Fuel 53 + What I Ate In A Day

Yesterday morning started bright and early at 5:15 AM. Recently, I’ve been waking up with Mal to get a jumpstart on work and walk Murphy before he leaves for school. It’s one less thing for Mal to worry about in the morning, and it’s a nice part of my morning routine. That little pug face is always SO HAPPY for a walk followed by breakfast.

Speaking of breakfast… mine was a delicious overnights oats combo made with So Delicious blueberry dairy-free yogurt, oats, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, unsweetened vanilla Ripple milk (found it at Target), and a big scoop of Teddie Peanut Butter to finish it off. Mmm! It was so tasty and so filling! And, of course, I enjoyed my usual iced coffee mixture (decaf hazelnut + pumpkin spice) with vanilla bean collagen and unsweetened vanilla Ripple milk in my favorite tumbler – perfection!

Quinn is home with me on Mondays (and Fridays), so we always make sure to plan some sort of adventures into our day. He’s not the type of kid who likes to just chill at home (either is his Mumma), so we make it a point to get out and about at some point in the day. A coupon arrived in the mail over the weekend for a bonus arcade card + $1 iced coffee at Starland, a local sportsplex, so Quinn and I knew exactly what we wanted to do on Monday! 🙂

The workout at CrossFit was short and sweet – yet effective. Instead of doing barbell deadlifts, I did single-leg deadlifts with #35 dumbbells, which was quite the booty workout. I got 6 rounds + 8 reps.

After CrossFit, we headed right to the arcade! 🙂

Quinn cashed in his tickets for some “gem slime.” He was really excited about it!

I cashed in my coupon for a $1 decaf iced coffee at Fuel 53, which is right upstairs at Starland. I just discovered Fuel 53 recently, but it’s already become one of my go-to places for iced coffee. I mean, it’s amazing that they even serve DECAF iced coffee. It also seems like a great place to work – they have free wifi and lots of outlets, so it might just become one of the places I work when I’m looking for a change of scenery.

Back at home, it was just about time for lunch. I threw together a random fridge bowl with mixed greens, steamed carrots, Cowboy Caviar (from Trader Joe’s), and a piece of baked cod.

After lunch, I enjoyed a couple of 3-Ingredient Pumpkin Spice Protein Balls – recipe coming to CNC soon!

Then, it was nap time… or so I thought. Quinn just wasn’t tired and kept coming out of his bedroom. He actually suggested napping with Murphy in our bed, so I figured we might as well give it a try. It wasn’t likely the two of them would nap together, but, hey, you never know, right? Plus, our usual nap time routine was not working.

Quinn and Murphy giggled in bed for about 20 minutes – just long enough for me to shower and get dressed. After that, I decided to call it quits. Nap time was just not happening. Oh, well. Instead, Quinn got dressed up as Catboy, and we took Murphy for a walk! 🙂

Dinner was a semi-strange, but tasty combination: Garlic hummus + nutritional yeast mixed with butternut noodles.

I finished off the night with Harvest Blend Tea – one of my favorites EVER!

And a cider donut from Hornstra Farms. Delicious!

Question of the Day

When did your little one stop napping? 

We’re at the point where napping is totally a 50/50 chance, but I have a feeling it’s not going to happen much longer!

  1. Nap time was hit and miss after my dd turned 3 yrs old. I told her she still needed to have a rest time, so she would go into her room and look at books or play with her stuff animals for 30-45 mins every day. Some times she would stay awake, some times she fall asleep. I didn’t care if she slept or not, just needed some quiet time so I could get some stuff done around the house.LOL.

  2. My son is the same age as yours (within days, I think…June 5) and he stopped napping in early spring. But since then he just does quiet/rest time in his room for about 90 minutes to 2 hours. He plays with quiet toys, reads books, looks out the window, colors, makes up imaginary scenarios, etc. He just has to be quiet so Mama gets some downtime and his 22 month old brother can take a nap. He just started preschool in the afternoons during naptime, but on the weekends, he still does rest time in his room.

  3. My oldest napped off and on until he was almost 5! My #2 child (girl) stopped napping shortly after she turned 3. My #3 (boy) stopped napping right before age 3, that was kinda brutal and he still falls asleep at times in the car or on the couch, but I guess he hates to miss out on the fun by taking an official nap :). My youngest (16 months) is still napping, obviously. I try to keep it going as long as possible but every kid/family is so different!

  4. My oldest stopped napping around 3 years + 2 months. My middle son is a few months younger than Quinn (October 2012) and dropped naps cold turkey in mid-August. I’m hoping the baby will nap for many, many more years!
    We’ve instituted Quiet Play Time AKA QPT for the kids that no longer nap. They may pick a few quiet toys from the rest of the house but have to spent an hour or so in their rooms, away from adults and entertaining themselves. Its good for their imaginations and good for Mom and boys to have some restful apart time. I work from home too so QPT ends up being one of my most productive times of the day.

  5. Mine (turned 4 in July) naps at school each day for about 45 minutes, and never on weekends at home-we are so happy it’s over, since we can stay out all day, etc!
    MAJOR bonus: bedtime is SO EARLY on no nap days! 🙂

  6. Ours was a forced end of naps at age 4 – when they go into the 4 year old room at daycare they don’t nap anymore. He would still nap at home though sometimes.

    What brand of decaf hazelnut coffee do you use?

  7. I can’t remember exactly when naps ended anymore! Somewhere between 3 and 4, I think! 🙁

    When you walk Murphy early is it still dark? Do you wear reflective stuff or carry a light? I’m trying to figure out when to fit dog walks into my day and so I’m looking for ideas!

    1. Ya, it’s super dark outside, and I get totally creeped out. I just turn the flashlight on my phone on and stay near the street lights near my house. This time of year is the worst for early-morning dog walking!

  8. Can you decipher that Crossfit graphic for those of use that don’t go? As many reps as possible…in 8 minutes? That was the entire workout? Or do you do other things before and after? Thanks!

  9. My 5yo stopped napping at home around 2
    At daycare, he had to be moved because he’d keep the other kiddos up with his singing. From 2.9-5 he laid quietly at his preschool rest time, but the most he’ll chill at home is a movie or legos. He has endless energy.

    We need to find an arcade around here! My son is always suggesting we go to an arcade. It’s a fun age
