Dinner of Champions

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

It’s been so hot in Boston lately, Mal and I have been waiting to take Murphy for his afternoon walk until much later in the day when it’s a lot cooler outside. Our evenings walks are starting to become my favorite part of the day.

I love walking and talking with Mal. I find it so relaxing.

Look at that cute pug!

Ok, so, this has nothing to do with our walk, but I am loving my BIC Bands lately. They are perfect for keeping my hair off my face in this hot, sticky weather, and, of course, they’re super cute. (They’re also awesome for running and working out, but you already knew that!)

It was much to hot to cook dinner last night, so I ate chips and hummus.

And then some Banana Soft Serve with chocolate chips mixed in. Sometimes, these random combinations are the best types of dinners.

This morning, I woke up early to run, but before I got myself out the door, it started pouring like crazy! Instead of venturing out, I made breakfast, planned out my long run for tomorrow, and started blogging. I guess my workout will have to wait until later.

This morning’s breakfast was an oldie, but goodie: gluten-free toast with almond butter and banana slices.

I’ve always liked almond butter, but I’m recently obsessed with it. In the past couple of days, I’ve been eating random spoonfuls straight from the jar all day long. I just can’t get enough of it! Why does that happen with certain foods?!

Meal4Meal Giveaway

Thanks to everyone who entered yesterday’s Meal4Meal giveaway! Here’s your winner:

I think this program and organization is fantastic, thank you for bringing it to our attention.

I love Fire & Ice and would love to bring my 2 nieces and nephew there (we live in Worcester) for a fun eating experience one weekend after spending a fun day exploring Boston, its always hard taking the three of them out as it gets expensive, so this gift certificate would help with the cost!

Congrats, Sara! Please email me at tina@carrotsncake.com to claim your prize.

Question of the Day

What’s the strangest meal/food combination you’ve ever passed for dinner?

P.S. Pug in a pug costume!

  1. I totally dig random dinners every now and then!! Sometimes we throw some cheese and crackers, olives, ham/turkey, grapes and whatever else is in the fridge on a plate and call it dinner!

I woke up this morning, GOT DRESSED to run, walked outside and it started to POUR. Bummer.

  2. I love walking with my husband too–it is so relaxing!

I just recently received some BIC bands to review and two to giveaway on my blog (I’m posting the giveaway soon for any of your readers that see this). I’m loving them so far too. Do your slip in the back? Mine tended to creep up a bit, but maybe it’s the shape of my head and my slippery hair texture!

  3. mmmm oh how I love homemade hummus. I think your dinner was perfect. I think the weirdest dinner we had was last Halloween. We created a buffet of yummy items with gross names. We had ants on a log, human flesh in blood sauce (turkey meatballs in marinara), and human intestines (baked chicken tenders). For dessert we made “Monster Munch” which consisted of popcorn, crispix, nuts, and caramel. It was very yummy but at the same time really strange to eat all together as a dinner. It was all really fun to make.

  4. One time for dinner I had baked potato chips, mashed potatoes and baked french fries. I felt like a spud afterwards and have never had a combo like that since!

  5. I think I run on strange food combinations.

    But the best..

    by far…

    was boxed wine and cheez-its.

College = the mothership of questionable dinners, fyi.

  6. Haha…I like that gluten-free toast is already part of a meal that’s an “oldie but a goodie”….last night’s mix of leftovers: pulled chicken, baked beans, salad, coleslaw – was pretty random but made for one great-big AWESOME salad!

  7. Thankfully, I’ve graduated to healthier meals, but when I was in university? Nachos with cheese on the side, cereal right from the box or ice cream for dinner. (no wonder I had to join weight watchers!) Have a great day Tina.

  8. I love going for walks with friends or the boyfriend! My strange dinners happen when there is no planned meal, and I just jump from one thing to the other so it doesn’t match. Like making oatmeal and then after having leftover pasta. It’s kinda gross haha.

  9. so why is Teddie PB the best eva? convince me! is it THAT much different from, say, Smucker’s Natural? I really like PB but not sure about buying six jars at once! But I can be convinced…Thanks!

  10. Murphy’s so cute! Since I am usually just making dinner for myself I often put together random combinations that are more like snacks than real meals. It’s a lot easier and it’s usually something pretty healthy. What you had sounds great to me! 🙂

  11. Things I dream of:

    Weather that isn’t 1.6C.

Bananas that don’t cost $3 each.

Then, I will make chocolate chip soft serve 🙂

  12. Ha, I do the same thing with almond butter…but you want to know a secret (warning: this will NOT help the addiction) – scoop 1/2 almond butter on the spoon and then drizzle HONEY on the other half…stick spoon in mouth and experience euphoria. 🙂

  13. I’m answering the question with a breakfast combo instead, and it’s totally unhealthy but true… When my eight mo old daughter has a rough night and I’m dragging in the morning, I either eat chocolate chips straight outta the bag, or a cup of ice cream– with my coffee. That’s right, one cup of cookies ‘n cream ice cream (w/ a little chocolate syrup) and a steaming cup of coffee w/ flavored creamer. Awful, I know. SOOO GOOD though.

  14. I’d have to say the weirdest combo I’ve ever eaten on a regular basis was a plain bagel with plain cream cheese topped with nacho cheese Doritos. We didn’t have many choices for lunch when I was in high school!

  15. You’re not alone in your love of almond butter. Justin’s Maple Almond Nut Butter is ah-mazing, and I eat it every day, usually by the spoonful!

As for weird food combos for dinner, gosh, you name it. Leftovers nights can be pretty strange. Flank steak, spaghetti and cole slaw has to be right up there in the strange plates category!
