Yesterday started bright and early once again with a run in Central Park with Monica. We ran 3 miles together, but then I called it quits. I just didn’t have a ton of energy and felt blah, so I headed back to the hotel while Monica continued on for a few more miles.
Breakfast
On my walk back to the hotel, I stopped by Starbucks where I bought an egg white and spinach wrap, banana, and green juice for breakfast. (The green juice was really goodāāa lot better than I expected from a bottled juice!)
A little while later, Monica and I headed to The Mercedes Club for the Fitness Blogger Tweet & Meet, a day-long, health-focused event for bloggers hosted by FITNESS magazine. I actually attended and spoke on a panel at the same event last year in New York City, so I was excited to be invited again for this year’s event.
Monica and I arrived a little after 9:00 AM to check in. (We stopped to grab a couple of iced coffees right before heading into the event.)
We received our name tags and then stopped by to say āhiāĀ to the folks at Reebok, who were one of the event’s sponsors.
Sweet tank top! I actually wore the same one in coral yesterday. It’s one of my favorites!
#LiveWithFire [instead red head joke here]
Then, we headed outside to join the rest of the attendees for the start of the event.Ā Monica and I both needed to catch our respective train/plane home, so we only stayed at the event long enough to catch a couple of the seminars.
It kicked off with a welcome from Betty Wong, the Editor in Chief of FITNESS magazine. I read her Editor’s Note every month in FITNESS, so I was excited to see her in person at the event.
I really enjoyed the first session of the day with celebrity makeup artist Sarah Lucero, Executive Director of Global Artistry at Stila Cosmetics and also a breast cancer survivor. Her talk was called āInside Beauty Secrets to Get You Glowing,āĀ which all about how to look pulled together in flash with this season’s hottest beauty trends and makeup tips. Sarah gave some great beauty tips (i.e. match the weight of your makeup with the weight of your clothing (summer vs. winter), wear tintedĀ moisturizer, and buy a great mascara), but I also liked how she focused on a more holistic approach to health. For instance, she said you can’t have good health without a healthy soul and spirit (so true), and gave the example of her love for Soul Cycle. She said even when she was battling cancer, she really looked forward to those classes because of the music, atmosphere, and how it made her feel both inside and out. During class, she paid attention to how she was feeling and went at her own pace, which helped her appreciate her body. She said: āThank your body for what it can do, and it will thank you back,āĀ which really resonated with me. Since I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis almost two years ago, I’ve spent a lot of time being pissed off at my body, but hearing these words helped me switch my thinking. I definitely need to be more positive when thinking about my health.
While I listened to the speakers, I sipped on some green juice.
A short while later, Monica and I needed to boogie back to the hotel to grab our things and travel home. On the walk, we saw where The Colbert Report is filmed. Love that show!
Saying goodbye to Monica was a little sad, but we will see each other again in a few weeks.
Lunch
During my travels home, I ate some coconut yogurt with blueberries and granola.
A couple of Ā hard-boiledĀ eggs.
And a lot of chocolate for lunch.

I love freshly pressed juice. Drinking a brightly-colored, nutrient-rich glass of it instantly gives me a natural pick-me-up.
With that said, here’s a delicious juice recipe that will give you energy and make you feel a little bit healthier, starting with your very first sip!

Love your manicure! That pink is so awesome. Looks like an awesome trip, I’m now craving a green juice.
I also need to work on being more grateful for what my body can do and less angry with it. I definitely believe positive thinking is healing but it’s so much easier to say than do!!
Ps is that your purse behind the green juice? I love it!!
That’s not my purse, but it’s super cute, right??
I love twitter and Pinterest!
I spotted you and Monica yesterday and wanted to come over and introduce myself – too bad you guys had to leave. Hopefully I will catch you both another time….I like Pinterest and Facebook the best (probably because I use it most in my personal life in addition to my blog). I really need to get on the twitter bandwagon and I am slowly taking a liking to Instagram. It is amazing how technology has taken off in the last few years. I swear every day makes the day before outdated lol.
I love reading about your adventures to all the blogging events! I just tried the new juices at Starbucks myself this week and they are not that bad. There is still nothing like making your own though! I’d have to say for social media, it is a tie between Instagram and Pinterest. I am on Twitter but I prefer Facebook over it.
Thank you for sharing what Sarah Lucero said about thanking your body. I recently started back at the gym after being away for 16 years…god, that sounds like SO long! And it IS so long! I wasn’t inactive all that time, but I wasn’t as active as I should have been. Starting up again at 55 isn’t easy but it is necessary and I’m loving it! Bad knee, finding out the treadmill isn’t my friend. Elliptical is ok, bike, too. Doing yoga and swimming.
Instagram!
Twitter for sure!
I came so close to buying that same green juice at Starbucks this morning, but was not sure about the ingredients — are there any preservatives / added ingredients besides the veggies and orange juice?
Oooh between twitter and pinterest it’s hard to choose!!! Love the pic of everyone on their phones, great shot!
Your trip to NYC sounds like it was fun and informative!
Right now I’m really into Pinterest for recipe inspirations (just Pinned your juice!),
But recently signed up for Twitter and am slowly learning how to use!
A run in Central Park to start the day sounds fantastic! Sounds like a fun event!
I’m so addicted to Pinterest, especially for recipe ideas! It’s amazing what kind of great things you can find!
I LOVE twitter (@coffeeckecardio) but Instagram is quickly becoming my favorite (coffeecakeandcardio)
Totally with ya on Instagram!
I have never used Twitter, I am a little bit ashamed to say, but I do love Instagram. Looks like such a fun time š
I love Twitter because I think it’s the most interactive social media platform but I love the photos on Instagram and Pinterest!
I don’t know if I have a favorite social media platform yet. I’m still new to all of it and it’s so confusing! I’m definitely most active on Twitter, though. I want to get better at using Instagram!
I tried a few bottled juices and wasn’t really a huge fan. I’ve never made my own juices, but I want to give it a shot!
I love Twitter. I follow fitness and health accounts, also a great form of motivation when you get to see everyone else out running, lifting, working out! š
@Liz: (@Justaskinnybtch)
Agreed! š
I am still really new to social media but I really like both Instagram and twitter. Sometimes twitter can be flooded with stuff I don’t care to read about so the fun pictures of Instagram are always welcome.
That looks like such a fun event! I’d love to meet the editor in chief of Fitness or another of my fav magazines!
I’ve just recently realized Starbucks offers some pretty good options for meals and snacks. I’m going to have to start hitting them up when I travel! Looks like you had a fun trip!

I like FB & IG…and Pinterest can be fun too!
Pinterest is my all time favorite, followed by instagram, followed by twitter.
So cool you got to see Betty Wong in person! I also read her editor’s letter each month. She seems great
The Evolution juices at S-Bux are so good! I was recently in Seattle and discovered that Evolution has a storefront there where they sell fresh pressed juices, smoothies, and REALLY delicious salads and soups. Just a tip in case you ever find yourself there š I hope they start expanding!
Oooh, nice! I’ll keep a lookout next time I’m in Seattle!
I want a juicer in a bad way. I’m thinking it will be my first purchase once we move into our new house!
I do live with fire… don’t ask unless you want to know how much.
I love the evolution juices too, especially since I don’t have my own juicer yet they are my go to!
Twitter. Its so easy to get news. I follow a lot of sports “insiders” so around trade deadlines twitter is super fun. š I am a dork… I know.
Sara š
I am in love with Instagram! Twitter doesn’t have enough pictures for me :).
I am a twitter fanatic. I dont know what it is but I just love makin tweets.

I am on the pressed Juicery 3 day cleanse right now, and I am learning to love juice (especially green) even more than I already did! Glad you had such a great time š
What a fun experience! You are so lucky to be able to be involved in so many great opportunities :).
i’m totally addicted to instagram!!!
Addicted to instagram. As a mom of three, I can snap a pic, and get my point across without saying anything at all? That never happens at home;)
I love instagram and pinterest!
What a great event that you got to be apart of and attend! It looks like you had a great time!
Looks like a great time! What do you think of the juice? Worth ordering it?

The sight of all those shoes made my heart skip a beat–I LOVE shopping for running shoes. All of those Reeboks look so pretty and fun!
My favorite form of social media these days is probably Instagram. I check it ALL the time!
I love love love some instagram š
Sounds like a lovely day – and I am a big fan of the green juices from Starbucks (there are two different ones) for when I need a little pick me up!
Wow, it looks like you are having such a great time! I am so shocked you can eat cheese/dairy w/ your Crohn’s, it would send my GI into the worst place ever!!!!
I actually don’t have Crohn’s. I have Ulcerative Colitis. Thankfully, dairy has never been an issue for me! š
I can totally relate to being pissed off at your body. I’ve had severe IBS for five years and I was just really angry for a long time, especially because I was so embarrassed and didn’t want to tell anyone. I finally realized I was treating my body like crap, so how could I expect to feel any better? Once I started treating my body better, I felt a lot better. I’m sure my IBS always be around to some degree, but I’ve learned to listen to my body and try to work with it, not against it.
I love Pinterest! SO perfect for planning my future wedding š an event like that seems like so much fun!
I love reading Betty’s Editor’s Note too. Looks like you guys are along the High Line! Makes me miss Manhattan!
Facebook is my favorite but I’ve been using Twitter a lot more recently
I’m not on instagram yet but, everyone is talking about it. Time to sign up :-).
DailyMile is my favorite! I wish they had a list function similar to twitter though.
