Good morning! Happy Thursday!

Breakfast

I started yesterday morning with a glass of green juice. Most mornings, I make a big batch that I share with Mal. (He loves fresh juice too!) I’ve been experimenting with all sorts of fresh produce lately (FYI: mustard greens are super spicy – not a fan), but my favorite go-to “recipe” is as follows:

  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 apple
  • 6-8 stalks of celery
  • 3-4 carrots
  • 1/2 lemon (peel and all)
  • a ton of fresh ginger
  • a crapton of greens (spinach, collards, kale)

This amount typically makes enough to split with Mal. If it doesn’t for some reason, I’ll add another half of a cucumber, apple, or orange (something juicy) for more liquid action. It ends up being slightly sweet with a little zing from the ginger and lemon. Mal just thinks it tastes “fresh.”

After I drank my juice, I toasted up a gluten-free English muffin and added sunflower butter and sliced banana to it.

Workout

After breakfast, I met a couple of CrossFit friends for a run, which, surprisingly, was my first outdoor run of 2013. Isn’t that crazy?! Remember when I use to run all the time?

Oh, yea, then CrossFit happened.

I_love_CrossFit_

I kind of love CrossFit.

It’s crazy to think that I use to run for 4+ hours without stopping. I can’t even imagine running for half that time now! I seriously have no idea how I used to run so much.

Anyway, my run with Kim and Katie yesterday morning was chilly, but really nice. And being outside, hitting the pavement with friends, reminded me just how much I enjoy running.

I always thought I was a “cat runner,” but I now realize I’m definitely a “dog runner.” For me, running alone is only fun every once in awhile (when I want to sort through my thoughts and be all introspective and stuff), and I’d much rather run with other people. I guess it’s the people that made me fall in love with running in the first place.

Remember my Team In Training days?

And traveling to all sorts of races to run with friends?

And New York City to train for the marathon? How could you forget all of those trips!? Theodora should have started charging me rent.

And, of course, we can’t forget Team Off Balance? Those were the best 24 hours of my running life!

As you can see, the people are what made me love running so much, and I guess not having races on my calendar and plans with friends (and, ok, maybe CrossFit-ing my butt off) made me fall out of love with it for a little while. But, now that I have some CrossFit friends to run with and a couple of races on my calendar, I see myself getting my run on a lot more often.
