Good morning and happy Monday!

I’m a little behind on blogging about Thanksgiving, but, hey, it’s better late than never, right? We had a great Thanksgiving, which included a Thanksgiving Eve celebration at our neighbors’ house. Pumpkin martini? Yes, please! I had a great time, but, let’s just say, I should have stopped at one!

The next morning, I met the lovely ladies of KFIT for the 23rd Annual Dreamcatcher Classic Road Race, which includes both a 2- and 5-mile option.

Last year, Mal and I ran the 2-miler with Quinn, which was such a fun experience. Baby’s first road race! I ran the 5-miler in 2012 with a time of 40:36 (8:07), which I immediately thought was quite speedy for me. I mean, holy hell, I was fast back then! I could never run 5 miles at that pace now. But, then, I decided to think a little more positively about it. Plus, I figured: What the heck? I might as well TRY to beat it. I mean, who cares that I drank two pumpkin martinis and two glasses of wine the night before? Maybe all of that extra sugar will give me a boost?! (Uh, it definitely didn’t, but I decided to try my hardest and give it my all!)

The first mile of the race was pretty crowded, but it eventually thinned out, and I got into a groove. I played my Boston Marathon Playlist and just kept pushing at a “comfortably hard” pace. I didn’t feel great (definitely dehydrated), but I knew it was a short race and, as long as I could pace myself for the first 4 miles, I’d be fine finishing strong. (The app I use to track my runs is RunKeeper.)

My plan worked for the most part, and I kept a consistent pace and then picked it up at the end… although, it definitely wasn’t my strongest finish. I was SO ready for the race to be over! Just look at my face! So much pain!

I finished in 40:50 (8:10), which was just 12 seconds slower than my previous Dreamcatcher time (and much faster than I expected), so I was happy. Post-race, we celebrated at KFIT with mimosas!

After the race, I headed home, quickly showered/got ready, and then drove out to my Grammie’s house for Thanksgiving dinner.

We had a wonderful time catching up with family, eating delicious food, and playing outside!
