Hi and happy Friday!
We’re off to Maine this weekend to see our friends Dave and Marie and their three girls. Remember them? Long-time readers will likely remember how much time we used to spend with Dave and Marie. Even since they moved (and we all had kids), it’s become tougher and tougher to get together, but we do our best and typically see them at least a couple of times per year. We’re definitely looking forward to the weekend! 🙂
This week’s edition of The Friday 5 includes a little something from all of my favorite things: safer beauty, wellness, running, and IBD (well, that’s not my favorite thing, but it’s obviously an important topic to me).
Enjoy your weekend! 🙂
1. CBD from Brandless
I’ve used CBD for awhile now, but I was recently looking for a more affordable option since I’ve been giving it to Murphy (for his back) in addition to taking it myself. This CBD from Brandless is priced right, and it seems to help, which, of course, is the most important part! Murphy’s back is doing better and my anxiety has been much more manageable.

2. Teen Titans Go TV Series
Quinn loves this cartoon show, and it’s actually really funny for adults, too. The comedy is very witty! And I always appreciate when a game or show is educational as well! 🙂 Teen Titans Go made avocado seem really cool, so Quinn ended up trying it shortly after watching the episode. Now it’s a staple at dinnertime!
3. IBD Parenthood Project
I’m so excited to partner again with the IBD Parenthood Project. (You can read my past blog posts here.) The IBD Parenthood Project aims to address misperceptions and fears women with IBD and their providers experience throughout all phases of family planning (conception, pregnancy, and after delivery). Patients can find answers to common questions like:
– Can I get pregnant with IBD?
– Does IBD affect my fertility?
– Will I pass IBD on to my baby?
– Can I stay on medicine during pregnancy?
– What if I flare during pregnancy?
– Is it possible to have a vaginal delivery?
– Can I breastfeed while on medicine?
– Does my medicine change how I vaccinate my baby?
This initiative was a group effort – created by gastroenterologists, maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) sub-specialists and patients, and is led by the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) with support from the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, and patient support network, Girls With Guts. The program is funded through support from UCB, a global biopharmaceutical company.
As part of this program, there’s a super helpful downloadable patient toolkit that features all sorts of helpful resources, including a list of key questions to ask your doctor as you’re thinking of becoming pregnant, a flow diagram outlining the various doctors typically involved in care, a guide to postnatal care, and GI and related specialist locators, among other tools. These tools are actually a direct response to survey findings that reported women with IBD want more and better information about managing their disease.
Also, I’m hosting an Instagram Live with the AGA in support of their IBD Parenthood project on Wednesday, October 16 at 2:00 PM EST. If you’re struggling with IBD (or know someone who is) and have questions about topics related to family planning, I hope you decide to tune in!
4. Run Happy Sneakers
I’m totally in love with these Run Happy Sneakers from Brooks. I mean, have you seen a more cheerful sneaker? They seriously get me pumped up for my workouts. I’ve been wearing them for all of my OTF workouts and they’ve been super comfortable for the treadmill, rower, and weight floor.
5. Beautycounter Pout Perfecter Lip Care Set
Beautycounter’s 2019 Holiday Line launched this past Monday, and OMG, it’s uh-mazing! So many beautiful sets – 19 in fact – to gift (or gift to yourself!). I am obsessed with many of the new sets already (there are several new products and many new shades and scents), but I’m particularly in love with this lip care set that includes a lip conditioner in a tube (finally!), sugar scrub, and clear gloss. Definitely grabbing a few of these as I’m guessing it will sell out.

P.S. I’ve been getting so many questions about what to eat on an anti-candida diet, so I created this meal plan + prep guide (includes recipes and grocery list) to give you some ideas. I hope it helps!
