Decorating Commitment-Phobes

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

I’m not sure if you noticed the walls in our bedroom from this morning’s post, but there’s nothing on them. For some reason, Mal and I just can’t commit to hanging things on our walls.

Of course, we want to decorate, but I guess we’re just afraid of making a bad decision””you know, hanging up something that doesn’t look good or we later decide we don’t like and then being stuck with a nail or hole in the wall ”¦ and then needing to patch it and repaint”¦ or spending more money to find something new to hang”¦ I guess we’re commitment-phobes. Does anyone else have this problem?

Mal and I have lived in our house for almost two years now, so we’re really trying to commit and get stuff up on our walls, so, yesterday afternoon, I went to get a couple of pillow fight-themed prints framed for our bedroom. We’re planning to hang them on either side of our bed. Mal already “called” the Troy print for his side. Ha! I’m happy with Abed on my side. We’re weird and that’s okay.

I also got an old lithograph of George Washington framed. One of Mal’s relatives gave it to us as a wedding gift (more than 4 years ago), so we finally decided to get it framed. I think we might hang it in our dining room… if we can commit, of course.

After some frame fun, I went to Old Navy to return a shirt that I recently purchased. Mal made fun of it and said it was a “grandma shirt” on me, so I second-guessed my fashion choice. I thought it was stylish, but, hey, we all know I can’t dress myself.

I ended up exchanging the above shirt for this one instead:

Cute? I like it.

I’m not much of a clothing shopper (I work from home and workout, so I don’t need “dressy” clothes), but I splurged since I’m going to Baltimore tomorrow for Fitbloggin and wanted to look nice.

My friends from fitmixer are sponsoring me for Fitbloggin (woohoo!), so if you’re attending, keep a look out for Lindsay and me at the fixmixer booth on both Friday and Saturday morning. We’ll be sampling the aminos and we’d love to meet you!

I seriously cannot wait for Fitbloggin. I had so much fun last year, I can’t wait to do it all again this year!

Before I left to run my errands, I ate lunch, which was scrambled egg whites mixed with mushrooms and tomatoes.

And, on the side, half of an avocado + a peach.

After running errands, I arrived home pretty hungry, but dinner wasn’t for another couple of hours, so I whipped up a Pumpkin Spice Smoothie to hold me over, and, holy crap, it was delicious! This recipe is a keeper!

In the mix:

Back soon with dinner and some pug antics!

  1. I totally understand the decorating commitment phobe. I’m weird in that I don’t want my decor to look like anyone else’s, and I’m very eclectic. No one agrees with my decorating choices (I had a roommate who got into an UGLY fight over it). I chose to have blank walls instead, as protest.

  2. Hi Tina! So I’m a college reader, and we aren’t allowed to hang things or damage the walls in our dorms in anyway–the building manager would probably have a heart attack. So instead, I use Command hooks (you know the sticky ones?). They’re pretty solid, and feel sturdy (I like to hang up my super heavy hair dryer so I don’t trip over the cord), and at the end of the semester, you just pull on the little tab and they pop off the wall! Good for the decoration commitment-phobe 🙂

  3. When I saw the picture of the first top you bought I thought “that is the cutest top … I need to go to Old Navy to see if I can find it” and then I read that you returned it because Mal didn’t like it! lol

My boyfriend will occasionally make fun of certain things I buy. I don’t go out to return them … but then when I wear it I can’t help but think that he doesn’t like my outfit.

  4. I’ll be at Fitbloggin!! I’ll definitely stop by your booth. I’m hoping the CrossFit workout is a good one – I was bummed to not have time to stop by a box in Baltimore but excited to see a WOD on the agenda!

  5. Love those prints…how fun for the bedroom! I must be a grandma. ;)I have that very same top you returned. I actually got it when Old Navy was having a huge back to school sale for only 5.00….I couldn’t pass it up. That smoothie looks delicious. Looks like a must try for Fall!

  6. I love the first shirt and have lots of shirts that style…guess I’m a grandma! Sorry, Mal! I tend to avoid taking fashion advice from my husband though. Lucky for me he can dress himself well, but I let him stick with that.

It took me a loooooong time to get pictures up at my house too. When you’re not renting anymore, it seems so final. But once I started, I felt more confident with my choices and you can always move things around.

  7. that smoothie sounds so good, i’ve been on a real frozen banana, chocolate protein powder, almond butter and almond milk kick lately but I may have to give yours a go soon.
I might be the opposite of you guys, I think I might over do it with hanging pictures and prints on my walls… I always get excited when I see something and put it up right away, in my office you can barely see the colour of the wall!

  8. We have lived in our house for 6 years and just hung pics in our study so you are not alone. On a side note I was just at Target and saw a cute pug picture. Tan background with a black pug outline in the middle in a black frame. It was really cute and I thought of the blog!

  9. Welcome back to Baltimore! I hope you find better restaurants this trip. I live a few blocks south from the where the convention is being held, and I promise there are lots of great restaurants in the area to try 🙂

  10. I think that there’s nothing wrong with bare walls — my Mom cares to differ, thinking this borders on blasphemy (of which religious figure, I’m not sure! 🙂
The smoothie sounds almost like it would be thick enough to be a pumpkin pie smoothie — especially if someone were to use a birthday cake flavoured protein powder!

  11. Definitely a commitment-phone when it comes to both things you mentioned; decorating and shopping. Decorating for the same reasons of holes/paint etc., and I am just downright horrible at shopping. Most stores overwhelm me, I never where to start, what to look for, and have a hard time buying something unless I absolutely can’t live without it. I guess that why my closet is mostly full of jeans and plain v-neck T’s. Oh well, better for my bank account I guess.

  12. We have lived in our house for 5.5 years and just a few weeks ago, we finally found & put up prints in our bedroom.

Yes, I, too, have committment issues – committing to a print, a location & then worrying about taking it down/holes, etc. You are not alone!

  13. I am absolutely of the same mind when it comes to hanging things on walls. Also of the mind mind when it comes to fashion choices. So weird that I was just talking to someone about these exact topics and here it is on your blog also. Great minds…

  14. I’m kinda freaking out. I’m going to the Fitbloggin’ Conference and I don’t know any of my roomies. :/ I look forward to meeting you though. I know it will be fun, I went to Blissdom ’10 and it was a blast. Bring Murphy K? My boys would love me forever if I got a pic with him. They love Pugs and I always show them his pics. 🙂

  15. can’t wait to try this pumpkin smoothie! thank you for sharing. my freezer is full of frozen bananas at all times, thanks to my addiction to your banana bread smoothie. 🙂

  16. Did you just eat the avocado plain with a spoon? And I think the shirt is very cute! But the new one is also adorable. Really, you couldn’t have gone wrong either way.

  17. I love that trunk at the end of your bed! Is it an antique? I have been looking for something similar for my own house.

  18. I’m worried about the sodium amount in the egg white protein powder. I don’t workout or sweat like you do…should I be worried?

  19. The command strips from 3m work great and don’t mark up your wall at all! Follow the package instructions for what size to use but I’d say add another strip or two for the larger pics. Make sure you push them on the wall well! They stay though – I have a bunch of large frames (with glass!) that have held with the commend strips going on 2 yrs+ now.

  20. I’m not the most fashionable person either but I do need to do some shopping. After having lived in SoCal for the last 3 years and just returning to the midwest, I realized I have nearly zero fall and winter clothes. I have some jackets and a few sweaters but in terms of long sleeved shirts, the 3 I have are MIA! 🙁
