From Snow to Starbucks

Many thanks for all of your wonderful comments about my Lose the Dough game plan. Hopefully, it gives you some ideas for your own Lose the Dough challenge! 😀 I’m really excited for its “official” start tomorrow– 5 months exactly to my 30th birthday. Five month is a long time! I hope you guys are on board for the long-haul.

In keeping with my Lose the Dough challenge, I got my butt to Healthworks despite the especially nasty weather this morning.

Luckily, my wonderful and amazing husband offered to drive me to Healthworks. What a nice guy!

(I think he really just wanted to see how his new car handles in the snow! 😉 )

Brrrrrrrrr! 😐

Snack

Before starting my workout, I snacked on a Cherry Cashew-flavored Pure Bar. I don’t normally eat before a mid-day workout, but there was no way I could make it through a 90-minute workout on an empty stomach!

Workout

I started with 30 minutes on the elliptical while “keeping up” with the Kardashians. I put the resistance up to 10 on the elliptical and kept my speed between 7.0 – 7.5. I was fairly winded and sweaty by the end of 30 minutes. It felt like a decent cardio session to me.

Then, I took a Body Pump class! 😀

Today’s class was quite a bit easier than last week’s class. Maybe I just knew what to expect from Body Pump 72, but I was mostly back to my old weight on all of the tracks and it felt great! The lunge track, however, was KILLER! My buns and thighs were screaming by the end! 😯 I even had to stop and rest at one point! But, I do love that burn! 😉

After Body Pump, I hit the showers.

The Healthworks locker room was fairly quiet this afternoon, so I snapped a bunch of photos. Having a camera (or even camera phone) in the locker room at Healthworks is highly “illegal,” but I made sure not to include any members in the photos. Hopefully, I don’t get in trouble!

Anyway, I love the Healthworks locker room and just wanted to share a little photo tour on the blog. It’s so spa-like! 😀

Lunch

After showering and “prettying” myself, I headed to Starbucks to eat lunch and do some writing. I packed a PB & J on Sandwich Thins and a banana for lunch.

I also drank a lot of water to rehydrate after my workout.

A little while later, I ordered a decaf, non-fat, sugar-free vanilla latte. Mmm!

IMG_3384.JPG

I was totally feeling the writing + Starbucks thing this afternoon, so I ordered another half cup of decaf coffee.

I was PSYCHED to see that Starbucks had SOY MILK available on the condiment bar. Finally!

OpenSky Helps Haiti

OpenSky has decided to extend their “Helping Haiti” initiative for a few more days. During this initiative, they’ll continue to donate 100% of the profits generated from OpenSky sales to Haiti relief funds. There’s never been a better time to shop at OpenSky!

Mal and I are making chili for dinner and then we’re showing our apartment to 3 more people. Hopefully, someone bites!

Later, gators!

  1. The locker room looks very similar to Equinox (where I go) but you have a jacuzzi! I SO wish we had a jacuzzi.

Did you know that if you order a “tall” drink at Starbucks and use a re-usable cup, they fill it up AND take off $0.10? Even though it’s 4 more ounces? I’m frugal so it makes me happy 🙂

  2. Looks like you had a great day – my kind of day in fact!

I’m hitting up my first body pump class tomorrow so it was fun to see a photo of your set up.

Your gym looks amazing – makes such a difference to have a luxurious place to go to. My gym is quite similar and although it’s kinda pricey I think it’s worth it.

  3. I would love to go to a gym that had locker rooms like that – I would join for that!

Wish there was a Heathworks close to me!

Sounds like you had a great workout and productive afternoon.

  4. That’s one beautiful gym. I’ve always gone to YMCAs or JEAs that were much more, er, basic. If I had a gym like yours I would want to use it more!

I also really appreciate that you didn’t use any disposables for your lunch. No throw away cups, napkins or straws. I wish more people would lead by example.

  5. Good luck on showing your apartment and enjoying some chili. Maybe you should put out some of those cookies you make to help attract the possible tentant! ha ha Also it was crazy to see the snow there. It was in the 50s today in DC metro area and I enjoyed it because of the fact I could run outside

  6. I wish they would open a Healthworks around here, that place looks amazing! Loving your ‘Lose the Dough’ challenge as well, sounds like a solid plan to me.

  7. Cute car! Beautiful gym! And soymilk on the condiments table at Starbucks is good news! I’ll have to check my local stores, I would love to be able to put my own “soy topper” on for a change…

  8. Oooh I took my first Body Pump class this morning and it was sooo good! I’ll be going back again for it, i’m sure. And I did 30 mins on the elliptical afterwards too. Sounds like we had a very similar workout today haha. 🙂 That is an amazing locker room! I posted some pics of my locker room, but it is nowhere near as spa-like as yours. Lucky!

  9. Your gym looks so nice. My daughter had a birthday sleepover last night so I had a house full of girls and missed Body Pump this morning, which is always a bummer. The lunge track in 72 is pretty hard; I think the squat track is hard, too…the song just goes on and on and on. Chili for dinner is perfect on a cold winter night.

  10. Healthworks like a very nice facility! I love fitness centers that have that feel or a country-club type feel. I like to sit and yap after a good workout, lol!

  11. Sneaky, sneaky. I’ve been wanting to take pictures in HealthWorks but I’ve been too scared to break the no-camera policy. Love your shots of the Back Bay location. 🙂

  12. Oh I am so wanting that locker room at my gym! My gym has nothing. Blah! I used to go to one that had the works and I so miss. I could use a good steam and a dip in the jacuzzi. Sigh!

But I will pass on the snow. Yay to living in Florida this time of year. 🙂

  13. You’ve totally inspired me to hit up 5:30am Body Pump class tomorrow. I used to go all the time, but have completely been slacking. It’s back on tomorrow!!

  14. Yay Healthworks! I go to the Brookline club, and tomorrow morning 9am I am taking my first Strong Woman class. I’m excited!! I want to try Body Pump, but I’m easing my way in cuz I super out of shape! Also… I joined WW tonight, and I am totally in the Lose the Dough challenge with you! I turn 30 in September, and hope to be at goal weight by then. (28 pounds to lose!!)

  15. I really want to follow along with the lose the dough challenge but there isn’t a bodypump class at my gym (or anywhere in the city). Can you describe what the class is like? Weights and cardio intervals or just weights? Thanks!

  16. Wow your gym looks beautiful! My school gym is nice, but could definitely use a spa! And don’t you feel so “cool” when you work in Starbucks? My problem is I people watch instead of work 😉 Glad Day 0 of Lose the Dough is going well!

  17. awesome work out. BTW I love how you listed PRECISE goals. I need to really start writing mine down and holding myself accountable. It’s “too easy” to say “i need to be better” and fail at that!

  18. i love the fact that your workout machines at healthworks have tv’s right there in frnot of you. thats something i wish i had at my gym!
