Hi, guys! Happy Tuesday!
After our weekend of home improvement projects, Mal and I spent today getting our life back in orderββrunning errands, cleaning and organizing the house, etc. But, first, we got our WOD on at CrossFit.
Workout
Today’s WOD was a good one!
Running and air squats probably don’t sound too tough, but let me tell you, my quads were burning like crazy during this workout.Β Plus, IΒ tried to keep up with a speedy gal in class, so I was really pushing myself today. I finished in 11:41.
Snack
After CrossFit, I came home and made a protein shake with vanilla fitmixer protein powder (mmmβΒ¦ tastes like vanilla cake), iced coffee, and almond milk.
Lunch
A little while later, I made lunch, which was pretty much a repeat of last night’s Tuna & White Bean Salad, but I added some roasted red pepper hummus to the mix.
After lunch, Mal and I headed out to do some errands, which started with a quick stop at Marylou’s for an afternoon pick-me-up.
Mal apparently needed a serious pick-me-up because he ordered a large Girl Scout Cookie iced coffee (tastes like Thin Mints). I went with a small Butterfinger iced coffee, which tasted more like caramel and chocolate than a Butterfinger, but it was close enoughβΒ¦ and incredible.Β
Our next stop was at AT&T to potentially cancel our cell phone service since it sucks so hard. Mal and I can’t even make calls from inside our house anymore. (We never had great service, but now it’s terrible!) We usually end up standing in the front yard while we talk on the phone. Ah, yea, this needs to change ASAP.
We also stopped at Marshall’s to buy a few accessories for our new bathroom and kitchen.
FYI: The big reveal will happen in a few days because Mal now wants to paint the bathroom. Oooh, it never ends!
After doing all of our errands,Β Mal and IΒ finally went to the park so the pug could run around. We planned to go to our usual dog park, but we ended up just minutes away from Wompatuck State Park, so we went there this time.
Oh, I think that’s Murphy’s special spot!
Murphy was pug putty in Mal’s hands! Haha!
Snack
After the park, we came home and then I made myself an afternoon snack, which was vanilla Greek yogurt mixed with cashew butter and chia seeds. It was a surprisingly awesome combo.
Once I finished eating my snack, Mal and I went on an organizing and cleaning spree. Check it out!
A little olive oilβΒ¦
We got so much accomplished and it feels awesome! Hooray!
Snack
While we worked, I ate a bunch of Pretzel Crisps.
Off to make dinner! Have a nice night, friends!
Question of the Day
How many cookbooks do you own? What percentage of them do you actually use on a regular basis?
My answer: I had 41 cookbooks (now 20). I use maybe 10% of them on a regular basis. I’m all about using the Internet to find recipes.

Whenever I’m near a Marshalls, I end up spending 2+ hours there. LOVE THAT STORE.
That WOD does look tough, although I say that about any running WOD especially if it’s 400M and over! Need to get better with running! Love the clean kitchen!
You are really rocking out the home improvement projects! I own about 5 cookbooks and use… zero. Recipes intimidate me if there are more than like 6 ingredients.
Oh man, I probably own 20 cookbooks and use them….never? I usually find recipes online. It’s so much faster to search Google than my cookbooks, and I can read reviews/tips in comments and stuff. I feel kind of guilty, especially because I have a few REALLY nice ones that were gifts or splurges, but I just never crack ’em.
I have a ton of cookbooks but rarely use them! I just like flipping through them for good ideas and inspiration!

I actually don’t own more than like 5 cookbooks but hardly ever use them! I either create as I go or use online recipes, such as your own!!
Can’t wait for the big reveal!
PS can you pleeeeeeease tell Mary Lou’s they need to expand…to Texas π I want that thin mint coffee now
@Climbing Magnolias: I’m with you. I’d love one in DC, San Antonio, and Des Moines. Then I’d be set.
Nice work! I hope this motivates me to clean. You know, I never use cookbooks any more. I have my favorite recipes saved on my computer, and I usually look for new recipes online. This horrifies my grandmother, but it works for me. π
Love the organization! They say every minute spent on organizing saves 1 hour down the road π
Wow, big day! I’m an organization freak and love checking off house projects. One day I will have to try Mary Lou’s…
mm put the same hummus in my salad today! Hummus in salad is my jam, soo good! I need to find a coffee shop near me that has these fantastic flavors, I would love thin mint flavored coffee! I have about 10 cookbooks and hardly use them except for one that consists of recipes I have printed or ripped out from magazines.
I never use cookbooks anymore. I always look online. after going through all my books last summer, I’m down to 10 cookbooks. some I kept for sentimental reasons and some I’ll still use. π
I love getting stuff done like that! I always feel so accomplished after. Hmm… I have a bunch of cookbooks for somebody who’s only 20. Maybe 25? And I don’t use any of them ever haha (besides the first week or two after getting them). Recently, I looked through a couple of them to see if I could find something from them to make, but I wasn’t that impressed. I find most of my recipes from blogs! Such a better resource and TOTALLY FREE π
I own like 15 cookbooks, but only use a handful of them. Probably would be useful to sell them!
I have SO many cookbooks — I don’t know the number but I know that there’s “too many” π And seeing you make all these awesome changes in your house is making me want to get summer cleaning my own space. I’m hoping to move in September into a new apartment so I guess I’ll have even MORE motivation to get organized when that rolls around.
I’ve learned that when it comes to a crossfit workout, if you think “This shouldn’t be too bad.” it’s probably going to kick your butt. π
Haha! Yep, the seemingly “easy” WODs are always the hardest!
Hey Tina, I have never tried olive oil on stainless steel but baby oil works AMAZING. Just a tiny dab and it makes stainless steel look totally new.
Nice! I will try that. Definitely a cheaper option! π
I own lots of cookbooks I never use. I’m like you and usually go to the Internet to find recipes. I do love looking at the cookbooks from time to time and I love my Cooking Light magazine.
I have about 25 cookbooks and rarely use them. I too use the internet for most of my recipes.
I can’t wait to try this WOD–it looks like such a good workout!!
omg I own so many haha but I think I only look at once actually haha now that I think of it
I used to be obsessed with collecting cookbooks… But I never really used them. I realized I really just read them for inspiration and pleasure and found myself more interested on super current recipes found online or in magazines.
So I have been printing out recipes and collecting magazine recipes and I compile them in a homemade cookbook π I also use Pinterest a lot and have boards devoted to recipes. Though I don’t collect standard cookbooks anymore I LOVE vintage cookbooks… They are so interesting and some are hilarious! They are a really interesting window into history:D
Ive never thought to mix chia seeds OR nut butter into my greek yogurt, but what an AMAZING idea!! trying that tomorrow!
i own only 6 cookbooks, and I actually use all of them but one, which was a family heirloom of my grandmothers.
Have you guys tried an AT&T microcell? They gave us one for free when we complained about our service (no purchase fee or monthly fee).
That’s our next step. AT&T said they’d charge us $200 for one, but we’re going to try to get it for free or switch to Verizon.
I definitely own more cookbooks than I use, but sometimes just knowing I have them to reference when needed makes me happy π
Everytime you post about MaryLou’s all I can think about is how I really want to try it!!! Girl Scout Cookie coffee sounds like heaven!
Is this your first time trying the FitMixer protein powder? It is SO good! And if you haven’t tried it yet, their Amino is AMAZING! I swear I’ve never had anything power me through a workout quite like that stuff!
I’ve had it a bunch of times in the past. It’s so delicious!
@Tina: @Tina:
I LOVE verizon! I live in Ohio, so I can’t help you compare in the Boston area, but where I’m at AT&T is absolutely terrible. (as are the other carriers). I’ve had Verizon for 7 years & never have had any trouble with reception & rarely have a dropped call. I know some people complain about V (probably AT&T lovers π ), but I’ll be sticking with them!
Olive oil for stainless steel? Never knew that. Going to try it right now!
I have a decent cookbook collection…maybe 20 or so? Decent considering I’m 22. π
P.S. Want to come organize my cupboards when I move in a month? One of the things I’m not looking forward too, lol.
We also desperately need to go through our cookbooks. We actually just relocated them the other day to a different spot in the house and as i moved the pile I realized how few we actually use!
I love a good workout to kick off the day on a productive, happy note π I need to go through all my stuff asap…..this makes me want to do that! hah.
I have about 10 cookbooks and use 1, The Best of the Best, for 1 recipe… I have a feeling I’ll be parting with some when I move this fall!
Murphy is so adorable. LOL And we used to have Sprint because we lived under a tower, but we didn’t get any service at all. It totally skipped out house. I’ve never heard my dad cuss before, but on the phone with Sprint…yikes!
I almost never use cookbooks anymore. It’s just so easy to look recipes up online, plus I follow so many foodie blogs, and they all have such great recipes.
I had no idea olive oil could do that… I’m honestly impressed!
Wompatuck!!! I
Oooh that Crossfit workout sounds surprisingly hard! I always thought 400m was the hardest sprint race in HS.
I couldn’t tell you how many cookbooks I have…a lot! I’ve collected them for probably about 10 years & have definitely gotten rid of some over the years – I’ll purge every couple years or so, but I still have a lot. I have plenty that don’t get used very often, but aren’t ones I’m willing to part with. I also keep a filing tray with internet recipes I’ve printed. The tray has file folders for categories – Breakfast, Main Dishes, Sides/Vegetables and Baking. I go through & purge those every so often as well because I find that I’ll print a lot that I think I’ll make & never try. So, I’ll clean out ones I haven’t made & probably never will, ones that weren’t that great and also find ones I forgot to ever try! π
I never use recipe books- blogs/apps/sites are my go-tos!
Oh man. I never ever use cookbooks but I probably have 10. I use the internet. I need to try the olive oil trick again. Our new house has stainless appliances, and I haven’t quite mastered the art of cleaning them!
Random question…cashew butter, how does it rate?
I get in those moods as well, running around like a mad woman, cleaning everything I can get my hands on. Feels AHmazing after!
I have more cookbooks than I can put in my house, lets put it that way. I might as well have a whole storage unit dedicated to them.
π
Hi Tina,
Don’t you think Mal looks like Daniel Craig in his photo with Murphy?
Kind regards,
Linda.
Wow looks like an awesome afternoon! That pic of the two differently sized coffees together is cute (does it speak to my personality that I find coffee cute? And delicious!)
Isn’t that funny about cookbooks? I know my parents have at least 20 cookbooks and they use almost none. We have maybe two or three that we use regularly or are nice to have around so about the same statistics as yours. My boyfriend is already amassing a huge stack of cookbooks in his senior year of college and he rarely uses them. Even if he does, he doesn’t follow the recipe anyway!
Haha I have such a cookbook problem too! I keep on buying them, yet 90% of the time I use the internet to get recipes! And don’t even get me started on all the cooking magazines I buy every month and barely use. π
Nothing better then getting organized around the house! I feel like my cookbooks are dusty since I usually just go to my laptop for recipes!!!
Good Morning~ Do you mind me asking a couple of questions on Crossfit? I need to get out of my running rut and try it! I am so used to running and know it works for me. Have you been able to maintain your weight fine with doing more Crossfit? I know muscle weighs more that fat so manybe your are actually smaller with Crossfit? You look great!! Do you think you eat as much doing Crossfit as running?
Sorry for all the questions~
Heather
Hi Heather! Thanks for the CrossFit questions. I’m happy to help! π I weigh the exact same now as I did when I started CrossFit back in December, but none of my clothes fit, so I’ve definitely lost fat and gained muscle. As far as eating, I eat a lot in general, but not nearly as much as when I was marathon training. I also eat a more balanced diet nowadays, so I think I make better food choices.
Do you think you burn the same amount of calories as running? Do you think you eat as many calories as u did when running?
Thank you!!
I own way too many (like 45), but will be paring them down after we sort and sell a bunch of stuff at our garage sale in September. Can’t wait to unload!
Oh gosh, look at that Murphy! Don’t let Mal fool you: that little Murphy face has Mal wrapped around his paw!
Wow, butterfinger iced coffee sounds amazing! I own only 10 cookbooks, but still rarely use them.
Everytime I read about your Marylou visits I seriously get so jealous. All your drinks always sound amazing! I wonder if they ship coffee overseas??? π Cannot wait for the final reveal of all your home improvements. I’m sure everything has, and well since he wants to do more paint.. will turn out beautiful!!
I haven’t been cooking for all that long (high school my mom and sister did most of the cooking, and in college there were plenty of on campus options) but now I get every recipe off of the internet! It really is amazing how much information is out there on any single specific item you want to look at. And Pinterest is my new obsession! But there’s nothing like looking through your mother’s recipe collection of old hand-written note cards passed down from her mother, and her mother before her. Her best recipe- banana bread with cinnamon sugar topping. Mmm
Love that WOD, looks so easy to do at home but not easy at the same time π love all of your organization! It’s inspiring me to do the same π
