It’s driveway day! Yay!! The pavers arrived bright and early this morning to get started on our driveway.
So long rocks and roots! Remember how bad they looked?
Ready to pave!
Of course, Murphy assumed his role as “supervisor” for the project. He hasn’t left his post on the sun porch since 8:00 AM this morning.
Oh my gosh, I am so excited about this driveway. I seriously can’t wait to see the final product in just a couple of hours. These guys are cruising right along with it!
It’s funny how excited I am about this project. If you told me 10 years ago I’d be this pumped for a new driveway, I would have thought you were crazy. At 22 years old, I would’ve went nuts about a sale at J.Crew or free shots at a bar (ok, I still get pretty psyched about those things), but now driveways, new bedding, and coconut aminos make me excited. Haha! Oooh, how things have changed!
Breakfast
This morning’s breakfast was a two-ingredient pancake with peanut butter spread on top and a glass of Dandy Blend with almond milk.
Lunch
Around 11:00, my stomach started to grumble, so I threw together an early lunch. In the mix: TJ’s turkey meatballs, Sweet Potato Slices, sautéed spinach, avocado, and Curry Spice Blend. Delish! So many favorites!
Question of the Day
Ten years ago, what made you excited? What makes you excited today?

10 years ago going to the bar and getting trashed got me excited. I still like to socialize, but I am a mom now, so my priorities have definitely changed!!! Today, I get excited about new bed sheets, a snow day from school (I am a teacher!), hearing from friends, and eating at a nice restaurant.
Haha i have started to get excited about house things like that too. Can’t wait to see it complete!
Yay for driveway day!
Wow, I have to reach back on that one. 10 years ago we took my friend on a 3 week trip to Hawaii so I was all about planning every minute detail of the vacation. 10 years later, we no longer travel with friends.
These days a sale at Sur La Table or a road trip can get me pretty pumped up.
Ok, it was longer than 10 years ago but I used to get excited about Mug Night at the bar and the Kroger (grocery store) salad bar. Now I get excited about triple coupons and BOGO offers. I was (in our last house) excited about getting our fence stained. Until they F!@#$#$%^Y it up royally and it looked awful.
The Kidless Kronicles
10 years ago I was 14 (weird!) so I was probably excited about…hmm I actually don’t know. Now I get excited about spending time my family, wiener dogs, and reading!
10 years ago, I was 13 (!!). Shopping made me excited 🙂
Today, I get excited about thrusters and burpees 😉
what makes me excited today? new cleaning products and when avocados go on sale at the supermarket. haha.
YES! Avocados on sale make me excited as well! 🙂
As a 22-year-old, a sale at JCrew does make me excited! (My body can’t handle shots anymore, ha!) But shopping for furniture and groceries also makes me happy, so I’m kind of a grown-up, right? 😉
Have you thought about using Chia Seeds to curb cravings? Also Digestive Health benefit.
Can’t wait to see it either!
10 years ago I got excited about cute boys asking me out, shopping sprees with my sisters, and getting big parts to dance in (I was a ballet dancer). Now, 10 years later, I get excited about hot dates with my husband, teaching fitness classes I love, and reading a great book. 🙂
Ten years ago I was only 12 years old so what made me excited was… going to the Nsync concert and getting to wear sparkly lipgloss to school 😉 I am kind of an old soul though and what makes me excited now are things like perfect fall running weather, reading a good book, a massage, and the smell of something baking in the oven (that makes me sound like a grandma ;))
It’s amazing how our interests change. I got super excited when I bought my new vacuum cleaner >.<
Haha! Me too!
Ten years ago I was 14…. I loved going out of town with friends. There wasn’t a whole lot to do in my hometown so road trips were the best! I am much more of a home body now. A night in with a movie and some ice cream is pretty much the best thing ever!
TJs meatballs are so good and tender but they have some weird additives 🙁
We just got a fence for our backyard and I was like a kid on Christmas when I saw the finished product. Times sure have changed!
Being honest…going out to the bar and drinking! haha. Now, a low-key night at home with my husband and kitty!
Probably getting new clothes or when my mom let me buy yet another acne-clearing product (I was 14, haha).
It really is amazing how things change in ten years. I too get excited about home projects. Breakfast looks great as usual! I eat that pancake every other day haha 🙂
It’s pretty funny how the things that made me excited ten years ago don’t even faze me anymore. Crazy how much opinions and preferences change over the years. Congrats on getting the driveway paved! 🙂
Wow that’s way more work than I would have imagined! Let me see, 10 years about I was 15 and in my freshman year of high school… lol I don’t know, boys? Going to the movies with friends? Someone getting their learners permit? haha
OH geez, at 15?? Getting to drive with my learners permit, being in high school, talking to a crush…
These days? Being able to wake up without an alarm, a starbucks freebie, and clean sheets. hahah
Hmm haha ten years ago a toy sale at target probably would have been pretty exciting for me!! Now it’s more like vacations and things of that nature. Just found your blog- love it!!
10 years ago, I would have been 16…. so, I’m pretty sure my car and my cell phone made me the most excited… and I had a huge crush on my now husband, so my 2nd period class got me pretty excited because we had it together!! Ha! 🙂
How do you keep your avacodos from spoiling when you only use a portion of it at each meal? Every time I buy an avacado, I use 1/4 – then, when I go back to use it again for another meal, it’s all brown and yuck. Advice please!
I was thinking last night about how my “life plans” have changed over the years. I guess I really am growing up.
Ten years ago I was excited about not vomiting after a night of drinking. Now I’m excited about grocery shopping and completing small home projects (like replacing the shower curtain rod all by myself!).
A freshly paved driveway IS exciting! I’m sort of weird, though. I LOVE the smell of it! Must be the tar I like? Smooth driveways are the best. Congrats!
Hmm at 17 I was excited about finally being able to give blood, finishing high school, and boy bands. At 27 I’m excited about new hardware for my kitchen cabinets, buying a plant for my front porch, and meal planning! Haha!
Fridays, bus ride to friends house.
dancing in the living room.
scary movies and sleeping bags.
HA! I love your excitement over this and Murphy’s supervisory skills – he’s a pro! 😉
10 years ago I was definitely excited about getting my permit and learning to drive. Now my cousin is about to get her driver’s license and I just feel old…ha!
10 years ago, I got excited by small kitchen appliances and gadgets. Now, I STILL get excited by small kitchen appliances and gadgets. I’m a geek!
Great question of the day! 10 years ago, I was excited for my independence, getting my license and being able to go wherever I wanted whenever I wanted. Running errands is not so exciting anymore, so today, I’m more excited about vacations and weekend getaways, especially if I don’t have to drive!
Let’s see…ten years ago, I would’ve been seventeen, and pretty much everything excited me back then. There was so much of the world to explore. I’ve gone to college, and that’s about it. This real life stuff kind of sucks sometimes.
Ten years ago I was a freshman in high school so probably right about this time I would be super excited if a boy asked me to the homecoming dance. Now I have a productive work week and can enjoy a relaxing happy hour with friends haha.
10 years ago I got excited about boys, and friday night football games. Ten years later ia m getting excited about following my dreams and making them reality….boys still excite me though 🙂
Just a heads up about those TJ’s turkey meatballs. Last time I looked at them they were made out of mechanically separated turkey which is SO ick. Do an google image search to see what I mean.
At the age of 12/13?
Umm…The Simpsons would have made me excited. And ice cream. And going to the mall/movie theatre.
Now: ice cream still gets me excited. But so does the Walking Dead. and the gym. and sweet potatoes. and candy corn.
Hmm… 10 years ago I was mostly just excited to be getting my braces off I think. I got a new vacuum a few weeks ago though and was PSYCHED. I also got really excited this week because I got a new garbage disposal. Riveting, I know!!
10 years ago I was 17 and the things that excited me then were being asked out by the cute boy in school or cheer leading competitions. Now, 10 years later, things that excite me are sales at the grocery store (especially if I coupons) and getting new kitchen gadgets (like the keurig I got on the weekend)
Tina- can you share the recipe for curried sweet potato coins? Do you just use the spice blend with oil or are there other ingredients as well?
thanks!
For this meal, I just did my own thing with the 5 spices– a little of this, a little of that. The Sweet Potato Coins recipe is from the Practical Paleo cookbook, but I will ask Diane (the author) if I can share it on CNC!
Okay, so I’m wondering…..nutritional facts on your 2 ingredient pancakes?
Ten years ago I got excited when I bought a new pair of boots, and still do, there is nothing like new shoes! Must run in the family, when my neice was three she wanted shoes for Christmas! I do get excited about kitchenware and gagets now. I just got a new convection oven, and I am super excited.
Good question! 10 years ago I was 16, so I think I was most excited about getting my driver’s license and the new Justin Timberlake cd. The most excited I have been in a while is when I splurged on a new vacuum that actually picked up dog hair .. wow haha.
I just love love Murphy !
Ten years ago I was 14…I was in the throws of an eating disorder so not a whole lot! I think I somehow bypassed or condensed my 20’s in to my late teens! A new driveway would make me super excited as would anything domestic or food (particularly nut butter) related!
N’Sync and BSB mademe excited 10 years ago. Oh brother! LOL
A new driveway is exciting! Ten years ago a grown up night out with hubby and no kids was something to be excited about.
Congrats on your new driveway! It’s silly to think about how excited we get over stuff, like a new driveway or having a clean house- definitely things I was not excited about 10 years ago 😛 10 years ago [ripe old age of 13] I would have been excited if we won a basketball game or I got invited to a birthday party haha!
For the record, I’ve made 2 of your two ingredient pancakes in 24hrs, with great success…the tips helped! Yum!
10 years ago? I’d finally figured out who I was (in grad school), but had no idea what career I wanted. It made me happy in those days to pay less than 500 bucks for rent. Now, I’m starting to look into home ownership! Yikes!
Yay! I love those things! So delish with nut butter! 🙂
Hi tina,
Given your focus on real food and your love of pumpkin lattes, smoothies, etc, i thought you should see this: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/22/fall-coffee-drinks-which-is-best_n_1998827.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopular#slide=more258065
It was eye opening for me!
Thanks for the link!
@Tina: You’re welcome. If there is anything healthier than these pumpkin syrups that you know of, I would love to know about them, or know about ways to use real pumpkin in yummy drinks!
You can mix canned pumpkin, pumpkin pie spice, and vanilla extract into coffee drinks at home! 🙂
@Tina: Thanks! Great ideas- need to look for pumpkin pie spice! 🙂
I love that you eat all these random combinations…I do the same, and it’s so good!
