I’m an Enneagram 3.

And that means I’m an achiever, so I’m always ‘doing’. In addition, I have a chronic autoimmune disease (ulcerative colitis), and if you or someone you know has one as well, then you know how important ‘doing’ is to a lot of us. During the recent Real Talk Summit, it seemed like a common trait we all shared.

During this pandemic, we’ve spent a lot of time at home, so work and personal life have blended together even more than in the past.

Nowadays, I literally tell myself, “Doing nothing is still doing something.”

And repeat it over and over again.

It’s hard to sit still, especially as a mom, wife, and business owner. There’s literally always something to do. But I have to remind myself that sometimes just being, is doing, and that’s more than enough.

This year probably more than ever. And for those of us who struggle with chronic diseases, it is probably the most important thing for our health and wellbeing.

If you’re also struggling with doing #allthethings and have a hard time doing ‘nothing’ remember that resting is an intentional act of healing and restoring.

Doing doesn’t always look like shopping, working, cleaning, organizing, entertaining, coaching, exercising, cooking, or performing. It also looks like sitting, meditating, breathing, stretching, reading, napping, and saying no.

If you’ve been looking for permission to just be, here it is. Doing nothing is still doing something.

When was the last time you did nothing? Or is it long overdue?
