David Gray and Ray Lamontagne.

With that being said, I have a weird obsession with Lady Gaga. It’s very strange for me to like a pop artist so much, but I can’t seem to get enough of her music. I totally ROCK OUT to her songs. There’s just something about her music that I really enjoy.

Rah-rah-ah-ah-ah! Roma-Roma-ma-ah! Ga-ga-ooh-la-la! Want your bad romance.

For breakfast, I dug into my stash of Mad Hectic oatmeal. I went with the Raspberry Almond flavor this morning. Mmm!

I added some sliced almonds and a scoop of Teddie peanut butter to the mix.

And, of course, I had some iced coffee– Creme Brulee flavor this morning! 😉

Question of the Day

What’s your favorite type of music? Who are you loving right now?

P.S. Check out my favorite freebie websites over on Trading Up Downtown this morning!

  1. I love me a bit of pop music now and then – especially Britney! Though I’ll listen to anything, as long as it isn’t heavy metal – I HATE metal music 🙁 But anything else is a winner 🙂
    Have a good day!

  2. I’m not one to listen to much pop music when I’m working around the house or driving, but I’m all about it in the gym. It has to be the beat.

I wish we had a Dunkin Doughnuts closer than 1.5 hours away. I don’t think it would be very economical to drive that far for a free coffee. I’d spend more in gas than the coffee is worth!

  3. Mmmmm, i LOVE free iced coffee day!! (and free ice-cream day, and free pastry day, lol!)

I, too, have fallen under Lady Gaga’s spell. I didn’t really like Poker Face all that much when it came out, but her music has definitely grown on me.

Other than that I have pretty eclectic tastes. Pop, Rock, Metal, Techno, Classical, New Wave.
My newest music obsession is Bat for Lashes. Check her out!

  4. I hardly knew who GaGa was when I got back to America this christmas after living abroad for well over a year, and I was quickly educated when I couldn´t turn on the radio without hearing one of her songs! I have no access to new music so I am currently listening to whatever´s been on my ipod for a couple of years–sad!–but i must say i get SO excited when a GaGa song comes on my Shuffle when I am running. Instant energizer 🙂 Ro-ma, ro-ma-maaa!!!

  5. I LOVE me some Gaga. One of my college roommates became obsessed with her before she was so popular, and people thought we were crazy for liking such a “weirdo,” haha. But her eccentric-ism is why I love her the most! And it’s not like she just puts on a good show – her music is seriously awesome! Not to mention she always sings live and sounds amazing nonetheless.

I am SO bummed that there aren’t any Healthworks around me! If you can, will you put a word in to them about opening up in the Philly area? 🙂

  6. Oh I am a sucked for pop music, and it is a MUST when I work out. I don’t like anything like rock, metal or alternative. I like old granny music, like James Taylor, and easy listening/smooth jazz stuff.

  7. This is what I miss about living in MA: There’s a Dunkin Donuts close by, guaranteed. Down in VA, I couldn’t tell you where the nearest one is. Which means no free coffee for me. 🙁 I think I’m the least picky person when it comes to music. I just don’t listen to a lot and stick with old favorites for workouts. Boring, I know.

  8. I think we might be musical soulmates, Tina. Classic rock, singer songwriters, and 80s music are my true loves….but for some reason, Gaga has become a newfound obsession.

Why is her music SO goshdarn catchy??? How did she turn me into someone who actually enjoys hearing silly pop songs??? All these things are a mystery.

Bottom line: can’t explain it, but I like her songs. They help pump me up for workouts!

  9. I actually listen to a lot of different music genres. I like metal, some pop, rock, classic rock, etc. I like a lot of older bands like the Beatles and the Animals 🙂
With that said… I like Lady Gaga! I’m considering buying a ticket to see her in concert here in Portugal in December :p

  10. I really like mellow, slightly electronic stuff, like Imogen Heap and The Postal Service. But I’m with you…when it comes to working out music my taste is totally different! For me, rap music always gets me moving :).

  11. I go through phases. Right now I’m into pop music….and I’ll blast that pretty hardcore. But I like everything..I’m into Katy Perry’s new song. I’m sure when her new cd comes out I will be obsessed with it.

  12. wait wait wait. it’s FREE ICED COFFEE DAY!? i live for this day. i just got an iced coffee and IT WASN’T FREE! oh man i am bummed right now.

i LOVE running to basshunter. it’s swedish house music with an awesome beat (fist pumping, anyone??) you should check it out! it makes you wanna work

  13. David Gray and Ray LaMontagne are my two favorite artists, no contest! I’ve seen Ray twice and have been dreaming of seeing David for years… and my dreams have been answered – have you seen that they are co-headlining a tour this summer? I snagged 10th row tickets on the first day they went up for sale and I am counting down the days until the concert!

Just thought you’d like to know, incase they come to your area too! I love it when I find others who share my taste in music 🙂 Have a great day!

  14. That step class looks fun!

I used to love pop in the 80s (Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, etc.), but now I don’t like it that much, just the classics. I’ve been into hip-hop since the 90s, and some harder rock, but not too much. 50 Cent and Eminem are my favs. 🙂

  15. hah i’ve heard so many people say that — like, oh, i’m not much for crazy pop music / but i LOVE lady gaga! she must have something that moves us, deep inside. lol. i like her songs too!! my absolute favorite 2010 musical discovery has been Owl City though. amazing .

    have a lovely day, tina!

  16. I’m with you about Lady Gaga–I love her music! In the same vein, I’m also really into that song “I’m only gonna break your heart” by Ludacris. Sometimes you just gotta love the pop! 🙂

  17. I’m an all around music lover. I can listen to just about anything and somehow appreciate it! Currently I’m very into pop/alternative/rock for my workouts. Swing for dancing. And jazz (J. Coltrane is my love!) for relaxing. 🙂

  18. I am all over the place with music…70s, 80s, 90s…pop(sometimes), rock, classical…I love it all. That being said I do like Lady Gaga…I think you are right…that kind of music just motivates you! I like music like that when I need some get up and go. Have a great day Tina!

  19. I love Lady Gaga too! I’m usually quite disparaging of “pop” music (Kesha – ew!) but Lady Gaga’s awesome. I love that she’s just so… weird. 😛

My favourite music right now is Deadmau5 and the Beatles. And Muse. I’m an old-school rock and trance kinda gal! Weird combo, I know. 🙂

Creme brulee coffee sounds soooo good! Oatmeal sounds divine, too. Yummy-sounding flavour! 😀

    Have a great day! 🙂

  20. I love Lady Gaga. I’m the same way you are about pop music. I really only like it when I’m working out. But Gaga is awesome. Her music is very unique and creative. I love how she doesn’t apologize for anything and is totally herself!

  21. Like you, I work out to music from Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Rihanna. I don’t usualy listen to them other than when I work out. My faves are Coldplay, U2 and Our Lady Peace (Canadian Band). I’m more into rock than pop…although I was a major Pop fan in the late 80’s and early 90’s. (New Kids on the Block, anyone?)

  22. That Lady GaGa is infectious! I like all her stuff. My most fave group of all time is Depeche Mode, but I love pretty much anything 80s. But my musical tastes are all over the map, because I also listen to Akon and the Black Eyed Peas. The iPod looks schizophrenic! 😉

  23. I also love pop music for working out only. It is so motivating! I typically listen to Ingrid Michaelson, Joshua Radin, Josh Ritter though.

  24. You know, I’ve signed up for about 5 of those free passes to Healthworks and no one has ever contacted me about it. And when I call to follow up, they always say that they’re getting around to it. It’s such a bummer too because I’ve really wanted to try it out.

  25. see, i definitely love pop music, especially for working out! lady gaga is a big one, and ke$ha, even though her songs are pretty trashy. i just can’t stop listening! my hubby makes fun of me for always listening to “volleyball warm-up music” 🙂
