Hi, friends! Happy Friday!

I have all sorts of running stuff to share with you this morning. Are you ready?

First things first: I’m running the Falmouth Road Race (aka “my favorite road race ever”) this coming Sunday! Woohoo! A huge THANK YOU to ESPN Boston for hooking me up with a bib!

The Falmouth Road Race doesn’t have race day bib pick-up, so my friend Jess and I drove down to Falmouth after CrossFit last night to get our stuff. She offered to drive, so I offered to bring snacks!

It took us about an hour to get to Falmouth High School (where the number pick up and expo are being held), which was actually record timing for a drive to the Cape in the summer. Cape traffic = the worst. Driving down Thursday night was definitely a great decision!

We arrived around 8:00 PM, about an hour before closing, so the expo was pretty quiet, and Jess and I were in and out in no time at all.

I love the bibs for Falmouth. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a pretty one!

Remember when I told you guys I was training for a half marathon this fall? Well, that’s only part of the truth. I’m actually training for the Hat Trick at the Runner’s World Half & Festival.

Hat Trick? I’ll be running a 5K, 10K, and half marathon all in one weekend. I’ve never run that many races in such a short period of time, so I’m excited for the challenge!

I’m also excited about the fabulous group of bloggers who are attending the Runner’s World Half & Festival with me. Runner’s World is sponsoring a group of us for the weekend. Check out who’s coming!

Awesome group, right? I am psyched to spend time with this group of bloggers. I’ve been following many of them online for years now, so I’m really excited to meet them in person””and, obviously, RUN with them! I can’t wait!

If you’re looking for a race to run this fall, the Runner’s World Half & Festival is hosting a 5K and 10K on Saturday, October 19th as well as a half marathon on Sunday, October 20th in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Or you can run all three races for the Hat Trick! In addition to the races, the weekend is full of speakers (the keynote is Dave McGillivray, director of the Boston Marathon and Falmouth Road Race), seminars (by Bart Yasso and Mark Remy just to name a few), kids races, live music, and lots of other great stuff. Runner’s World is also offering beginner, intermediate, and advanced training plans for all of these races, including a special one for the Hat Trick. Cool!

Think you want to sign up? Here’s the link to the registration page: http://rw.runnersworld.com/rwhalf/register.html. And you can get 10% off the cost of registration for the half marathon and Hat Trick with the special codes below:

Health News & Views

I recently started training for a half marathon, and, as I increased my weekly mileage, I found that it was more and more important to properly fuel my runs. The day after a training run, I started to notice that my muscles didn’t recover as quickly and my performance was more sluggish than in the past, so I began to focus more on good nutrition, especially after my workouts.

I found that drinking a smoothie post-run has been essential to my recovery time. All of the nutritious ingredients that I include in them help fight inflammation and promote quick repair and healing inside my body, which is important for overcoming soreness and getting me out the door for my next workout.

This smoothie recipe is one of my favorites for post-workout recovery. It includes a number of nutritional powerhouses that also have recovery benefits. Bananas, for instance, provide a healthy dose of potassium, which is essential for replenishing electrolytes which are lost through sweat. And, the best part about this smoothie, besides doing amazing things for your body, is that it tastes great too!
