Fun at Mohegan Sun: Hotel & Happy Hour

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Which do you want first: the good news or the bad news? Let’s keep it positive and go with the good news first. The good news is that Mal and I had a blast at Mohegan Sun. The bad news is that I am sooooo hungover today! I guess I had a little too much fun last night.

The folks at Mohegan Sun invited Mal and me to spend a night at the hotel and enjoy dinner at BALLO, so Mal and I drove down to the casino yesterday afternoon. As soon as we arrived, we checked into our hotel room for the evening.

The room included a really comfortable king bed. Typically, hotel beds are all the same to me (unless they’re really uncomfortable), but this one was especially comfy. The mattress was the perfect combination of soft + firm and the bedding (the sheets, in particular) were incredibly soft. Thanks to the booze, I slept great last night!

There was also a nice big TV, a desk, and a seating area.

The bathroom was fancy and modern and offered some fun toiletries. (I’m such a sucker for hotel toiletries!)

Once Mal and I got settled, we headed down to the casino for Happy Hour. First stop: SolToro! The last time Mal and I visited Mohegan, we went to SolToro and liked it a lot, so we went back again.

SolToro is a “tequila grill” that offers an impressive tequila list of 80+ varieties. Neither of us are big tequila drinkers, so I’m not sure what attracted Mal and me to SolToro in the first place, but we love the atmosphere of the bar. It’s open, airy, and not too crowded, so it has a chill, laid-back vibe to it. The bartenders are also really friendly and always willing to make a recommendation, which was especially helpful for people like us, who don’t know much about tequila.

I ordered a spicy Tequila Bloody Mary (aka Bloody Maria), which tasted delicious and made me sweat because of its spiciness”” just the way I like ”˜em!

IMG_0013 (600x800)

I also shared some chips and salsa with Mal. A huge bucket of chips + salsa was just $2! What a deal!

IMG_0012 (800x600)

Mal and I spent about an hour at SolToro before heading out to explore the casino. We did a little gambling (Black Jack) and lots of window shopping.

We also checked out the massive 24-foot life-size gingerbread house on display.

IMG_0019 (800x600)

Rumor has it that it includes more than 6,500 gingerbread bricks made by the pastry team at Mohegan. Isn’t that nuts?!

Inside the gingerbread house was a bunch of tiny rooms, which were decorated for the holidays. It was really cute.

We had about 2 hours to kill before our dinner reservation, so Mal and I headed up to our room, changed into nicer clothes, and then stopped by Bar Americain for a cocktail.

The bar at Bar Americain is absolutely gorgeous and, from what I remembered from my first experience there, the cocktails were really great”” they were this time, too!

IMG_0035 (800x600)

I ordered a dirty vodka martini with olives. I loved it.

Part II coming next!

  1. It’d be nice if Mohegan offered your readers something. Otherwise, honestly – just jealous that you got to go for free.

  2. That gingerbread house looks SO fun — okay, the whole trip looks fun — but did it SMELL great? I would want to just stand inside it and sniff…. ummmmm! 🙂 So glad you had a great time!

  3. What a great post!

“It’s open, airy, and not too crowded, so it has a chill, laid-back vibe to it. The bartenders are also really friendly and always willing to make a recommendation..”
Love bars like that and Ive also been to tequilla bars and if you dont know what you’re ordering, they all tend to be…well, very strong tasting to me 🙂 I don’t have alot of room for “sampling” when it comes to tequilla. It’s not exactly pinot grigio 🙂

  4. Oh my gosh!!! I was JUST there on Wednesday night, for my work team’s holiday event!! SUCH a small world 🙂 I love how you have the same level of appreciation for that oversize gingerbread house that I did.

I hope you had a good time!

  5. Oh, that looks like such a fun evening!! I can’t wait to have my husband home and go out to do fun things like that. 🙂 I like Mohegan Sun; he’s more of a Foxwoods guy.

  6. Looks like you had fun… i love people watching at casino’s (i’m not a big gambler!) Those chips and salsa would be one reason to go! Last time I was at Mohegan was a long time ago, perhaps it’s time to revisit and check out the gingerbread house! super cute!

  7. I’ve been to Mohegan Sun about three times! Each time we had a blast 🙂 One time the only blackjack tables that were open had a $25 minimum. We had already had a little bit to drink so we decided to sit down. I ended up winning $200 and my roommate ended up winning $600! The next morning I COULD NOT believe I bet that much per hand! When I was in Vegas I didn’t like betting $5 a hand, much less $25! Since then, I’ve LOVED Mohegan Sun 😉
