Endless Summer

My pug calendar says it’s October 10th, but Mother Nature seems to think otherwise. For the past several days, it’s felt like legit summer here with temperatures in the 80s and plenty of sunshine. I love it so much. No complaints here.

Once the sun started to set this evening, it made for some fabulous running weather. I left my Garmin at home, threw on some tunes on my iPhone, and set out for 5 miles. It was glorious.

Midway through my run, I bumped into my favorite two guys on a walk.

They’re so cute.

After my run for some reason, I still had plenty of energy to burn, so I acted like a freak on our back porch. I guess running outside in the beautiful October weather just really psyched me up. (Or maybe I was still drunk from Saturday night?)

While I stretched and showered, Mal fired up the grill and started to make dinner. Tonight’s meal was a very ‘manly’ salad made with steak, bacon, potatoes, and a homemade blue cheese dressing.

The recipe for Steak Salad with Bacon, Crispy Potatoes, and Blue Cheese Dressing is from Real Simple, and it tasted awesome. (FYI: The potatoes are cooked in bacon fat. Mmm, yes.) Mal cooked one hell of a meal tonight!

Dessert is cooking in the oven right now: apple crisp made from the apples that Mal and I picked this weekend. Yum!

Have a nice night, friends! I’m off to catch up with my DVR. It’s 94% full!

  1. mmmmm dinner looks superb and is right up my ally. I have been in love with this little indian summer we are experiencing as well. Trying to soak every ray of sun in before the vermont winter hits me hard!

  2. Please send some of that weather to Portland, OR! We had summer but then it got drizzly and gray. I’m not ready for the endless gray winter! I want my beautiful Portland fall!

  3. It’s been gorgeous here too! Gotta take advantage of these Indian summers. Haha, that is one manly meal but looks oh so good!
So I was just looking online today for tickets to see one of my favorite bands, The Civil Wars and I saw they are coming to Boston at the end of the month. I immediately thought of you because I was so close to just going for it. I’ve always wanted to go to Boston and what a better reason. 🙂

  4. Haha I love when you still have energy to burn after a run, and just go crazy! So much fun 🙂

Mmm that dinner looks delicious – bacon and blue cheese is such a great combo!

  5. Hahaa…I did the same thing after I ran in the gym tonight (although, I only did 4 miles). The walk to our (my boyfriend and mine) car in the parking lot turned into a dork dance. It’s good to get some silly out…no matter where you are 🙂

  6. Your funny! Your pictures made me chuckle! Wish here in CA, we had 80 degree weather. It rained here and it 65 out, I had to do my workout inside! Blah! I love your Rhode Island food reviews on the other post, makes me want to go there for pizza, beer and cupcakes for dessert.

  7. it sounds like you had one of those amazingly perfect days 🙂 simple, happy, spent with your immediate family. beautiful! I think that’s a salad I could get my man to eat too….

  8. I think its warmer up north than it is down here in NC right now!. OMG, that salad looks absolutely amazing. My husband doesn’t like Blue Cheese, but he could use a different dressing….go Mal!!

  9. Endless summer–agreed! The weather here was chilly/rainy last week, but the last couple of days have seriously felt like summer again! My friends and I went apple picking & hiking, and were sweating on both trips from the sun…what is going on, October??

  10. Those pictures are hilarious!!!

And, potatoes cooked in bacon fat? That sounds awesome! Cooking in bacon fat was probably the worst discovery my fiancé and I made this year. Popcorn cooked in bacon fat? Eggs fried in bacon fat? Uh oh!

  11. This will probably be regarded as a “troll-y” comment, but oh well, I like to make my opinions known:

I find it really sad that it’s 2011, and several HLB are still perpetuating the idea that certain foods are somehow more “manly” than other foods. It’s meat, potatoes, and cheese – that’s three food groups that in theory, both men and women need.

I really wish we could move past labelling food “manly” vs “girly” – I’ve never heard of “womanly” food although that would be more appropriate opposite “manly.” These are stereotypes.

Dietary preferences should have little to do with socially constructed gender identities.

  12. YUM that salad looked satisfying! And because I love all of your inspirational running posts, although far from being a runner myself (I’m a zumba/ballet/jazz dance kinda girl) I signed up for my first 5K this weekend in Seoul, S. Korea! Even if I have to huff and puff my way to the finish line, I figured it’d be a great way to see more of the city! Thanks for always pushing me to get out there and be active!
