Hello! Happy Friday!
I saw this fun fitness survey on Katie’s blog awhile back and thought it looked like a good one, especially for a Friday, so here goes!
1. Five fitness items I can’t live without:
- Reebok Nanos
- Lululemon TaTa Tamer < --- best sports bra ever!
- Flip Belt
- iPhone (to listen to Pandora and podcasts)
- BIC Bands
2. Favorite pre-workout snack/meal:
For me, it depends on the workout, but it almost always includes nut butter and banana, which keeps me satisfied and doesn’t upset my stomach. Some of my favorites:
- French Toast Breakfast Scramble
- Two-ingredient pancake with nut butter
- Nut butter + banana slices on an English muffin or toast
3. On my fitness bucket list:
I have all sorts of stuff on my Fitness Bucket List, but the ones I’m trying to tackle in the next 3-6 months or so are Fran Rx, surfing, and PR-ing at my next half marathon.
4. Must-have tech tools:
My iPhone + Timex GPS Watch. I can’t run without them!
5. Top exercise gear:
I think I already covered this one in the first question, but I’ll mention my Reebok Play Dry Jacket since I’ve been living in it lately. I wear it to CrossFit all the time as well as around the house and to run errands. I love it.
6. Motivational mantra:
I love, love, love motivational mantras! In fact, I have 140 of them pinned to my Fitness Inspiration board on Pinterest. Here are a few of my new favorites:

7. Next big exercise goal:
Fran Rx! I’m pretty sure it’ll kill me, but I will be so frickin’ happy when I finish. I still remember writing it on the goal board at our box about a year ago. I thought it was the most impossible goal ever, but now it’s within reach.

8. Favorite cardio exercise:
CrossFit and running! Obviously.
9. Favorite strength move:
There are so many I love. My favorites: Cleans, Jerks, Thrusters, Deadliftsโยฆ pretty much anything that makes me feel like a beast!

.

I just started crossfit last week so this would be an awesome way to track my workouts from the start! So far I’d say the baseline is my favorite since that’s what I’m working to beat in my first month
Lindsay
Hello from Central NJ! I joined Crossfit in October 2011 and never looked back. Now almost six months pregnant with my first I know WODing 3-4 times a week is a huge reason why things are going so smoothly. Can’t wait to get back to HSPUs and burpees next summer!

A bunch of you guys asked where you can buy the CrossFit WOD books. Unfortunately, the Reebok ones from CrossFit ONE aren’t available for purchase, but you can buy something very similar from Journal Menu.
Question of the Day
What’s your favorite piece of fitness gear right now?
P.S. Check out my latest recipe for Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dip! Oooh, yes, it’s as amazing as it sounds!

I use to eat bananas before a work out all the time too… until my Dad told me bananas are muscle relaxers… they have potassium and magnesium which is the perfect combo to eat after you workout!
Interesting! Makes sense since they say bananas help with cramping/side stitches. I always eat one before (and sometimes after) a race!
Great list! I’m reading this in my Play Dry jacket right now! ha ha! I’m wearing it out! For CrossFit, I LOVE the CrossFit Board shorts–a wide waist band, and flattering fit!
I LOVE those shorts too!
You guys keep advertising this jacket, which is great, but it’s only available in purple/blue and in XL. Can you ask Reebok when they’ll be offering more??
Will do!
Love this! I also can’t live without my Reebok Crossfit Nanos– BEST shoes EVER! They’re great for everything Crossfit related…and they make my Sasquatch feet look small ๐
Agreed! They’re perfect for CF!
I could eat bananas and nut butter for every single meal – so delicious!
Hi Ms. Tina,
I read your blog EVERYDAY! I love it/slightly am addicted to it! Your post yesterday about UC really was meant to be read and I apologize for others’ lack of knowledge and maturity about such issues. This is your blog and you have whatever right to post what you want!
Also, I was wondering, what Protein Powder do you use and where do you buy your Almond Butter?
Thank you so much!
-Morgan
Thanks, Morgan! I’m currently using (and loving!) the vanilla protein powder from fitmixer. (There’s a link for it on the right side of my blog.) I buy my almond butter from Trader Joe’s or Target.
Oh my, YUM! Totally making that dip for a night in with the husband, drinks and a fire!!!
Sounds like a fabulous night to me! Enjoy!
Thanks for the linky link! The survey is fun! We’ve been having fun with your 24dot over here! I’m excited to find out what we’re doing tonight – we have Xander pull the slip when John gets home from work!
Looking forward to running ZOOMA Annapolis “with” you! (Since you’re much faster -ha!)
Oh my goodness! You have no idea how HAPPY I am about this! I was just casually reading through your fun survey and was super surprised to see my name at the end of the post.
Made my Friday – thank you! ๐
My fave piece(s) of fitness gear right now are my new Under Armor kicks. I was hesitant to try them (I’m an Asics girl) but so far they feel amazing when I run.
OR
My Innov-8 trail shoes.
I’m a bit low tech but really need some gloves to use with my hand weights as I’m getting calluses!
I love my punching bag! Technically I just got my own yesterday but I’ve used one a bunch at the gym and I’ve been dying to get one for two years!
Anything Lululemon and my Nike App on my phone!
I have one sports bra I cannot live without! Seems so small but makes a huge difference!
LOVE the TaTa Tamer as well. Seriously the best. My favorite new-ish product would have to be my Brooks Launch running shoes. But I learned the day I bought them (after trying on a zillion pairs and finally settling on the Launch) that they are being discontinued. Tempted to hoard them but I feel like I can probably find something similar and the only colors left are super heinous. Good thing I don’t pick running shoes based on the colors like I did in high school ha! Also addicted to my Garmin Heart Rate monitor for cardio workouts these days. Kinda freak out if I forget it ๐
Love the quotes!
I can’t seem to stop buying nike tempo shorts in all its’ colours!
I found a sports bra (from victoria’s secret actually) that I absolutely loved–even perfect for running–so I bought a total of 4 of them! Very unlike me, but they’re making a world of a difference for working out and I love them!
I’d be lost without my Timex GPS Watch. I don’t know how I ran before it. It’s so nice to know exactly how far I’ve ran.
Totally agree! ๐
I love my Gap shorts right now–they have a nice athletic line, actually! So does ON. I’ve been impressed.
I love quotes too!!
A banana and orange juice are my pre-spin class snack! What is Fran Rx?
Favorite gear would have to be my ipod shuffle.
Also, can you do a review on the blog of the Flip Belt? I’ve heard so many things about them but feel like they would move around when running, not hold things tightly, etc.
Here you go! http://carrotsncake.com/2012/11/flip-belt-review-giveaway.html
@Danielle: I got a Flip Belt after reading Tina’s review on CNC, it’s awesome! So much better than any bag or arm band. I lift and run with it, doesn’t budge. I’ve loaded it up with my car key (VW fob, not small as keys go), ID and iPhone (in a case) and it worked great while I ran. Like you, I was worried it wouldn’t stay in place but it does. I got a small (I’m a size 4) and it stays in place, I think you just need to know the right spot on your hips/waist to place it for you. A worth while purchase!
@Tina I’m still learning about CrossFit, what is a Fran Rx?
@Rachelyn Teague: So glad you like the Flip Belt!! ๐
Fran is 21, 15, 9 (reps) of Thrusters (at 65 pounds for women) and pull-ups. It’s insanely hard.
I love the LuluLemon tanks and long-sleeved dri-feet shirts! I am so spoiled by them now that I can hardly run in anything else. Knowing that I’ll be comfortable when I run, even in the cold, really motivates me to get out there.
I am loving the Nike+ app on my iphone to track my runs! Love that it shows pace, distance, calories and you can see how your mileage stacks up against previous weeks.
My favorite piece of workout gear right now are my Brooks Ravenna 3s. I’ve only been able to wear a standard Army PT uniform to work out the past 8 months, since I’ve been deployed, but I’m looking forward to investing in good winter gear when I get home!
My Lululemon “Define Jacket”! I wear it everywhere. Perfect for not so cold runs and also stylish and comfy enough while training clients. It also helps that it is bright pink too. ๐ Have a fabulous weekend!
I love my Lululemon run: speed shorts. They’re so comfy and loose!
Love your blog!! I really love the quote about Barbie and Ken. Gotta figure out how to repost that! Thanks! Laura
I am loving my new Brooks Ravenna running shoes!
Crossfit isn’t in my budget right now, but you totally are inspiring me to do it!
It’s worth every cent! ๐
hmmm thats a toughie.
Ipod nano. It’s an essential
I love my Nike running tights. It is still warm enough to be in capris and they are the most comfortable pants out there!
Mine is my long sleeved double layer top with thumb holes from nike. Keeps me so warm when running outside in winter. On my wish list is the fleece lined Sweaty Betty running tights!
I am loving my Garmin watch! So great to track progress and stats!
I love my lululemon wunder unders. I seriously couldn’t live without them – yoga, running, CrossFit – they work for everything ๐
Fave piece of fitness gear has been the same for months now: my Zensah compression sleeves. I am convinced they’re a big reason I was able to successfully train for & complete my first half marathon without pain, and I love them for that!
I’m still learning about CrossFit, what is Fran Rx?
@Rachelyn Teague: Fran is 21, 15, 9 (reps) of Thrusters (at 65 pounds for women) and pull-ups. It’s insanely hard.
@Tina: I’m totally going to try to do a Fran this week! Bam!
